I love hearing BASS tone that isn't full of clickety-clank & fret noise!
You can hear pure notes - punchy, thick & present.
Pushing up excessive mids & treble on a bass guitar is like equalizing a piano with a massive bass boost - effectively pushing the instrument completely outside of it's natural timbre.
It's called a BASS for a reason which is well demonstrated in this video! ;-)

Going to be 100% honest here: the playing is amazing, melodically it's really beautiful, uplifting, inspiring and refreshing, so thank you for that! All this being said in my personal opinion in terms of the tone of the bass itself it seems to me like the electronics used for the bass (and i don't know if it's the pick ups or the preamp or the combination of both) are masking the intricacies of his playing, and I think that that's a bit of a shame, it's almost like the tone is a bit sterile, sterile as in too clean and a bit monotonous, and I know for a fact that it's not his playing that causes this, it's the electronics that minimize the audibility of the variations. Let me know if it's just me...
groovegcs there's so many factors attributing to the tone- strings, recording chain etc in addition to the points you mentioned. Keep that in mind...
I would bet some cash he's using the direct out of an Aguilar amp ^^, and if i'm wrong it's a miced Aguilar :D
i think the main problem with the sound in this video is that is recorded with a stereo mic or artificially made into stereo after recording. which results in some kind of phase issues and comb filter effects making the bass sound strange.
