Another great video. The fact that he became so well paid because he just tried to avoid writing the character is hilarious to me. I just imagine his shock at the numbers people were willing to pay for material and legend says it can extend your life by five minutes.
Just when I thought "Well, I'm 31 years old now, I can finally call myself a respectable, boring adult." - this elegant , highbrow young lady puts on a fake mustache and has me laughing way harder than I hoped I would. Dang.
I recently read The Devil And The Dark Water, fantastic period crime novel in the vein of Sherlock Holmes but with a much darker grittier feel. Worth a read.
I can't resist beginning by saying that when Jinzee publishes a new video, you don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to deduce that it's going to be excellent! :) Famous and beloved characters often have an interesting backstory, usually relating to the author behind the character, and Sherlock Holmes is of course no exception. Another example would be Perry Mason, created by Erle Stanley Gardner, who before becoming a full-time writer was himself a lawyer who was known to occasionally employ unorthodox tactics both in and out of the courtroom. But the Doyle/Holmes tale is much more complicated and interesting. I knew a little about Doyle prior to this video, but you provided a very complete factual background as well as the usual brilliant analysis of those facts. The tie-ins to other detective characters was something I didn't know about at all, and that was fascinating to learn. With the facts and analysis complemented by another set of amazing skits, brilliant as always in both writing and acting, it all made for another great video experience that is uniquely Jinzee! Thanks for once again increasing our knowledge in your own very entertaining way!
What an oddly topical video, I’ve been rewatching the Jeremy Brett/Granada Sherlock Holmes series all week. Two episodes a day. Thank you for a wonderful companion piece to my binge watching lol.
@Proper Bird, I’m infinitely curious now. What is your favorite interpretation of Holmes? Also, do you have a preference for Poirot or Mrs. Marple adaptations?
It can't be overstated that coming from an upper class family in the largest empire in the wolrd, and publishing for a class of wealthy nobles throughout said empire, who could subsequently afford to mass publish those works in a profitable way for the midling class-- that can really help the reach of your writing. Edit: which you basically just said lmao
Doyle seemed like an intelligent man. But he had a sacred cow which was spiritualism, that his intelligence did not allow him to really investigate critically and he so wanted it to be true. All the ingredients for classic textbook confirmation bias were present and then it was game over at that point. Doyle would look for information that would confirm spiritualism but ignore information that would disconfirm it.
Your wardrobe and funny antics just keep getting better 😁 also you should totally use that pipe more, even if it has zero bearing on your video topic, it's just a great addition 😆
I finally caught up on your videos! \o/ I'm loving the new direction and new content. The skits are hilarious! I was really into Sherlock Holmes as a kid but have kinda stopped following new stuff once I'd gotten through the original stories. It kinda feels like Doyle's heart wasn't really in it after he brought him back.
Another very entertaining and informative video, thank you for your hard work. Curious to know what you think of Jonny Lee Millers adaptaion of Sherlock Holmes in Elementary?
As of now, my new found respect & love goes to Moriarty instead with the newly recent anime Moriarty The Patriot. It's quite interesting "Sherlock Holmes" verse anime that tells the story mainly from the POVs of William James Moriarty, instead of the typical detective protag like Sherlock.
I've first heard a radio play of The Hound of the Baskervilles. I loved it. Then I read the book. I loved it still. II got a DVD of a Soviet adaptation of Study in Scarlet and The Speckled Band. I loved them too. A few years later, BBC's Sherlock came around. I loved it (except for the disappointing Hounds of Baskerville)...until the weird 3rd season and atrocious 4th one. Now I'm binge-watching the Granada series. After being disappointed with their version of The Hound of Baskervilles, I'm trying the Basil Rathbone version. It's not that accurate, but it can pass. However, Arthur Wontner WAS the living illustration of Holmes. Too bad they didn't bother with period appropriate costumes, hair and all. And now...when the algorithm recommends me a video that is just a day old...that tells me I need to stop being obsessed about finding the *perfect* Hound of the Baskervilles, when I'm happy to have the *perfect* Holmes. Thank you, Jeremy Brett.
Because he is in public domain and anybody can have a go at portraying him. Some of those portrayals are bound to be successful. Thank you for your video.
"Why is Sherlock Holmes so popular over any other detective?" Do you want a guy in winged mammal regalia holding you upside down and screaming at you "SWEAR TO ME!" Because that's how you get a guy in winged mammal regalia holding you upside down and screaming at you "SWEAR TO ME!" BTW, your back must hurt from carrying UA-cam content so hard. Keep it up Jinzee!
Most of my audience is lovely but there are plenty that only go by title. Honestly, I don't generally mind. Every comment boosts my video in the algorithm, I just don't take the time to reply when they make it obvious. :p
22:20 *Sherlock Bones!*
Man, Marleybone was an awesome world to play in.... I miss the old days of Wizard101
I really like this style of content. Hope you continue.(no pressure tho)
I intend to!

I love your fashion sense. Unrelated to the video of course which is excellent as always.
The best Holmes is portrayed by Data, CMV.
I rate this video 11/10. Perfect bite-size, magnificent role playing and my cat seems to enjoy listening to it as well!
I absolutely love the mini skits.
Love your videos. Hope we could see sometime again witcher videos.
You'll enjoy December. ^^
As Sherlock Holmes is the quintessential detective, so too is Proper Bird the epitome of storytellers. Great Video!

Thank you so much for your wonderful work. It is nice to see someone how shares the passion for both witcher and sherkock :)
@@dominikschwarzer9208 I think you intended this comment for the video and not under my comment.
My introduction to Holmes was the show "Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century". I saw it as a kid.
...interesting show.
hahaha, I know that cartoon show too. Definitely one of the most bizarre & unique iteration of Sherlick Homes stories.

Awesome video
How dare Artur Conan Doyle kill off a book character I like?! This is way worse than his defense of concentration camps during the Boer War!!!

I appreciate that. ❤️

Afraid not, it's a lot harder to get into than people might think. ^^
