    Hi, thanks for being my assistant as I also emptied and refilled my Pilot Custom 823. Not too bad a process at all. 👍

    Thanks for taking the time to present this video. I tend to use plastic as opposed to glass when cleaning my pens.

      Curious, why do you prefer plastic? My repurposed jars were previously candle or yogurt jars. I also use them in my watercolor painting. Thanks for watching!

      @@MarcellHobbs Hi, I use plastic because it is less likely to damage the pens. Especially, the nibs. I can be a bit clumsy sometimes!

      @rod4530 Oh, I totally understand that! I have a chip on the end of one of my glass dip pens. I can blame my glass rinse jars for that. Thank you for the reply. I appreciate you.

    I don't have any pens with a Vac fill system , good to know for the future as a Pilot 823 has always been on my wishlist . Thanks for the shout out , I can't believe everyone isn't talking about the soap !

    I really love the beautiful the ink journal! And many thanks for the video. But I believe you say at one point that the pen cannot be taken apart to dry or clean. This is not the case, although doing so will very likely void the warranty and can lead to severe problems if done too often or without the necessary care. You can use a wrench like that which comes with many TWSBI pens and fully disassemble the 823. There are videos on UA-cam showing how. It's a good idea to apply silicon grease afterwards to the threads and plunger to reduce the chance of an issue. But in the end, it's probably best to simply clean the pen through the flushing mechanism you model here and leave it fully assembled. Cheers!

    • @MarcellHobbs
      @MarcellHobbs  8 місяців тому

      Yes, I have since heard that and I appreciate you for correcting me. I do have several TWSBI wrenches should the need ever arise. I have disassembled and reassembled my TWSBI Eco T. For now, flushing is adequate. I have enjoyed writing with the B nib and so glad I purchased this quality pen. Thanks so much for watching and contributing to the conversation.

    I love my 823 , I'm pretty sure it's ruined me for other pens. Also love Noodler's Pecan, it is such a lovely fall color and the shading is *chef's kiss*....however, I get a lot of transfer onto other pages with it. Even after it's been dry for hours. It's a very odd ink.

    • @MarcellHobbs
      @MarcellHobbs  Рік тому +1

      Yes, the Kiowa Pecan seemed to need a lengthy drying time. I recently wrote out that ink, flushed, and filled with Diamine Writers Blood. Enjoying the raisin color and performance of this ink! 🖋

    Thanks for sharing. I’ve had my eye on that pen but want to write with it first….so that likely won’t happen until the pen show in Raleigh, 2023. Never thought of using my jumbo tub of Masters soap (from oil painting) for ink…. Fantastic!

    Hey I’m new to fountain pens but have moved writing for a long time, so looking at this for my first…one thing I’m wondering about is shouldn’t you let the barrel dry before filling it? Can you even let it dry, given the vacuum mechanism?

    • @MarcellHobbs
      @MarcellHobbs  9 місяців тому

      Hello and welcome to the fountain pen world. The Pilot Custom 823 would be an excellent choice for your first pen. As far as a wet nib, I would not need to dry it completely before inking. Wet nibs absorb the ink more readily and will be ready to write. I was just trying to justify why the ink was feathering on the paper and considering that maybe there was too much water mixed with the ink during my first strokes of ink to paper. When I have a pen flush day, I do try to let my ink barrel, cap, nib, and converter air dry on my desk before assembling for storage. Thanks for watching and enjoy your new pen!

    Nice video. How do you manage to fully get the 823 through Diamine's small plastic bottles? Aren't they a bit girthy for the bottle opening?

    • @MarcellHobbs
      @MarcellHobbs  4 місяці тому +1

      Diamine ink bottles don’t have the largest openings, but not the smallest either. The Ferris Wheel Press bottles are near impossible. If you ever experience difficulty, try an ink well.
