- Dear David premieres October 13 in theaters and on digital.
TERROR GOES VIRAL.
Shortly after comic artist Adam (Augustus Prew) responds to Internet trolls, he begins experiencing sleep paralysis - while an empty rocking chair moves in the corner of his apartment. As he chronicles increasingly malevolent occurrences in a series of tweets, Adam begins to believe he is being haunted by the ghost of a dead child named David. Encouraged by his boss to continue the “Dear David” thread, Adam starts to lose his grip on what is online…and what is real. Based on the viral Twitter thread by BuzzFeed comic artist Adam Ellis.
The biggest shock from this trailer is that Buzzfeed is still in business
Amen to that brother.
Lmao😂
You comment almost has as many likes as the trailer
@@zachhuckchance im going to start putting "more popular than Buzzfeed" in my bios
Why don't you DIAF?
since when does "inspired by actual events" equate to "a story made up by the author" like, it was just a story he made up for twitter.
the actual events are him making it up
Damn that sucks but the movie looks fire anyways
Since always tbh
So from what I recall, the whole “Dear David” thing did actually start as a real experience! It was a like “sleep paralysis” thing that happened to Adam Ellis and it freaked him out so much that he ran with the idea as a mini horror series.
Literally tho, and he got so defensive when called out. No one asked for this and the fact now david is a twitter user 🙄
Writers strikes really giving a toll on Hollywood damn
Nah, it's just Buzzfeed being Buzzfeed and sucking
too soon crew?
this is not Hollywood, this is just wood, old, withered, dried up wood 😂
Fun fact that trailer has 22k dislikes 😂
Fun fact: this was made way before the writers strike. Do you know how long it takes to make a film?
I would've thought this trailer was a parody if it wasn't posted by BuzzFeed.
Yea
Didn't SMOSH do a video with the exact same premise as this 100% serious movie back in like, 2012?
At least SMOSH knew that the idea was a little silly, and played it entirely for laughs.
@@redzgaming6880the Twitter thread was from 2017 so no
If it were from College Humor or Comedy Central I would be laughing my ass even harder.
I’m fairly doubtful that this is based on a true story
It’s not, it’s based on a twitter thread a Buzzfeed artist did that was a bad Creepypasta.
Dude claimed it to be real for a while then said he made it up
It's not
whatever twitter says is true, must be true
its 100% real. I can confirm. I was the rocking chair 😩😔
Nothing like getting ear blasted by a trailer. Overused loud noises for the most basic horror movies. SHOCKING
But but loud noises are what makes movies scary!!! 😢😢
@@JoyDavidsonIf you use them right
Yes.
the twitter thread was actually a well put together horror story, this looks extremely corny
Yep
I really thought they would stay true to the thread. Instead they made dear David a twitter… I was really hoping for this because that thread scared me so badly back then. This just looks so corny 😭😭😭
Looks can be deceiving though
“Sometimes you gotta troll the trolls” fire line, 10/10 script writing💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
Literally 🔥🔥🔥
I can't wait for him to say "some times you gotta ghost the ghost"
Dont let him cook 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥‼️‼️
Favorite part was when he said "its trolling time" and trolled all over the place
@@SweatyFrogVR ikr I can't wait for this to come out so I can have a morbin time
I love the thought of this vengeful evil spiritual ghost child that also just casually uses twitter
makes sense
I'm kind of picturing his ghostly apparition wondering the graveyard under moonlight, head bowed, tapping away at his cellphone with his thumbs
Bro obviously it's because everyone and everything in existence uses Twitter, SMH 🙄
@@nvrmind1497 As a tree with a twitter account, this is 100% true.
I use to talk to David but then he started ghosting me :(
When your mind becomes splintered from scraping the bottom of the barrel for so long...
and immagine if that barrel was sitting in the storage unit forgotten for 6 years...
At this point they are 6 feet below the barrel, their brain has been eaten by worms.
@@a_randomuser4402 The mental image you just gave me was scarier than anything in this trailer
@@nahuelamonte9991, lol sorry about that.
@@a_randomuser4402don’t be. That was a compliment
The real horror is that Buzzfeed still exists.
My favourite part will probably be when David says "its Dearin' time" and twitter ratios the main villain, truly one of the movies of all time, congrats for making 200 buzzillion dollars
LMAOOOOO
I'm from the future. This movie is gold. One of the horror movies of all times.
My favorite moment was when David appears out of nowhere and goes "It's time to troll!" and went "It's trolling time!" and trolled all over the place. He even went "Stand back, I'm gonna troll!".
😂🤣😂😂
It was definitely a movie. I loved the part where he referenced the hit movie Morbius (2022) by saying "I'm gonna troll your stinky pinky trolololo"
One of the best movies releasing this year. Truly amazing writing especially with ''Sometimes you gotta troll the trolls'' making me shiver in true fear. What an inspiring story.
