    Great job! I've started myself just a few days ago, and it's quite fun actually... keybr really makes the process faster and I've learned more on on the first day than in all of my previous attempts combined. Accuracy is definitely important, I force myself to slow down when I'm getting under 95% and after it goes up, the speed rises along with it.

    Thank you!! Your video really eased my nerves! I have been touch typing SERIOUSLY for a couple days now and have felt really bad the entire time. To be honest it feels like I am stupid and slow and can't think fast enough to type over 40wpm (with an average of 32) I have barely unlocked 17 of the letters so far and just feel like I am not actually making progress but thanks to you and your well worded video I actually feel my self doubt and self sabotaging thoughts leave. Good job! Nice storytelling and narration :) Thank you for adding timestamps as well.
    It took me about 2 months to get from 50 wpm to 110 wpm) in English (which even now is a bit slower in Norwegian (probably because you have those extra ÆØÅ letters to worry about, and in languages like Latvian, where you need to press AltGr for diacritics, well that slows you down even more. )
    I was also logging my Russian typing speed improvements as well at the same time. Which went from being around 15 wpm to around 50-60 in the same time span.
    So wherever you are, be it 10 wpm, or 60 wpm, there is always room for improvement. I actually think it is much easier to get from 60 to 100 wpm. Around a year now I have been trying to get from 100-110 wpm to 120-130. It just gets harder and harder, right now it seems like my main obstacle is my actual reading speed (which currently is not too high)
    and remember, even though I for example am getting 100+ WPM in MonkeyType, that is in English (Difficulty: easy), with punctuation I get even lower WPM-counts.So don't think that so many *actually* has a 100+ typing speed IRL. When you have to think about what you are typing when doing work or studying, most of speed-typists typing-speed is probably around the 60-mark anyway. :))))

    • @Its_jason_ho
      @Its_jason_ho  Рік тому +2

      Those are great insights. I absolutely agree with the irl speed being lower, monkeytype is definitely a less accurate representation of actual typing. Very impressive you can type in so many languages!

    I had a surprisingly similar journey! Until one year ago, I had been typing the same way as you with two fingers (+1 or 2 for special keys). I also had to look at the keyboard regularly and I also had the same speed as you! Around 60 WPM.
    One year ago, I got a new keyboard as well. A custom mechanical one. I also switched to a new keyboard layout (EurKey instead of QWERTZ) and decided more or less on a whim that now'd be the time to learn touch typing. I used typingclub, which is a bit more aimed towards beginners, but I had a really good experience and it was fun. It took me about 1 week to get to 60 WPM WPM, I think, but I spent more time per day practising. I didn't really continue to practise after that, I learned a lot of the non-letter keys just on the go. Now I'm sitting at around 70-80 WPM. At some point I also want to get to 80 or higher consistently.

    • @Its_jason_ho
      @Its_jason_ho  Рік тому +1

      Amazing journey! I've never heard of EurKey, but I'm glad it's working for you. Tbh I think I'd also naturally get faster if I typed more at work etc. It all comes down to repetition in the end.

    • @JohnnyJayJay
      @JohnnyJayJay Рік тому +1

      @@Its_jason_ho EurKey is basically just US QWERTY but with tons of extra characters for European languages mapped to Alt Gr keys. It's pretty cool, allows you to type words in many more languages, which was a requirement for me.

    My initial wpm was always around 60 minimum when I was a kid, 100 wpm average when I was in high school(I started using computer when I was 5yrs old). I rarely practice, I just play games, watch, read etc. Im college now and turning to be a doctor, my average is 120-130(on 99-100% accuracy), I can reach max 140-180 when I try hard but man I gotta respect your consistency, you also inspired me, great job man!
    Note for everyone who wants to IMPROVE: It's always been ok to be a slow typer, what matters most is your accuracy and consistency when typing. Eventually with the proper experience, comfort with your hands and consistent practice, your sense/instinct will develop typing and you'll see the improvements. Your back posture wouldn't necessarily affect your typing speed and accuracy, your hand posture will, of course with exceptions and it's also more preferably if you straighten your back. Also, when you read.. try not to read too far ahead, just read what you can read with your pace along with your typing, and eventually so your hands and eyes will be more in sync. Also, I have noticed, a lot of slow typers bring their fingers way too high from the keyboard, it will strain and fatigue your hands more as well as it'll slower your typing by a lot. If you are right-handed, prioritize practicing your left hand. While being not too related with typing, practicing your non-dominant hand daily (with your daily chores whatsoever) will increase your accuracy and speed by a bit if you get more comfortable and used to it, trust me.. both of your hands will be more on sync. At first it will be uncomfortable, but trust me it's worth it, it can also help when you're a pianist as well, I'm also a pianist and apparently, your dexterity, comfort, reflex, and flexibility will improve on both, they will benefit one another(ofc you don't need to be a pianist when you wanna improve your typing speed). If ever someone doesn't believe me, it's your choice to do so, you can research more about it and you'll be seeing I'm spitting facts(I learned from experience and knowledge of almost 2 decades with almost daily use of computer, yes even before when I was a kid, I used computer 5-7days a week, I also took computer related courses before I switched to medical field). Your brain will also be improved when you do some of the advices I told you.
    So yeah, if u don't change the way you practice(just typing and practice on websites everyday, thinking that you're gonna improve a lot by doing it for months or years) your limits will be just of an average person, but if you take my advices(of course, not just my advice, try to watch a lot and read a lot about improving typing speed if you are eager to improve) you can exceed your limits more than an average typer does. Don't stay average if you want to break your chains from something you really want to improve on.

I was forty-five I think about then, but I learned, or started learning to touch type when I was at school at the age of eleven with one of those really old metal things that were really hard to get along with asdf ;lkj etc. So when I got my PC it was really different and I looked at the keyboard again for a few years. I think I was over fifty when I decided to try to type for real again. I actually managed it, and now my keyboard is under my desktop but I have no idea what my speed is.

    Hi Jason, this is a bit of a niche question, but I was just wondering which thumb you use for the space bar?
    Do you use the right thumb all the time (if so, why?)
    Or do you use the thumb on the hand opposite to the hand that you typed the last letter with? (I.e. if you typed the letter "n" you'd use the left thumb and if you typed the letter "f" you'd use the right thumb)
    I've seen this method suggested on some typing websites, but I'd love to get your opinion
