Equity release scheme, a friend of mine looked into doing this her house is valued at £195,000 they offered her £16,000 max...I don't think anyone is dumb enough to do that FGS
Hold on. Did she just refer to people approaching 50 as close to retirement age? Approaching 50 means they have 20 years left to work. Or was Carol just fortunate enough to have been able to retire at 50?
All the young people complaining about house prices and pensions. Younger people tend to vote for left wing governments. Blair flooded the country causing house prices to sky rocket , causing a housing issue. Money then had to be spent on services for these people. Pensions were raided. The gold was sold. Before Blair people had worked and saved all their lives to buy their property and build their pensions. This pillock needs to realise that he and his ilk voted for the situation he is now in. He has no idea how pensions work either. Private pensions are down to the individual and if they save enough they will receive a decent income .....from THEIR OWN INVESTMENT. State pension is different. I work and a part of my deductions goes into a pot which pays for the retired. When i retire , the people younger than me will pay for me. When Baldrick on here retires , he will receive the same benefit. Thats how it works. Or he can go and live in a socialist country and work until he dies , and receive nothing. His choice . He wont be missed.
Majority of this country isn't young. You think the last 14 years of tory rule is to blame pn young people? Problem is the majority of the electorate such as yourself has been brainwashed by media such as the scum newspaper into dsspising policies that would be beneficial to working class people because "socialism is bad". Least we agree rhat this country will most probably become a 3rd dump but your failure to realise the brainwashing of rhe older electodate whixh has gotten us into this mess is why things won't improve.
His argument doesn't work what happens to someone who has lived in a rented property be it council or private when they retire they have nothing to sell or release equity on they will go straight on state pension?
50% of pensioners are living in properties worth over 1 million pounds. That's it, Carol, just shout over the man who is making sense. She's like a living Daily Mail.
Yeah I dont believe that. Maybe I dont believe it because in all the places I've lived, most pensioners are living in little council houses or bungalows.
Yep, just because you're old doesn't mean you should have zero responsibility with your life. Down size, release equity all totally justifiable solutions. Maybe young people would be able to afford houses then as well as the old people wouldn't be hanging onto them while the house crumbles around them!
This fool talking about equity release schemes being regulated?? My old mum got one of these schemes and got £40,000 when she eventually plucked up the courage to tell the family (10 months later) we decided to buy her home back for her!! ,The amount we were told was £95,000 and this was from a very well regarded and respected insurance company the ombudsman said legally they had broke no rules and unfortunately there are no rules for bad morals🤷♂️🤷♂️
Yeah we sure did!! Why are the old and disabled being targeted after paying all there lifes?? As for having it easy in the 70's we had 15%interest rates,3 day working week and only paid for 3 days no benefit back up no minimum wage the boss could sack you if they didn't like the shape of your head the unions running amock couldn't buy bread, bury your dead, piles of rubbish strewn streets and all because of strikes and the great crescendo the winter of discontent wow what an easy time we had!! Bloody hall todays generation would kill themselves if th WiFi was taken away from them everytnight due to power cuts again controlled by the unions as an I'll show you get a grip
@hia07gfh ain't it amazing that I'm expected to show empathy to these youngsters but can't defend older people for constant attacks from the very same people who seem to deem us all as a drain and become a nuisance to the same society,I do feel empathy for the youngsters but we didn't cause the problem so why keep attacking us and don't expect a kickback 🤷♂️🤷♂️
You had 15% interest with a mortgage to income ratio of 2.5. Today the interest is far lower, but we have a mortgage to income ratio of 4.5. People today have to work nearly double what you did in the 70s to be able to afford a house. To even get on the property ladder these days, you have hope that when a family member dies they leave you something to be able to afford a deposit. It's you that needs to get a grip.
@captainanorach I'm not dismissing the fact that it's difficult for youngsters to get on the property ladder the comment was about the constant attacks about how easy we had it!! Every generation faces hard times so please stop attacking us oldies and regardless of interest rates house prices were proportionate to wages and tou could only borrow 75% you had to work bloody hard and save to find the other 25%
@@NeilClark-j4l Personally, I wouldn't want to dismiss any struggles or hardship someone had, regardless of generation. But my initial comment was about you referring to young people as being suicidal over a lack of WiFi connection. That's an unnecessary and unhelpful comment. I can understand how you might feel attacked but you must have seen countless headlines stating Millennials/Gen Z to blame for xyz. You're not the only one feeling attacked. Those trying to get onto the housing ladder have a huge uphill struggle. The comments @captainanorach have made are valid but I'd add the current cost of living crisis only compounds things further. And in terms of empathy, yes I would expect that of you. If someone has lived through a difficult period and has come out the other side I would expect them to show empathy to others facing a similar struggle.

If Labour would not have raided the pension, it would be much higher and pensioners would be betrer off.
I help my mum out. She doesn't get a full state pension and very small work pension. She raised four kids free of charge.
Knobhead is deluded, most boomers did not have fsp's.
All I can say is, this guy will be pension age before he knows it, bet he doesn't fancy giving up everything he worked for then!
So because they got more because they worked all there lives and saved .
You want them to go down to your level of working 35hrs week .
And low pay
Hold on. Did she just refer to people approaching 50 as close to retirement age? Approaching 50 means they have 20 years left to work. Or was Carol just fortunate enough to have been able to retire at 50?
Wish she’d retire her gob.

We have paid in to our stat pensions and deserve it.
Yes it's not a benefit we've paid into it for years.
Hey boomers 😂😂😂.We are the harders generation of workers. Hes a nutter.
His argument doesn't work what happens to someone who has lived in a rented property be it council or private when they retire they have nothing to sell or release equity on they will go straight on state pension?

Utter rubbish.. Where did you pull that from?
Yeah I dont believe that. Maybe I dont believe it because in all the places I've lived, most pensioners are living in little council houses or bungalows.
Absolute tosh, it doesn’t take much examination of reality to see this isn’t so.
Yeah of course they are 😂
I'd be interested as to where that stat came from.
Storm is like visual velvet or silk, she's so lovely to behold.
That man has not go a clue what hebis talking about.
Caller is right. Malone is one of the stupidest people on tv.

Shut up you elders after the war had the best lives

If it was so awful why can't you find some empathy for young people rather than coming up with some nonsense comment about WiFi?
