What are the best SMGs in Ready or Not?

- There are many submachine guns (and PDWs) to choose from in Ready or Not. Smaller weapons tailored for full auto bursts aren't always the ideal option - but in certain environments, they are a great choice. SWAT teams around the world have used submachine guns such as the MP5 for years, and many still do to this day. The question is, which ones are the best in Ready or Not? Today, we rank them from F to S tier based on how well they function, and how cool they look.

The MP9 was actually designed by Steyr as the TMP. B&T purchased the design at a later date.
thanks for the trivia bit
And basically the only differences was that they changed the stock and added the top rail
Came to comments to find this comment, was not disappointed.
It's also recoil-operated, which makes it a real unicorn among these SMGs.
@@immikeurnot Some of us would argue that's a bad thing lol.
Initially, because of the abundance of body armor, I thought P90 or MP7 is the way. However, I felt like the P90 seemed to still require a lot of bullets to neutralize a threat. Besides, found something nice : with 9mm SMGs, even though you don't pen body armor, you're more likely to down them non-lethally, making it a decent "less likely to be lethal" option. That said, it's important to control your burst and observe your target to not "over shoot them" until they die. It mostly works against body armor, unarmored suspects are still likely to die. Besides, nothing beat the classic SWAT feel of the MP5A2 with the flashlight and no other attachment.
Very good advice! I'm soloing the Commander mode and it's so hard not to kill armed suspects once they've decided to make a try.
This is a legit strategy, although I haven't been able to do it consistently
from what i've heard, 9mm and .45 ACP seem to be pretty inconsistent as far as getting them to give up vs them not caring. then again, i'm getting similar inconsistencies with beanbags, pepperballs, and gas.
@xevanski2737 It's not really consistent for sure, but I was surprised by how often it would happen while doing some cosplay with the MP5. I was surprised by the survival rate and by how they would sometimes surrender due to the suppression, pain, or stun from getting 9mm in their limbs or from the blunt force in their body armor. It's not as reliable as an SA58 or a beanbag for sure though.
I believe there is a bug with the P90 because it does not down people in a reasonable burst. I have less ammo in a MP7 but can down more enemies than I can with a P90 by a lot. I can easily down 4-5 enemies with MP7, but the P90 I can barley get 2 people per mag
The MP7 is straight disgusting in RoN, it's a good primary for almost any map minus the large ones where the engagement range demands an AR.
It's one of my favorites
P90 Master race
PDWs are almost the perfect weapon for urban/domestic encounters. they're compact, without sacrificing penetration

Not having the MP5SD in this game feels like a major oversight. I guess it’s more of a niche military application than SWAT… but after handling and using one, it will forever be my favorite pistol caliber weapon. Such a dream to shoot, and so controllable even on full auto out to 50 yards
MP5SD is my favorite by far
Thats because is 2023 not the 1980's. Everyone has started moved away from sub machines/PDW's to Carbines. The only application still relevant for Subs/PDW's is VIP protection.
a lot of stuff in this game is a major oversight thanks to the low iq devs
@@Deleteyourself83basically every swat team in the U.S. still uses SMGs and PDWs with the MP5SD actually being quite popular still. Most SWAT teams don’t encounter body armor on a regular basis.
@@Deleteyourself83 Maybe at well funded departments. My local one still has plenty of MP5s being used, including MP5SDs.
I love how you give background on all the guns! It makes the video much more interesting then just listing how good the gun is and then ranking it.
I love talking about their history
@@civilianuseonlyWhen the Shotgun video?
I am of the opposite opinion. Most players watching this video won't care and will find it annoying. I, as a gun nerd, am also annoyed because I already know all of this stuff.
I clicked on a video to see a tier list ranking, not hear someone go into details about a firearm in real life.
Considering the significant difference bw the energy of the 10mm vs the 9mm, Id say that the MP5-10 should pack more punch.
Yeah, but then again there's not a whole lot of difference between any of the calibers outside of armor pen. 9mm through 308 all usually kill in 2-3 shots on unarmored targets.
IRL 10mm isn't going to have any better armor pen than 9mm, so frankly the in-game depiction is pretty good.
probably has underloaded cartridges (very common in 10mm)
@turdbergler657 agreed, have seen 10mm used as an anti fragmentation and designed to not overshoot targets. Saw some cool rounds designed to destroy soft targets but only pen 1 sheet of drywall so that you don't overshoot targets
@@ConReese You're talking about frangible ammo? That's not unique to 10mm. I guarantee there isn't a single bullet design/type that is unique to 10mm.
@@CharlieMikeNS I never said it was unique, just that it was good at it while still maintaining good soft target damage
I always pick the MP7 because I’ll never get my hands on one irl

