In this practice along we will play octaves in 16th notes in the style of the great Jaco Pastorius, while working many times on the cross string, this way we will become Olympic champions of dance style bass lines!
The Exercise is divided into two parts:
In the first part we will learn how to develop the groove, and in the second one we will play a proper dance style groove.

This is what it’s all about. Hard work, starting slow to eliminate sloppiness, developing that muscle memory and building speed. Ain’t no shortcuts to this! Thanks for making me a better player Federico!
Thanks a lot!
150BPM with Smile! Just respect.
😊Grande Federico pian pianino cresco un po' con i tuoi consigli
Federico, your channel has helped me a lot to progress on my bass playing. Please, keep doing this practice along videos.
Thank you very much Andre!

Thank you Pablo
I've been playing bass for 40 years, The Cure and Siouxsie style, a little slapping (Flea style), but these videos make me realize I still have a lot to learn! I've been practicing for a few days now and I can already hear a difference. I think these are the best practicing videos on UA-cam, thank you!
Thanks Ricky!!!

Proof that if you can play it slowly, you can play it quickly. 😁
Yep
Excellent tutorial, but would be even better if there were some right hand fingerings. 1,2,1,2, or 2, 1,2,1, etc. WOuld help when we get to the very fast tempos switching strings.
Thanks
This might be a bit redundant but have you thought about making the same two octave videos using the E and the D string. I noticed that some of this dexterity transfers over but not entirely.
Too slow ;p we need 200bpm :D Great lesson as always Federico!
Yep :-) lol Thanks!
Federico, sei un fenomeno! Bei video anche, fatti bene ed utili! Grazie.
I have noticed a change in the finger you use in the 5th round, when going for the octave in the 3rd 16 note (rror), apart from the first quarter the rest of the round is with the middle finger on the octave. I wonder if it is on purpose and I should practice that or if instead you think that trying to keep a consistent fingering may be worth practicing, even if a bit uncomfortable. Thank you again.
How many of us can do 150bpm on the octo-groove? Is it something most bass players can achieve?
:-)
Ciao Andrea, grazie mille.
@@FedericoMalamanBass Capito! Grazie Fede :)
Federico do you have a fire extinguisher handy? It looked to me like your fretboard was on the verge of bursting into flame.
Lol ;-) Thanks Tim!
150 bpm serve il fisioterapista :)
O il fisiopata...
@@FedericoMalamanBass o il fisiatra
The key is to make sure your righthand fingerings are al dente.
LOL
This excersice humbled me, I thought I had a good octave tecnique until I tried this. for now I can only get to a slopy 110, I will be working towards that speed, did you use 3 fingers in the secret speed?
Thanks 🙏 No, I use 2 fingers
Just found you from Davie504. You're a monster bassist.
Thanks a lot! ;-)
monster....no need to call him fat
He’s amazing;)
Cool! Are you using 3 fingers on your right hand?
Hello Ed, no ;-) Only 2
please can you post the back ground track for practice ? thanks
You can find it in the link in the video description
Ciao 👋 certamente. È nel link in descrizione
Cool Federico , are you muting the A string with your right hand ?
Yes :-)
Is that a new bass hanging in the background? Hollow body?
www.manne.com/prodotto/vibrabass/vibrabass/ It's this one :-)
Certamente :-)
Tsk tsk..
Thank you!
You should explain your right hand, it looks to me like you are using 3 or 4 fingers not 2. Your right hand looks like a classical guitarist.
Hello 👋 I’m using 2 fingers.