Saying this is inspired by actual events is like saying IT is inspired by actual events cause it was written by Stephen King.
Gosh yall slow
@@Reggiezombiewhat? Go ahead explain how this is inspired by actual events then LOL
@@rammyfrmnsn yes it is cause you was there babe
@@Reggiezombie brother I have no idea what you’re talking about but yes I was there. I am the monster from the stories. I am Twitter.
@@rammyfrmnsn yes you are dear
this doesn’t seem to capture the actual scariness of the twitter thread and that’s what’s most disappointing tbh
wdym, what actually happened in the thread?
@@loimoi4763 he's saying that original twitter thread of this story was far scarier than what the trailer is telling. And I agree
@@hectorteca694The Twitter thread wasn't scary at all. Especially the images, they were unintentionally funny.
@@azalago That's the point.🤣
@@azalago Dross did his work well, i guess
for everybody without the UA-cam dislike extension, there are 1.9k likes and 19K dislikes.
Ouchies.
I think the saddest part is that overall it only got around twelve thousand reactions. No one cares about Buzzfeed and the people who are laughing at it right now are either people who are actively looking to troll Buzzfeed or people who got this on their recommended by accident.
the most horrifying thing about this movie is that this guy works at buzzfeed
No wonder he's delusional
😂 exactly
His comics are actually getting way better since he quit buzzfeed
Dude quit a while ago and ended up making actually good comics.
I don’t know guys, for me, this seems like the best movie BuzzFeed ever made
How many other movies has BuzzFeed made?
Also because it’s the only movie they made
@@AquaticCoffeethe other one is One True loves
ngl, my first thoughts were this looks awesome. Which it does. I love crappy horror movies. I even like the low budget ones. There is actually some amazing horror on youtube. Especially in the shorts department. You guys want an actual treat... search for short horror and let them start getting into your feed. Sure, you will see some stinkers, but you also see some extraordinary ones. I'd even wager that 99% of the short horror vids on YT are better than this movie. I'm also certain 50-100mg of edibles and it's gonna be funny AF.
This is based off a twitter thread that happened 6 years ago
which was all made up
you've never worked at buzzfeed if you never made a "why I left buzzfeed" video
The only thing scarier than this would be actual working at Buzzfeed
I'm pretty sure people who were even interested in dear David have all grown up, so Buzzfeed is making a movie with no audience.
Never mind reading the comments made me see that their is surprisingly still a small audience that wanted to see a dear David movie after 6 years.
@@pgrhellowman1200, nah they’re either alt accounts from people who work at Buzzfeed, bots, or just people who feel pity. It’s like looking at a roach dying, I don’t like them but I don’t want them to suffer either.
"Sometimes you gotta troll the trolls."
~Winston Churchill
It’s trolling time
The BuzzFeed Studios screen is the biggest jumpscare. It got my heart pumping.
The scariest thing about this movie is it shows buzzfeed is still in business
Call me crazy, but I don't think this actually follows what happened in the Dear David Twitter Saga
I agree! It’s not true to the real story 😩
If they kept it simple and followed the story, expanded it without going crazy like they have, it could've been good and creepy. Like those Robert The Doll movies. They all fail by turning it into a Child's Play/Chucky rip off when the original story is interesting enough. Here they turned Dear David into a Conjuring movie.
It's official, Hollywood is creatively bankrupt.
And buzz feed is making it have you 1up
this ain't Hollywood 😂
Thats what happens when writers go on strike
@@insantic2197 it's not even that it's buzzfeed in general
even considering union strikes, declining returns, and all kinds of abuses, i think the fact that a feature film was developed, adapted and produced from a series of Adam Ellis tweets is the most definitive evidence that the film industry is DOA. nuke it, wipe it off the map. movies had a good run.
this was developed 2 years ago. the strikes didn’t affect this. someone sat down, read the idea, and greenlit it
can’t wait to see all these empty theaters. buzz feed on a roll
A dear david movie would be good if it was made by people who actually know what their doing
The funniest part is that Adam Ellis got better at comics again after buzzfeed and is now working on a horror anthology.
From a Twitter thread of years ago... So will the people that posted on the thread for the ideas get their fair share and get paid?
Idk if I'm gonna like this, I mean I understand they have to dramatize for the movie but the real story is just creepy on its own without all the extra
What’s the real story
Yeah I agree, the original story and pictures are super creepy
WHAT'S THE REAL STORY?
...You mean the ARG???
What's the real story???
"since you joined buzzfeed your art got super lame"
If you're an artist hired by Buzzfeed your art is already super lame
I feel so bad for who wrote this story
If this doesn’t put buzzfeed in the grave, I don’t know what will.
guys watch out for david because this is truly inspired by actual events 💀
🥲
the true, fully proven events of the writer making it all up
…”Based on an untrue story”
Charlie is possibly the only reason why this movie will gain any viewership.