I think Tommy Built Tactical is working on a semi automatic pistol version that you can SBR. Of course, it’s going to be around $3500-$3600 😮
The MPX never seeing mass adoption is interesting, and I have a theory about that. Most SWAT teams are ditching Submachine guns and PDWs for shorter AR-15s in 5.56 or .300 Blackout, which you can compact to Submachine gun sizes but still get great armor penetration with. Departments that can afford to upgrade are switching to SBRs, departments that can't couldn't afford the MPX anyway and are probably still using 30 year old MP5s and Mossbergs
Quite likely, and the 30 year old beat up Mp5s definitely are a thing
I used to be Border Patrol (I'm happily no longer a fed or cop, long story...), we had a few UMP40's (in .40 S&W) in our arsenals including the Academy, and I must say, the UMP is the worst full auto gun I fired. It's clunky, the simpler operating system makes high recoil, and the oversized handguard gives bad ergonomics, you can't C-clamp it(it's oversize makes even a normal grip less solid unless you have sasquatch hands) and that heaviy increases practical recoil. It's key purpose for design was cost cutting as you mention in the video, well, that's very obvious when you handle it.
Being one of the earlier polymer framed rifles, the receivers were also known to crack after a couple thousand or so rounds. It was also used by ATV patrolman, and bumping and falls from the ATV's were also known to critically damage the frame in ways that wouldn't happen to other guns.
With the advent of the MK18 and the following popularity of SBR length AR's, AR15 SBR's eventually replaced the UMP40's some time in the 2010's, good riddance!
On the contrary, I knew someone who worked with the FBI and got to use an MP5/10, and he said it was amazing. An MP5 with beefy 10mm but with a bolt hold open does sound like a dream SMG.
Small world, I'm also former border patrol. Interesting to hear about the UMP - I've always heard negative things, but never about cracking receivers
Wait, the 10mm MP5 has bho?
@@xsevo1028 yep
@@xsevo1028yes, but I’ve also seen that it had reliability issues, unless that’s changed.
@@civilianuseonlyI’ve heard some stories like that.
The P90 mag being opaque is a game limit (that they are working on fixing) not something they were too lazy to do according to a dev.
You also forgot to mention the P90 is a weapon of war, made to kill the enemy, as shown by one of America's top special forces teams: SG-1.
This is supported by the mag check animation: the character just tilts the P90 up to look at the mag as if it's see-through
The P90 isn't a "weapon of war". It was designed to be used by counter terrorist forces and police, and also as a primary weapon for non-combat personnel.
It's more of a defensive or specialist weapon. When I think "weapon of war" I think about front line service rifles and stuff, like ARs and AKs. You know, assault style rifles.
You won't ever see general infantry using a PDW.
@@TheFirstCurse1 i don’t want to but someone’s gotta say it: you should really google SG-1

The MP7 is my go to PDW in every game, it's as effective as the P90 but it's slightly more beautiful in my opinion
As much as I love the amount of choices you have in firearms in the game I keep remembering that the LSPD is supposed to be very underfunded and my suspension of disbelief starts breaking when everyone in my Element including Judge is carrying p90 and Five Seven sidearms with night vision on lol. Anyways great vid hope to see more soon!
Thanks, more to come
Your guys are so special in the unit that they've made sure to use half the budget in 5 dudes
Yeah it’s a gameplay compromise. Maybe story wise in commander mode they can make it so you unlock more guns and tools as you complete missions to show that support for the department increases as they complete missions.
I actually limit myself to using a few guns with minimal attachments to fit the lore lol
I have a theory that the team is on loan from another agency.
Based Administrative Results moment.
While using UMP45 I noticed, that AP rounds tend to incapacitate, but not entirely kill most of the suspects if aiming at abdomen. Found myself using it a lot lately
this is against plate wearers? if so that's pretty useful to know
My biggest issue with the gun is the slow fire rate though
Too bad that incaps are still basically pointless (For the most part) as they count for the same score as kills currently.

The classic MP5 for me personally is a case of "if it's not broken don't fix it." And I also think the equip animation for the P90 is the coolest in all of RoN.
One thing I never thought I would experience is Christmas music playing over RoN. So I guess in that spirit, I'll spread the Christmas spirit through 9 mm. Merry X-mas.

