  • For over a decade, the Discovery Channel's Mythbusters thrilled viewers with explosive experiments and dynamic duo Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman. However, this video sheds new light on the cracks beneath their carefully crafted facade. Far from the best of friends fans imagined, Savage and Hyneman actually harbored a bitter rivalry all along. Through revealing interviews and behind-the-scenes accounts, we uncover how their caustic relationship nearly destroyed one of the longest-running shows in history.

Beyond surface spats, this video delves deep into the true reasons for the pair's visceral disdain. You'll be shocked to learn it stemmed not from a single disagreement, but rather from irreconcilable differences in personality, work ethic and priorities that poisoned their partnership from day one. As the pressure of lengthy filming took its toll, even minor clashes ballooned into all-consuming feuds. Tensions were further inflamed by constant career one-upmanship and clashing creative visions that reduced their empire to an endless struggle for power and credit.
Along the way, little-known personal tragedies within the Mythbusters family are also brought to light. From health issues to tragic on-set accidents, some casts' lives were forever altered through their daring exploration-a sobering counterpoint to the show's thrill-seeking spirit. Through intimate stories, we come to understand the human toll of pushing scientific boundaries so relentlessly within high-stakes television.
By the finale, cracks had erupted into a toxic rivalry that completely consumed whatever made their early success possible. Now, without censorship, the true story can finally be told. So join us on this compelling journey behind the scenes of one of television's greatest scientific institutions to uncover what really went so disastrously wrong between its two legendary yet completely mismatched figureheads. Be sure to stick around to the very end. Enjoy!

I'm really sure Adam has said that they don't hate each other, and they actually respect each other because of how well they're both able to get things done, it's just that they don't gel outside of work.

I was actually on set with them for the last seasons Zombie episodes and saw none of this. I know Adam has talked about their 'difficult' relationship, but also of their mutual admiration and trust. I believe their working relationship was MUCH better than what is described here. I am not say there is zero truth here, but the truth her sounds VERY exaggerated to me.

Thank you for your thoughts here. I agree. For the bozos at "Facts" Versus to state "they hate each other so much" is a rather strong accusation that I hope they can support in a court of law. Especially so given, as you've stated and which I have also read elsewhere from both of them, that they had a professional relationship in the entertainment industry and at times had differing takes on the creative end. That's par for the course. But "hate"? Good luck with that Facts Versus; may The Force bite you in the ass.

Of course, now Ad as m Savage has his UA-cam channels like Tested where he is almost always alone on camera doing or building stuff.
The biggest single mistake, IMO, was basing the show on Jamie's turf, in his shops. It limited his opportunity to build a business outside Mythbusters while Adam could be free to pursue whatever he wanted to when off camera. Of course Jamie had way more space and a much more regimented storsge of materials, while Adam knows where everything in his shop is, but anyone looking for something is going to find Jimmy Hoffa running a dice game in the attic befire finding whatever they're looking for.

I don't buy into the argument that they "hated" each other. How could they work together for 14 years if they hated each other? Seriously, 14 seasons in TV is A LOT. Jamie is my age and when they show ended, he (like me) was ready to retire, or at least do something else! We got 14 years of Mythbusters. It was wonderful!
But I think you have correctly described Jamie's and Adam's polar opposite approaches. It always struck me that Jamie was very "left brained": Methodical & logical. While Adam was very "right brained": Artistic, creative and prone to skip steps! This is what made watching the show interesting to see how they approached a problem.
I always got the feeling that the show runners were trying to pit them against each other, but they were just playing along with the game. As the show progressed things changed and it was even more fun to see them working together. Sure, Adam got under Jamie's skin from time to time ("We're observing the Hyneman in his native environment", says Adam to the camera. Jamie, miffed, says "Is he doing that impression again?") But I never got the impression that they didn't respect each other. They certainly didn't need to "one up" each other. The viewers loved them both.
Some people imagined that they hung out together on the weekends. Get real. It's "Mythbusters", not "Cheers". Those men have LIVES. They work together all day (and all night), they're not going to hang out on the weekends!
I think people really enjoyed ALL of them: Jamie, Adam, Kari, Grant, Tory and (my personal favorite) Scottie Chapman. I love a girl who can weld! 🙂
I think we were lucky to have them on TV for 14 years. And it's great that Adam does youtube now. I really enjoy his videos.
But time moves on! All good things come to an end!

I can relate to their chemistry. It usually happens to people who thinks they are smarter than the others. These 2 guys had that mentality towards each other when things didn't go right during their show. And obviously adam always tries to cover it up by laughing at things while jamie keeping everything to himself. Do they hated each other ? I dont think so. Their personality doesnt match and thats okay. This is like being at work in reality. One day you and your colleague works together and felt like he's / she is your best friend forever, and the next day its just awkward between the both of you (for whatever reason that had happened at work). These guys didn't just taught us about science didn't they?

that’s why I used the words “claims” and “he denied”. Not casting dispersions on him, just answering your question why the OP referred to him as a creep. @@user-ek5nl1jc4b

I had a 'friend' whom I will call 'Spock.' Consistently above it all, too 'intelligent' to smile, relax, and laugh, as do we mere mortals. Arrogant he wasn't.., only because that shorthand of the word isn't big enough. He was NOT someone you would say had a 'large ego' either; 'egotisticallyfragilexperialadotious' would be getting close. This is how Jamie seemed to me from the very first episode. An ASS in a Hat (because of course. He HAD to stand apart from the mere human and immensely popular and likable Adam)!

Not many skyscrapers have had fueled airliner aircraft crash into it like this. So your argument is hallow as you don't have real live data to refute how the towers collapsed as well. The high level of complexity of coordinating a stage collapse makes this conspiracy theory so outlandish. Just getting the location of staged collapse to the random impact is essentially impossible. I find the engineering explanation of the collapse reasonable.

@andret4403 that doesn't matter buildings made out of steel do not burn; airplane fuel burns at around 1200 degrees but those steel gurders do not start to melt until around 2100 degrees. Experts estimate that most of the fuel blew out of the building when the planes hit the buildings. Also, because those planes were short flights, they only carried about 1/3 the fuel that they do when flying over seas. Now read this very carefully...the National Federation of Architects and Engineers have PUBLICALLY STATED that the governments contention that those planes knocked down those buildings are impossible. And how about Dick Cheney's orders that the Air Defense stand down. No, again, the idea that those planes did what they say is impossible proving both the governments claims and Myth Buster's contention ridiculous.

@elijahjames8837 structural steel loses 50% of yield strength at 1100 F. The Max adiabatic burn temperature of Jet-A fuel is 4050 F. In a crash, you have compression of the fuel air mix, resulting in temperatures greater than the open air burn temperature you quoted. Add wind you have essentially a forge furnace resulting in higher temperatures. Add the structural design of the buildings. You had sufficient thermal energy to exceed the loading at temperature with the structural damage caused by impact. Seriously, doubt architects would conclude what you said going against structural engineering analysis. Note, there were serious design deficiencies in the tower designs.
