- "This Kariyushi Night" by Okinawan band Begin.
Our first wedding dance was to this song, before we know what the Okinawan language lyics meant. Kevin Flanagan from Tucson, Arizona has given us the translation now and thankfully it's the perfect song!
Kevin writes:
"Kariyushi is an Okinawan word that means happy, in the sense of in harmony with nature. I tracked down the meaning from an entry on the Kariyushi Party, which is an Okinawan independence party, so I think it also includes the sense now of, in the Okinawan way. To retain the special flavor, I'm leaving it as is in the translation."
Any mistakes in syncing the words are mine.
Okinawa, Begin, Kariyushi
Life on Okinawa is a beautiful and simple existence and nothing, absolutely nothing, captures the spirit of the island and the people like this band. Oh man... blessed.
This was the first dance song at my wedding! I get emotional every time I listen to it, as memories bring me back to an amazing trip to Okinawa, probably the most beautiful place I have ever been to!

Hey Paul! I remember you gave me a copy of this song when we were both living in Manchester! I'm on holiday in Japan right now and I remembered this song. Some head-scratching and googling later I was chuffed to find it - and then I recognized your name on the channel! The internet is a small place. Gus
Hi Gus, good to hear from you! Christmas in Japan sounds amazing, have you had the traditional KFC? Paul