Love background info about guns, very interesting material, which gets reflected in the game. Waiting for shotguns)
I love how out of 10 SMGs, 7 of them are german. Man I love my country!
11:03 4.6 out of the MP7 from what I've heard, is NOT a good round. People who used it say everyone gets at least half a mag, no exceptions. If you thought people complain about the lethality of 5.56 or 9mm, "hold my grains" -MP7
My go to commander mode weapons for my AI teammates are mp7, mpx, mp5a2 lol
We need a Rifle Tier list video.
The SPC is actually my favorite. I don't really feel the recoil, but I also do bursts of 3-4 rounds which makes it very effective
SPC with JHP against non armored is such a joy 👍
Listing LE agencies that don't have an MP5 would be a drastically larger list than those that do, gross over exaggeration. AR15s are significantly more affordable and vastly more available. MP5s are acquired by large departments with large budgets, and even then they are only distributed to a handful of Officers in specialized units..
It's nice to see the admin results MP7 clip memed this way
1:40 2:27 3:39 5:24 7:51 8:53 10:08 10:34 12:17 13:32
the 10mm MP5 was the first ever gun I used in this game and since then I've almost exclusively used it. Tried a bunch of different rifles, the shotguns but I've only ever tried the 10mm MP5 and MP9. I don't know why but the 10mm MP5 just feels right to me, it always felt more like an allrounder to me and I've never had any problems with it. I think the damage difference becomes noticeable, when you start shredding legs because you accidentally brought a 10mm/9mm into a map with many heavily armored hostiles. In my opinion, the 10mm also works good on longer ranges, partly because the slightly increased recoil makes me slow it down a bit, which makes me hit more shots, which decreases the risk of hurting civillians. The MP9 I enjoy for it's small size and I used to bring the 416 with that flip scope for longer ranges. The AK is also quite nice for small maps with armored hostiles
I believe The MPX Is (S) because it never let me down with fast controllable fire rate and quick reloads. The only downfall I can see Is mag capacity which can hinder you if you are rushed by 3 or more enemies but the super fast reload kinda negates that.
I wish MP5 10mm in RoN have an option to remove the rail systems... i miss that classic look from the classic R6 series
Like MP5 for lowest recoil in any fire mode, but favorite is UMP-45 for 600 rpm that give opportunity control recoil and shots in auto, for stopping effect of fat 45acp too.
original MP5 with flashlight fore-grip is still my fave, no changing that
While the submachine guns are nice... I personally rarely need to get off my shotgun. Because for once, shotguns actually have good range, and they only kinda suck against more heavily armored enemies, which is usually not an issue.
If we just count the most practical and usefull SMGs and ditching the look and fame of it I knew immediatelly the P90 and MP7 will be the best one ever: simply because it got every advantage and actually no disadvantages- large mag, high firerate, accuracy and low recoil, great armor penetration power.
I'd say the 10mm version of the MP5 soundsa a bit weird. It should be actually a bit louder and more impactfull, but it's the opposite.
Especially all 10mm rounds are actually automatically "P+" rounds because the 10mm rounds were developed in a time age where guns are such modern and good fabricated so they can easily withstand P+ ammo type and there was no reason to not create automatically stronger versions.
I got no specific favorite for myself specially- how ever I tend to use more effektive ones on later levels (where suspects waering body armor and more often using civillians as hostages)
The devs said they are working on the P90 magazine but that was like a year ago so idk if they actually are.
I hope they add the Vityaz, would be a fun eastern counterpart to the MP5
Or the CZ Scorpion.
I love how you describe the mp5 A2. Just like how i will describe the g36. Its sexy and it drips slick ass magnificent ugh.
But my smg is mp7. But for sexiness its the mp9 with the suppressor....
The MP5 10mm is my go to for basically anything in Ready or Not. The reason is rather simple. I'm a terrible shot! I basically never switch it off that two round burst and I find that if I aim for the neck of a target I can quickly take down most targets even armored enemies. If you really need to defeat body armor, you can always rapidly tap the trigger to turn that burst fire into a semi auto. I've found that I perform more reliably with this gun then anything. Admittedly, I could just practice more and do better with a rifle. But not only does it seem to work for me, it also looks cool as fuck.
It doesn't matter if you dont like using full auto, you're gonna have to, its a SMG, low recoil, compact, small, its made for full auto at CQC distances. Unless you play on a more long range focused combat map, then you should reconsider switching your weapon.
i wished the suspect guns were playable for the UZI. it would definetely be one of the weakest but still the coolest
Give me the Uzi with wood stock
For me UMP45 is enough, it's friendly to rifle users, and it can snipe, and the P90 only have 30 rounds per mag in game, I have counted it all
I love the MP9 purely because on early missions the FMJ rounds just melt suspects and later missions the AP shreds through them, same with the MP7 German weapons just hit different
Don't you mean JHP instead of FMJ?
Spc is s tier. Mpx in theory should have less recoil but in game it blows. You are fucking high. Get more reps in and you’ll see.
Man you did the SPC dirty. By far the quickest damage dealer of the SMGs. JHP in all missions. Start at the pelvic girdle and stitch up to the head. Doesn't matter if they have body armor or not.
10mm all the way
MP5/P90 is the best cause you can be a Stargate team fighting the Gou'ld XD
I love the P90 both in rainbow Six Seige and Ready Or Not, HUGE THANKS for this rate, It was really thoroughly done, by all SMG. Gonna try out this MP7
If they ever add the Vector I'll use it exclusively.
Honestly I'd rather have whatever the suspects are using. Shit seems to work.
Legend has it that the 5.7x28 round has enough velocity to reach the moon and hit any aliens living up there.
MP7 is easy mode. It shreds armor like nothing and has almost no recoil. 40 round mags too? It's just too good.
10mm MP5 should be A LOT better based on reality
The B&T APC9 (Shorter variant of the SPC9) was also chosen by the U.S. Army and Air Force for VIP Protection Details.
they need a true MP5 SD, the ones ingame look weird with suppresers

