Yes, the recording video tapes were of different brands, each brand having its own format, and each being incompatible with the others. During the advent of recordable videocassette tapes in the UK, several formats were available. The most popular formats during that time included:
1. VHS (Video Home System): VHS was one of the dominant video cassette formats in the UK and worldwide. It offered longer recording times compared to some other formats and became the de facto standard for home video recording and playback.
2. Betamax: Betamax was developed by Sony and was a competing format to VHS. While it was known for its superior picture quality, it ultimately lost the format war to VHS and became less common in the UK.
3. V2000 (Video 2000): V2000 was developed by Philips and was another contender in the VCR format war. It offered some unique features like the ability to record on both sides of the cassette, but it did not gain as much popularity as VHS.
4. Betacam: Betacam was a professional-grade videotape format used by broadcasters and video production companies. It was not as common in households as VHS and Betamax but was widely used in the professional industry.
5. Umatic: Umatic was another professional-grade format, developed by Sony. It was often used for industrial and educational purposes and was not as prevalent in households.
6. Video8 and Hi8: These formats were introduced later and were primarily used for camcorders. They were smaller in size compared to VHS and Betamax and offered better portability.
7. VHS-C: VHS-C was a compact version of the VHS format designed for camcorders. It used smaller cassettes and required an adapter to play in standard VHS players.
These are some of the formats that were available during the advent of recordable videocassette tapes in the UK. VHS ultimately emerged as the dominant consumer format, while Betacam and Umatic remained popular in professional settings.
VHS and Betamax were the two main ones. In my opinion in (and as generally recognised), Betamax was the best. It was a smaller size, more compact and therefore more easily storable than VHS and the quality was better. However, VHS won the battle in the long term and became the most popular due to marketing etc etc etc.
Oh, and also... VHS in the UK were different from VHS in Canada and the US, so they would have to be converted just as Jack had to do.
I feel bad that my favourite bit is when Victor and Jack do the naming and Winston says you get done for that
In all of the reaction videos ive seen on Still Game , nobody has mentioned the Ad in Naveeds window the guy Looks a dead ringer for Harry without the bunnet(16.30)
Not going to lie, a bit hard to spot, I had to zoom in but I see what you mean
I think you've missed an episode from Series 2 - 'Scran'
Correct, he put Shoogies as episode 6 when it was 7 and Scran is episode 6
Yep. Looks like it.
Here to say this
Cause scran is my favourite episode and I knew I hadn't seen it
Oh bloody Hell! Looks like I will have to rectify that for you all!
@@kevinthegeek23 Sorry, sir
basically The vhs tapes ran at different speeds so you had to have them converted
Looking forward to the Canada episode, it’s one of the best
Loving your reactions, and any excuse to watch Still Game again ✌🏻❤️
Yer Geeks like you stick together ya banger
VHS tapes were never region, they were a different size for the North American market and would not fit uk recorders so shug converts this Canadian version to UK VHS
