He threatened the judge and was held for contempt yet when he came back the Judge still had leniency on him and gave him credit for time served. That just shows how truly incredible this guy is, there needs to be more Judges like this.

tolerance over the pathetic situations is highly appreciated by the judge's decision. So he is more than a legal judge but he is a real GURU to the society
Very calm polite intellectual compassion truthful honest judge ever seen
Went to court in Providence a couple years ago for a speeding ticket that ended up being dismissed and actually got to meet Judge Carpio, he was one of the most well spoken and well mannered people I have ever met. Great during this case and all others I've seen, just a true, fair, and upstanding individual.

Same, I took a right on a yellow (the camera didn't show the light) as I turned onto Broadway. He Dismissed it, but I still had to take a day out of work to go there, and now Providence is putting even more camera's up...

RONI you can’t make the assumption it’s meds. When I was in jail I saw people come in there all pissed and thinking they knew everything. Then a couple days in they are a whole new person. 21 days in jail will definitely change your outlook.

I didn't see that at all. I saw a judge, who couldn't identify that a mentally disabled or learning disabled adult was frustrated, and sat there and acted very smug and did nothing to help resolve the situation.

I would say when he does lose it he is very upset specially a Italian.Most of those that don't get upset often are the worst upset ones when it happens but a great hearted judge.

Great attitude and response shown by the judge ... this is a classic example of how people get into serious trouble within seconds and later regret on it for the rest of their lives.
I absolutely love how calm Judge Caprio remained. He never once raised his voice and continued to conduct himself with his usual tact and professionalism.

The patience and restraint of the judge was amazing
The judge holds all the cards, and knows it. I'm surprised that the court room tolerated it. In my backwoods city, he would have been bodily removed., even if it took volunteers to do it. That guy was so out of line.

I think a mental health assessment of the double jeopardy man would have been a correct decision. Regardless, this judge is a top man.
I may be wrong but the judge was overseeing municipal court and it would've needed to be a criminal court proceeding to order a psych eval. I could be wrong but i don't think so.

Was he mentally ill or impaired. That would make a difference
The judge has no power to do that, only in particular types of criminal cases can that be ordered, and only when it's in favor of the defendant and at their own free will. When non-violent, no one can force any medical evaluation onto someone who still has to volition to say no to it.
Correct it’s a great idea, however a judge cannot order that. The judge clearly saw he was a danger to himself and others and at least charged him with contempt of court which will get him locked up and at least keep him stable until he can receive proper treatment.

What's really sad is Caprio is a judge one can talk to, and if you use common sense and politeness he will work with you in human way. Once represented someone there and seen it firsthand.

Because the guy could have just walked out of there a free man that day, but he ran his mouth and was disrespectful and is now charged with a felony and is held longer in jail. And what is sad is had he been a little more respectful, the judge would have worked with him.

I've watched quite few of Judge Caprio's cases.
This is the first confrontational case I've seen.
Judge Caprio was COMPLETELY professional, and
showed great restraint, in this case. I think any other
judge would have not even talked to the guilty party,