i only use semi auto rifle or a 12g shotgun never really found a use for a smg because there's the short ar 15s
7:16 lol, that's actually how you should charge the MP5 or at least for it's older model
MP5A2 with the flashlight, iron sights and no suppressor is where its at
pls stop talking like 2016 pyrocynical
I like these tier videos. Hope you make more.
My top 3 SMGs are: MP5/10, SPC, UMP-45. Further ones I occasionally take out: P90 (Stargate feels), MP7.
Regarding SMGs I'm waiting for the MP5SD6, MP5KA4 (with burst), MP5/40, MP5 MLI, Beretta PMX, Beretta Mx4 Storm to come to the game.
And also Glock 19 mounted in CAA RONI-G2 full auto, or replace the Glock with a full auto capable Glock.
14:50. knowing what this map is, I understand why you did that.
Deserved
It’d be neat if they added the CZ Scorpion.
I mean let's face it; P90's massive 50 round magazine nets it a definitive place at the top of usefulness...
I (the taxpayers) paid for the 50 round mag, I'm going to use the whole mag.
Not only that, because of its large mag you can take less mags into the map which leaves you way more room for other tools.
Mp7 is hands down the best untill they add mp5sd
I'm not sure why the devs went with the UMP 9 over the UMP 40.
I think it's a bit ridiculous to put it in the P90 S series, because the 5.7 bullets it uses are limited and expensive. But you can find 9mm on the ground even while walking on the road.
this isn't Tarkov though
why is thw mp510 so rare in games i think its really cool
i actually really love the MP7 with the pistol sights
As someone who has fired both an MP5 and P90 in full auto... the P90 is amazing. Literally no contest in recoil and control. That thing is a laser.
The overkill mag dumping on dead bodies as they fall is so hilarious
omw to find iranian embassy mod and rock the mp5
The raid on the guys making full-auto stuff was the only one I equipped all pepper balls on. Should’ve been legal from the start.
I've personally found the spc extremely controllable if you pull down while firing, and with the right attachments it's basically a laser pointer after a bit of use. the full auto is excessively fast though, and it burns ammo if you aren't judicious with the trigger.
i use the MP5A2 for retro LARPing lol
I really wish they had the MP5A2 with the collapsing stock instead of the stock in-game.
Mp5a3 would be peak die hard vibes
tmp/mp9 ftw since raven shield
As gigachad i choose SPC9 because Looks cool
When I play RoN I choose the UMP45 and the MP5A2(Technically A4). UMP45 mainly because of the slower firerate and the bigger punch. It's a weapon that permits you good control in full auto, and you aren't spitting bullets and have more time to let go of the trigger if a civilian comes running into the line of fire. MP5A2 however is a practical option. I don't need too much in the way of attachments if the weapon itself has compensation, and is a comfortable choice for close quarters against targets with minimal body armor.
Honestly, the pistol irons on the MP7 are pretty good, especially in close quarters dark maps where a flashlight can outshine a holo sight.