This may just kill cinema💀
THE CROWD GOES MILD 🔥
😂😂
This encapsulates buzz feed pretty well lmao
That was terrifying. People should put a warning label on it. BuzzFeed Studios still exists? Zombies are real, people!
Is this a comedy or a horror movie? I can't really tell.
So let me get this straight, it's all about a troll who gets trolled and then says "Sometimes you gotta troll the trolls" Then instead of trolling the trolls, He gets trolled by a troll. Seems like a Certified BuzzFeed moment.
This is truly the greatest horror movie ever made, it will change the genre forever. A true masterpiece of it's class
Praying that buzzfeed doesn’t create the “twitter ARG cinematic universe” after this releases
That doesn't sound like a bad idea. It could probably destroy Hollywood once for all, which is nice.
@@thehyperion5333 if a tsv movie happens next it better be made by A24 instead of buzzfeed
Okay, but will Adam’s cats make an appearance? They were the true stars of the thread.
This reminds me of a college humor sketch that would be posted years ago but this is actually real…
This trailer literally feels like it is 30 minutes long. Too bad I can't get the two minutes of my life back LOL
No matter how much of a horror my life is, buzzfeed will be more scary.
1.5k likes vs 14k dislikes. *A liiiiiiiiiittle bit of faith on humanity has been restored.*
It baffles me how somehow working for Buzzfeed believed in the "Dear David" stuff and thought this was a good idea and labelled it as "Inspired by actual events"
That like/view ratio is crazy
How did you get actors and writers for this given that Hollywood is effectively shut down?
it was written and filmed before the strike(s).
Ai
writers? this movie has none 😂
A movie is done filming like a year before you see a trailer.
I think the 4 people that work at buzzfeed are the writers and actors
gotta be real brave to keep the comments on
also who’s here from Moist’s video?
inspired by actual events.... the part where someone trolled someone. The rest is a result of a bad trip.
Dude I remember reading this back on Twitter forever ago. I can’t believe they actually finally made this movie. I’m so fuckin excited !!!!
I am pretty shocked to see this movie actually get made, i thought it was cancelled.
I can't believe this actually got made, lol I remember seeing the tweet compellation articles.
This already looks like one of the movies of all time.
anything and anyone buzzfeed touches becomes as good as this movie trailer :/
this is truly gonna be one of the movies of all time
This movie is so out of touch, so it's fitting that Buzzfeed made it.
Based on a webcomic artist's social experiment.
Damn, Charlie wasn’t kidding 😂
Chatgpt working overtime for this one
:( I waited 4 years for this to be made into a movie and they just completely ruined the real plot… agh- really disappointed, didn’t need all the extra fluff the simplicity of the story is scary enough-
It's accurate.
Agree :(
I’d run into a burning building to “DIAF” if I had to work at Buzzfeed
Damn, this looks awful.
The monster is just the average buzzfeed employee after being told a mean comment on twitter
Last time i heard about buzzfeed was around 2016-2017, maybe they are actually stuck in 2016 time loop that they can't escape.
Who really knows.
Isn't the boy supposed to be younger??? Wth
This is nothing like the Twitter thread and it looks C rate at best ...
I've been following this thread since I was in high school and I can honestly say I have never been more excited for a horror movie - to those who haven't it's definitely worth checking out the threads...
And again Lord Wick sends me to another cesspool that I forgot existed as usual
The budget is at least 12 dollars give or take
BUT WHERE ARE THE CATS
No way you put TERROR GOES VIRAL in your description
20 million views. Only 1500 likes. Incredible.
David isn't actually a demon, he's an angel of vengeance sent by God to punish Adam Ellis for his terrible comics and horrible opinions.
The scariest thing is how Buzzfeed literally self inserted into a "horror" film haha
I was an extra on this film. The mandatory BJs were not a sustainable business practice
Why is this trailer less scary than the actual story. Maybe because it been a few years but following that in highschool terrified me!
This is the movie I've ever seen!
1:13 LMFAO 😂😂😂
This is gonna be one of the movies of all time
"Inspired by true tweets".
This is gonna crash and burn laughably.
They could have taken video footage of grass growing, added flickering effects, cuts, and loud sounds and made it more scary.
How to sell a movie: slap a "based on true events" tag on it. Probably be on the movie poster too.
Twitter users either dox you or Cancel you, But sometimes... you gotta troll the trolls.
Oscar worthy 100000%
It's shocking that BuzzFeed still exist... maybe the failure of this "movie" will kill them
There's a New Zealand horror movie about a haunted recliner chair called KILLER SOFA. Go watch that instead, the name alone tells you all you need to know.
Genuinely thought y’all had gone out of business😂
I’ve heard of this story,it chilled me to my core, this will be terrifying for sure😮
I'm at the edge of my seat waiting for this banger to come out 😮😮😮😮
imagine greenlighting this
Spiderverse is quivering in fear after seeing this trailer
