    Thanks for the helpful videos, I used your build video and ignored your hint on taking tip of the aerial, you were right, the first time I looked down the battery compartment I stabbed my eye. Luckily I wear contact lenses so no injury, but I rounded it off after that. I am retired and took up this hobby after a twenty five year gap. Used to fly petrol planes that took weeks to build, so this is much easier.
    This is my third plane. Tought myself to fly again on dynam Piper cub which is still in one piece after a few replacement undercarriages, then added a dynam Waco which flies perfectly....love it. The dynam spit is my third plane and much more of a handful, even with landing gear raked forward I can not stop tipping over on grass, but tarmac road is no problem. Still nervous as hell every time I fly it.... hoping I will get better.
    Thanks again for your helpful advice. Andy in Scotland.

    Size is good. Not too small, not too big. It flies great as well. Nice flying Andrew 😄👍

    Nice Video again Andrew, Thank you for your effort of making them and putting them on the net. I hope you nail that landing soon

    • @AndrewNewton

      Might stick to belly landing until the ground hardens up.

      Just watch out you do not snap a blade off the prop, I lost 1 to day with an old trainer. front wheel dig into the soft sand and the prop hit the hard grass...

    Just got one mine is Grey and Green with a 4 blade prop - but my goodness I wish someone had said something about the panel lines - they are so deep you could film starwars in them

    Glad you had a good day, most war birds that are tail draggers can tend to noise over, I tend to let my Spit, Hurricane, Mosquito and Lancaster low to the ground, 3/4 ft, and let the airspeed bleed off, then when they touch terra firma apply back elevator, most times. not all, they behave, I only fly on grass, no runway at our club.

    Congrats on a successful maiden flight, I have a Dynam Devil Biplane and I love it! It has the same troubles on grass runways but it is caused by it's fancy wheel pants. Dynam makes some nice planes.

    I have the earlier Mk24 Spitfire but I just find them a bit small for my old eyes and so, perhaps do you after your little almost whoopsie near the start :) I also found that one of the problems with multiblade props is that if you should nose over on landing then there's always a blade ready to be broken when one gets pushed away. It doesn't help that we fly off a tarmac runway (usually a good thing, especially in winter).
    There does seem to be a lot more room in this than the HK Mk 24. There's no way I could have fitted current sensor telemetry in that one. Perhaps the extra 100mm wingspan helps.
    I like your green carpet (portable?) runway. A great solution to a soggy winter field. Have fun with your Spit

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  8 років тому

      Haha, yes I think you're right. My eyes are not as sharp these days. I looked down to locate the trim button for just a bit too long. I was lucky

  • @krang07
    @krang07 8 років тому

    If it were me, I might try and extend that runway somehow if only laying down some long strips of plywood or something. but getting it all flat and even could be a bit of a chore not to mention permission with whomever owns that tract of land to do something like that.

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  8 років тому

      Well it's a cricket pitch at a sporting ground so extensions are out of the question. Just have to belly land I think.

    • @krang07
      @krang07 8 років тому

      Ya, I suppose if and when the wind might be the right speed and direction you might get a good soft landing on the cricket pitch area.

      +Andrew Newton yea they do look mint in the air, but tbh I'm loving the flying wings. I've got stuck with them & in a "Happy place" ragging the nuts off them every time I go flying :)

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  8 років тому +1

      "Ragging the nuts" This strange SW English dialect takes some deciphering. Most amusing.

    ALL dynam planes do that on grass... :( The only ones i hve owned that dont do that are the Dynam Meteor v2 and the T28 pretty much any tri landing gear plane. You should try the Fw190... 1.4 meter. On 4s she flies like a dream.!

    What do prefer flying these days - planes you've designed and built from foam or purchased aircraft?

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  8 років тому +1

      My own designs by far. These review planes just don't have the character and personal investment for me. Problem is I'm not getting much time for anything apart from building and maidening.
