Saylor and you are rare breeds of boomers living in the analog world yet embracing the powerful opportunities of the digital world. Congrats on being so open-minded and taking action!
Gen X here. I’ve been in Bitcoin for about 4 years. It has changed my families life. Im optimistic for the younger generations. I hope they can learn from the mistakes of past generations and move us forward in a passive direction. BTW, thank you for keeping the bots out of the comments❤
I am a Boomer and 64 years old now, but I have adopted the digital age very well and with a lot of fun. I am now also a HODLER of a nice portion of BTC and am looking forward to an exciting rest of my life. 🤗
Owning Bitcoin and running a full node to me feels more and more like an obligation and responsibility, simply because I know this way I am part of the solution and not the problem in this still largely f***ed up world. No to mention my children that will desperately need some sats in the future... Thank you for another inspiring episode, Bram.
I'm a Boomer, 1960 the tail end of the boomers, I had a lot of shedding old ways. I was all hard to do, I got swept along kicking and screaming... Until Bitcoin. Scared yes, but more scared not to. I buy when I can Up, Down or Sideways.
You guys do realize that there's an entire generation called gen x, right? It's so weird that you had a whole conversation about boomers being analogue, then talked about how millennials are, and zoomers are digital, but failed to mention that we gen xers are the ones who built the digital. Gen x also gave birth to the millennials. We in gen x have tended to be so quiet about it all because the old tradfi economic and political systems were still working for us as we worked on building the digital world, so we didn't have much to complain about.
Boomers birthed the millennial generation for the most part. Gen X was the zoomers The Boomers also built the digital world for the most part - think Gates, Jobs, Bezos, etc. Gen X is mostly forgot/not talked about because they are simply pale in comparison to the number of Boomers and Millenials
Gen X gave us incredible (mostly underground) art scenes, across many mediums and genres. Outside of that, it’s mostly a generation who traded youthful anarchistic ideals for political and ideological conformity.
Something I really admire about Hodl is his memory recall and ability to explain complex ideas on-the-fly on these podcasts in very well articulated everyday terms sprinkling in big words in a non-patronizing way. It's quite nice to listen to. He's undeniably got a high IQ but I hope some of the above is also something I can work towards by growing my stack and creating calming everyday freedom for myself. I feel that living entirely in the fiat world up until recently has fried my brain's ability to articulate in this manner. No doubt regular everyday meditation to clear my mind would help too. All this to say great podcast as usual Bram! Listening to Hodl always gives me lots to think about.
Braum, how about having a 60’s + guy on talking about BTC and Millennials and how one day when you’re older BTC changes your life. Views from an older OG.
Having a child has given me meaning and changed how I see the world, but it's also the first time in my life that I feel financially poor (although I am now rich in love). And that is also what has pushed me into Bitcoin after many years sitting on the fence. This matters now.
Bram and HODL pod has been one of the best podcasts in past couple years. And I’ve listened to a LOT from all the best. Unscripted is the way boys. Great job
Took 200mcg 🍄 on an empty stomach 45 mins prior to listening and found this to be the greatest podcast I’ve ever listened to. Thanks, boys. Also, after years of listening - I have finally subbed. The effect of Bitcoin on the real estate market will be , imho , the biggest light bulb moment in our lifetime. Can you imagine what will happen when Bitcoin is reported as the reason for the property crash. 💥
Great episode! Really good discussion and some very insightful points raised, well done! Gen X is actually the bridge generation between analog / digital age. We came up at the birth of the PC and Silicon Valley. Our parents were 'the greatest generation' and the boomers, and we were the parents of the millennials. What's funny about Gen X and Bitcoin, imo, is that it's really split between those stuck in tradfi hamster wheel and those that saw bitcoin early. Saylor is Gen X. Bram - you're killing it! Keep it up!
If people without kids contribute to society and humankind in other ways as teachers or helping people in need. I think that’s also a way of giving your life meaning and surrounding yourself with young people.
You speak out of my ❤. Crying for that important deep talk. I found my way living nearby the system, 26 years ago and bitcoin is the best i can invest now. For the future, for my 3 children. Thank you for your mindblowing interview. Good job! Very good job! ✨☀️🚀🔥
People are comfortable with digging in a false sense of security... it's comfy coz everybody else around them is doing that... the orange pill very scary then....
I'm a man and gay. I can't have kids. I don't want kids. I would be a bad father. I'd resent them in a way for taking priority over my personal ambitions and research. I don't think you can say children are for everyone. I have had the displeasure of being around parents who shouldn't have children. Not everyone should have children. Also, children are not the point of life. What you chose for your life is the point.
ENFP mofos and can confirm did come late class of 22 which I know isn’t a cycle start but we don’t all start at the peak. Cool discussion always great to hear from hodl.
I was enjoying Microbrews in the 90’s, and I think craft beer was spearheaded by Gen X’ers 💪 as early as the 80’s (see Sierra Nevada) and full force with 500 microbrew companies by 1994 Look up the McMenamin brothers in Oregon and the legal shifts they pushed along with opening microbreweries with attached restaurants and serving food and beer during movies in renovated movie theaters. Anyway, it was way before the 2000’s😁 Just sayin’ 😅from one Gen x’er to some millennial bitcoiners. Peace✌️ Oh, and I appreciate the exhortation to stack sats as hard as possible right now. Broke Single mama, stuck in a foreign country, no help, but anything I can squirrel away goes to Bitcoin. I’m trying to build online income and first thing imma do is get more Bitcoin.👍
Regarding the choice to have children, Is it better to have to be taken care of in old age by your relatives than by paid caretakers? I don't want my loved ones to have to deal with me when I'm old and incapable. We all die alone. The only thing that will be there for you is your wealth...in this case, your bitcoin.
Imagine choosing to have children so that you don't 'die alone'. Unfortunately (for the kids) that's one of the most common reason that many choose to have kids. Yet these are the same people who call those who choose not to have kids 'selfish'.
I’m a 70 year-old Baby Boomer that owns Bitcoin. I played music, to my sequenced backing tracks, in bars; and I was recording music (my own, and other people’s for money) into a Mac when junior here was still needing his diapers changed. I just bought a Mac Mini and I’ll be using it to set up my digital wallets. - Lose the condescending attitude!
I know what it's like, not having children, is not easy; I keep thinking God has other plans for me; I have to keep thinking that ! HODL it's true, seeing my world fall apart, get sick and die is so hard to do. I do try to impart the wisdom I've gained.
Yes having babies interrupts the search for meaning for a while…then those babies grow up and start their search for meaning…what gave meaning moves on…so you have the choice of clinging sentimentally or returning to your your search where you left off before you had children…maybe what always seeking isn’t transient so never born and has no form…is neither analogue or digital.🐇
