Yeah, that's part of why the "new mythbusters" show failed imo. From what little of it I watched, they all wanted to be the Adam type, which lacked the counterbalance of Jamie. That's just part of it, since any followup / remake right after the original is a bad idea in general.

As Adam himself once said, "it was the oldest trope in the book -- the straight man and funny man." One of the reasons I can't take a lot of builder channels on UA-cam is that they're all trying to be high-energy Adam, and surround themselves with Adams, all SCREAMING whenever something moderately interesting happens. It's fake garbage and needs a stable rock like Jaime to provide the center.

Not only does jaime come across as a introvert, people need to remember M5 was HIS workshop. No matter who you are, how extroverted or introverted you are....constantly having your space invaded like that with camera crews, production teams, must really take its toll on you mentally.
When he questioned whether or not he comes back for more seasons it must have always come with the overwhelming desire to get his workshop back for himself and his team..

Yea, if you rewatch the 'behind the scenes' on the food fight bit they did on one of (maybe THE) last episode I just get a strong vibe of "I'm done with this shit; can I just make stuff now?" from Jamie. It's my dark-horse theory for why the show ended, Jamie just have enough of it all and wanted to be free to make whatever, whenever, without cameras around all the time.

It also doesn't help he literally had a business to run for M5. Sometimes in the background you see projects unrelated to Mythbusters, and I can't imagine how frustrating it is to take up work space and time just to film. I guess that's why M6 and M7 was created. But once the show started cranking out 20 to 30 episodes, and each episode had multiple myths. There goes time dedicated to running a special effects company.

That all makes perfect sense to me and I think I'd feel similarly. But... They had to have made a ton of money, why not just buy and make another shop and land and such? Either new one for the show to stop using M5 or a new for Jamie/M5. Feel like some of their experiments were probably as expensive as that already. You'd think the studio would rather do that as part of a new contract to keep Jamie rather than let him go?

It’s ofttimes the best way to run a work relationship. I’ve worked with people in the past and we’ve had such a great working relationship that we achieved amazing outputs. But I wouldn’t have dreamed of ever socialising with them outside of work. I guess it comes down to actually being able to focus on the work. I’ve also had working relationships where we’ve been literally best friends and you end up losing about two working hours every day to idle chit chat about non-work related stuff. Opposed to the chit chat with the former being solely work related.

(maybe it stands out here because we kind of _expect_ Adam and Jamie to be friends so when we find out, nope, they were just colleagues, we struggle a bit to reframe their relationship in everyday terms ? Jamie had to be personally invested to show outwardly the enthusiasm Adam can use for almost any situation. That is a classic introvert. They don't show all their cards to someone they just met, even if it is part of the gig.
Whether Jamie was actually into the competition or not isn't going to really show since he was not on a team problem solving. It likely was another network obligation he didn't want and that prejudiced him against the whole thing.
I think Adam was a perfect foil for Jamie, but when it came to the stuff outside making the show, I think for Jamie it was time away from his main focus.

Have to say that I appreciate both you Adam and Jamie for remaining professional even though both of you have admitted to not seeing eye to eye on a lot during the filming of the show. The dynamic between the two of you actually helped push both of you to learn and study more of the science of the show. Really you guys are a great role model to having to work with colleagues sometimes you have a hard time getting along with time to time, the best part is both of you have acknowledged the tensions yet give credit and respect to the other. Many others could learn more about this aspect and could have served our society well imo.
The beauty of the show was the collaboration with different mindsets to discover more about the sciences, each person contributed a different angle to each case to see if there was a way to have a solution to each theory. Sometimes it’s a good reminder that there can be a work environment that you don’t have to be friends with everyone, and that is okay. Ultimately that is a question that Jamie can answer, but it’s nice to remember everyone has different ways to express themselves.

I used to take a one hour lunch break. Eat my lunch then sleep for the rest of the hour. It refreshed me for the afternoons work. My work hours were always extended because I compartmentalized tasks where I would set up and run one task and while that was proceeding I would start the next one. That way I maximized my use of time. I always set a task up to run overnight at the end of the day so I could finish it first thing next day. This meant finishing up later than most others. I would also finish the day by planning out my routine for the next day and getting what I needed ready to go in the morning. That short nap was really key to my productivity.

