I'm going to show my age a little bit here. Back in the 70's, it became a fad to take our "naturally" distressed jeans and make these kinds of skirts out of them. The more they were patched, the better. Lol! Each skirt was different depending on the kind of patches the wearer chose and where they were worn out. Needless to say, no two were ever alike. Some had patches on top of patches.

Amen Janet! Mine used to be really long and drag on the ground, my mom used to hate it, but I wanted the bottom to get really and truly “naturally” frayed.
The ‘60’s and ‘ 19:18 70’s was a fun time to grow up!

When I was in grade 8, 70's I turned my jeans into this denim skirt. I added a piece of trim to lengthen the skirt. It looked like 60's vibe. I got so many compliments. Imagine my face decades later when I saw high-end fashion designer doing this.

    Godet is French, pronounced
(ga' day)....Yes, also showing my age...made plenty of these70's -80's with appliqued African motif designs sewn onto the patched front w/ matching denim/leather purses.
However, very clear video instruction & your audio is excellent. Keep stitching, Peace!

I love this video. My mother could make anything. She made all her and my father's clothes when they first married because they were so poor. She made all her own drapes, re-upholstered all the furniture, she could crochet and knit. I never learned from her to do all of that and now she is gone. I'm so mad at myself. I didn't learn from her but I'm going to learn all I can from you. Thank you for making these videos. ❤

Made these in college in the 70’s. Really worn jeans were turned into cut offs. When you’re poor you find a way to recycle, I used embroidery to cover stains and/or holes. We also used cotton print from BF shirt to use as the godets. And sometimes added them as gores in side seams to give more movement.

Oh my! When I was in college way back in the day!!!, I made money making bell bottoms (insert triangles into the side seams). Then I made my kids denim quilts for college. Now onto grandkids!! One tool: Electric scissors! Glides right along seam like a hot knife through butter. And when my first one died I had a replacement express shipped. Saved everything. Bags of seams, belt loops etc, I still have a box of pockets from when boys were toddlers.. Opening that, it looks like a fashion museum. Thanks!

I enjoyed your video, it was extremely informative. I'm looking forward to trying this. It brought back a lot of memories. My Mother was a quilter. She and a few of the ladies in the neighborhood would gather two or three times a week and make beautiful quilts For quick heavy winter quilts for our personal use, she would take my Father's old jeans and make what she called "Winter Quilts." They were not fancy, but certainly warm and cozy during those cold winter months.

Denim maxi skirts (any maxi skirts period) are living their best life right now. I love the idea of the maxi skirts and have a few but realize that I have not worn them because most of the time I am on task (hands full/moving swiftly about) and they are a fall/trip risk for me. I realize this, so I did make an effort to wear a white windbreaker material maxi skirt I just thrifted, to handle some paperwork for my mom (hang out with her) at temporary facility she is at, just yesterday. It was so comfy! This was a great tutorial on making your own denim maxi skirt, and it really looks great on you. The maxi skirts are living their best life right now. I have thrifted some plain maxi straight line pencil skirts with kick split in back (plan to wear back to front sometime) because I have seen them on some of my favorite influencers and I like the looks they achieved. This my first time watching one of your videos it came as a suggestion while I was watching my fav DIYer Blueprintdiy (Angelina) upcycling thrifted jeans to a statement maxi skirt. I enjoyed this video and just going to subscribe based on this one because I don't have time to binge watch your channel at the moment. Thanks for sharing and blessings to you and all in the days to come.
