I'm at the border of JFK 5 miles away ,airmap says I need atc authorization and it also says coming soon? I thoad we not supposed to call atc no more! I flight her for the past 2 yrs without issues but now u get this.im confused
The airport that surrounds my house isn't listed in the laanc capable sites. I am capable of filing a flight plan but I get a message saying no authorizations have been sent. So I'm getting some mixed information. Seems to me I cant get true authorization to fly in my area. I called the tower who simply didn't want to deal with my question or was clueless as to the laanc system, he directed me that the only resource I had was to go to www.faa.gov/uas (really as if I didn't already look there) c'mon @faa get the info out there to the towers or make all airports have laanc capabilities.

He means apply for a waiver, only part 107 pilots can do that.

So you can no longer put in a request from drone zone? And if LAANC is not avail in your area what is the proper procedure?
If I have a drone that is not required to be registered (due to light weight), do I still need to get authorization?
yes , as long as you fly in controlled airspace you MUST get authorization to fly ( for now but I hope they change some of that in the future )

I just order myself a DJI Spark do I still needed to register the drone to FAA?