I work as a butcher and Meat & Seafood Manager and also the Shop Steward for a very large Unionized Supermarket in Canada. But every day on my break I walk deep into the woods behind the store, sit on my milk crate, listen to symphony orchestra or an audiobook and watch the plants and the birds and the flowers and the insects and I sit there the full hour, with a cup of tea and 3 or 4 cigarettes.
Your brain needs that recharge more than your conscious mind thinks it does. I used to spend my lunches doing schedules and orders and stuff I dont have time to do to begin with and one day realized I need to take care of myself, too.

In regards to needing a nap, it is interesting to hear you mention the time of 2pm in the afternoon. For the majority of my life I was never able to take a nap. My brain never seems to shut off until it is completely exhausted and "naps" if I was able to take one just made me groggy, which often they still do. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2017 which explained a lot of other things like increased fatigue and other things as well but in the last few years since then I have "learned" to nap. It's interesting to me that I often get extremely tired and need the nap at around 2pm during a day when i'm busy trying to actually do things. As I think about it, I often remember my Grandfather frequently falling asleep in his lounge chair around the 2-3pm time frame. Being both a farmer and a welder at a powerplant he had a lot of long hard days working so I certainly understand the need for rest.
It makes me wonder if we all don't force ourselves to work harder then we should. Me working long hours with not very much quality sleep is what finally caused my body to physically fail resulting in falls that, once I rested, I could pull myself up from, but before that sleep it wasn't going to happen.

When you have 2 groups of soldiers, say 20-200 men, all aiming at each other, one side yells fire, both sides fire from the instruction being heard (you are just a few hundred feet apart), it becomes very likely when you have that happening hundred of thousands if not millions of times throughout the war. even if the odds are 1;100,000, thats still enough that it could happen.

Two cars colliding head on at 50mph is the same as 1 car hitting a brick wall at 50mph (result of both is a dead stop), but is also the same as 1 car striking a stationary car at 100 mph, assuming the collision will roll away from the impact at 50mph (impact force and damage to both cars will be replicated).

It's funny how the internet ran with that. She tried the thing herself and said to not do it on Adam. Same with Tori, and Kari tried it when they redid the third rail but on an electric fence. Supposedly the producer kept going with the stunt, but that's another controversy in itself. Heck you could see how uncomfortable the three looked when Adam was about to touch it.

The comment about your subordinates having to wake you up is spot on, Adam. We used to have to wake up our commanders during deployments. To be fair, they sometimes only got a few hours here and there over periods of weeks. But it always sucked to have to go shake your boss awake in the middle of the night.

I once read that Scottie was asked to leave after the Arc of the Covenant shock prank. It sounds like that is not true, which I hope is correct. Is it true that she chose to leave? She was fantastic, so I hope it really was her choice.

I think I remember Scottie and Tori tried it and both of them said they can't do that to Adam. And when they redid the third rail in the first episode of season 3, they used the same electrical device for the electric fence and Kari tried it. Supposedly the creator of the show pushed for it but that it's own controversy in itself.

I want to ask about the rotting body in the car myth. The myth was that no matter how hard you clean it, you can't get the stink out, and you guys absolutely proved that right. But then you declared the myth "busted". It's one of the most baffling, nigh on infuriating things in the show.

@Werewolf_Korra Yeah that's what I meant, the car in show, so the myth you could not sell a car that stinks, is busted, since they could sell it... am I missing something?

    • @Merennulli
      @Merennulli 5 місяців тому

The myth was 3 parts -
      1. Could it ruin the interior, which was confirmed
      2. Could the smell be unremovable, which was confirmed
      3. Could the smell prevent it from being sold, which was busted
The reason the end was "busted" was because the myth required all 3 parts to be confirmed. The myth passed 2 of the 3 criteria but didn't pass all of them so as a whole was busted.
