Yung Lean returns to the spotlight following his last album in 2018, Poison Ivy, and his critically acclaimed (and my personal favorite) album in 2017, Strangers. Seeing how he has become more and more artistically ambitious and creative with each release of his, it's no surprise that this album sounds incredibly intricate, ahead of its time and extremely well put together.
Thematically, there isn't an exact and obvious theme as there was in "Stranger" rather Lean speaks on a variety of things that has embodied his music for quite awhile now but perhaps with a more mature perspective. Lyrics concerning his blow up to fame, his wealth, drugs and reputation are heavily referenced in several songs. However what caught my attention the most were lyrics that seemed to be the aftermath of a failed relationship. Specifically in "Outta My Head" Lean rap-sings about a toxic relationship that he finds himself in and is trying his hardest to move on and forget about the woman he is in a relationship with. In the album-titled song "Starz" we find Lean reminiscing about a lost love in the raw and intimate way that we know him for. Yung Lean really brought his "Sad Boy" A-game out on this project.
Lyrically, Lean comes through again to illustrate emotions, his influential status, life highs and lows in the abstract but culturally in tune writing that we know and love him for. Not only has his songwriting gotten better but his flows have become catchier too. Even though his signature "monotone" and "stale" flow is something that he made work for himself, it was nice to hear him switch his style and delivery throughout this project. Coupled with the aggressive and creative raps on this project are several songs where we hear Lean singing his heart out which results in a very raw and tender performance which may at first clash against the "perfect" melody of the instrumental but I soon found that the contrast between the vocals and the production fits well in the bigger picture of the song and project. While Lean does not possess the voice of an angel by any means, the rawness and dedication that he showcases only adds to the song's melancholic message and the project's overall aesthetic. The best example of this is in the album's closer "Put Me In A Spell".
Sonically, White Armour completely outdid himself with the production on this album. The cold, atmospheric, futuristic space in sound that this album projects can really take the listener out of their element while listening to this body of work. Every song on here has a similar aesthetic that isn't matched in any other album, including Yung Lean's prior albums. And while every song goes hand in hand with the next, there isn't a moment on the album where you feel like the sound is becoming redundant or stale. Even within the song, the way White Armour progresses the instrumental by building up on the beat and adding random drums, melodies, chords, bass lines in the middle of an already electric instrumental is phenomenal. Each instrumental has something new and refreshing to offer to the listener. There isn't a single beat that I did not enjoy on this project.
All in all, I had very high expectations for this album and I am happy to say that these expectations were met and even exceeded. I look forward to enjoying this album more and more with each listen. Thanks for reading and watching!

This isnt an album, its an experience that u can relive over and over again.
Lean said his worst acid trip was when he saw a guy that had crashed his motorcycle and died while he was standing outside a 7/11
Blanceus Balncs 😮 woahh did not know that. Thanks!
Where did you see that he said this?
I believe it bro seen some shit
the dude didn't die, he said it in interview but still when u see shit like that while tripping it is wild
Cvv i think it was the montreality interview, but it might be his confessions interview as well
only here because i needed to tell everyone this album is Leans best work and its amazing
also, acid at 7/11 is about the time he was on acid at 7/11 in Canada and saw a dude that wrecked on a motorcycle and his head was cracked open
Braden Smith How do you know this? If u don’t mind me asking lol

I can tell you’re a way bigger fan than I’ve ever been but I’ve been following him on and off since I was 15 (20 now) and every album he’s dropped has never disappointed me. This album definitely made me a proper fan of his. Loved watching the reaction because that’s how I was reacting.
Gawd I had the same reaction with Starz, Hellraiser and Iceheart
couldn't stop smiling with this entire album mate, Lean is something else for real
Love seeing someone else enjoying Lean as much as me 💖

Literally felt all your emotions when I first listened too it, great video mate.
Bro keep doing your shit, you made my day. Hi from Spain.
I appreciate you not pausing every time you had something to say. That gets really annoying with other reaction videos. This is definitely leans best album imo
7:16 I FELT THAT "aw man" AND THE HEAD BOPPING TO THE START.

Ariel Pink is singing the second hook btw near the end, not lean !
my reaction to agony was a good long cry.
what a fun watch, love the vibes my guy
Agree fully with Staz, Iceheart, Pikachu being the top tracks, but Violence beats them all imo. The heavy dark synths on that track is mindblowing
Outta my head is the most complete and best written young lean song ever. Don't @ me.
respect for the amount of time put into this man, loved your reaction
you had me liking the vid at 15:40
The production is insane, it's giving me tyler the creator Igor vibes at some parts but of course with a yung lean style.
don’t compare lean to Tyler lean is way better than that
@@joseph_3401 forreal tho bruh
Dude this album is so fucking intoxicating. The production is 10/10 and lean writes more mature and thoughtful lyrics than I've heard from him. Im so addicted to this.
Edit: dogboy will grow on you bet
