    From another beginner at the game. Thank you for all the videos which have helped me. Since starting to watch, I have built log stores gathered logs etc but the dark art of chain sharpening has daunted me so far.

      Thanks so much for your comment. It's an ongoing thing. I think I went from a D- to a C+ in that pic. It's definitely the trickiest thing to figure out... once I actually get good, I'll post another vid..

    Some/most chains have a line on top of the tooth indicating the filing angle. Also, once the teeth have been sharpened, the rakers need to filed also. It doesn't matter how sharp the teeth are, if the rakers are aren't filed down the chain wont cut

      Annoyingly this file doesnt have those lines, so going for the 30 degree angle. (My last one did though). I am getting a tool for the rakers at some point. However getting good chips (and not fine sawdust) so rakers/depth guages shouldn't be much of an issue at the mo (I think)) agree with you if the teeth cant bite due to high rakers then its futile.
