- Chinese venture capital funds are having a hard time raising new capital, and a soft exit market is making it hard to reverse that trend.
China’s IPO market:
“During the first six months of the year, the total value of mainland China's IPOs has plummeted 84% on the year to 32.5 billion yuan ($4.48 billion), while only 44 companies went public, down 75%.”

I was in Doha for 5 years from 1998 to 2003 for middle / high school. I got to see the first McDonalds, BurgerKing, KFC, university, western style shopping mall, etc open up. I came back to Toronto, Canada to resume schooling with my siblings. I had some friends that went to study in the US and believe it or not, went back to Doha after graduating uni. I asked them why, they said they make more than double what they could earn in the US tax free and the place is growing exponentially and its safe. They have big businesses, hotels, food chains, etc. everywhere now. Lots of malls and entertainment. The limitation of no higher education is gone as well.
I wish I could see what it looks like now but have no reason to go back. Other than the scorching hot weather and openly racist arabs, it's a great place.
