@@JordanISmith I prefer the first Sonic Advance game because the bosses in that game are kinda the easiest while Sonic Advance 2 Bosses are the hardest because of the auto side scrolling which makes you have to time your jumps right which makes it difficult to time your attacks at the right time. And Sonic Advance 3 is in between the two of the difficulty and the True Final Boss in that game is a nightmare.
Advance 2, in general, is one of my least favorite Sonic games. Good lord, the bosses and the Special Stage system absolutely kill the experience for me; plus, all the levels feel exactly the same. And the fact that you have to go through the insanely tedious and strict Special Stage system for every single level FIVE TIMES to unlock everything is the absolute worst experience in a Sonic game.
I found the cartoons first. I remember thinking Shadow Amy and Knuckles were fake characters because they weren’t in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog lmao
*Short answer:* Yes, duh. *Long answer:* Play the games for yourself and decide if they're fun or not for you. All 3 games are similar but still distinct, so there's plenty room for preference. Though, if platforming over bottomless pits is a massive pet peeve for you, then perhaps you better stay clear. Actually, the Advance games were somehow even worse with all that than the Rush games were. Dimps loves their death pits, as usual.
I will forever defend Advance 3. Exploring felt more rewarding than "Here have some rings/lives" (The keys are overkill though), endlessly fun time attack where you try out various combinations to reach a good time, good mixture of speed and plattforming. I love this game. Also the multiplayer is a blast.
a shame you can't collect the chao in multiplayer though. also, instant death if anyone dies really sucked, especially on some bosses... though you could literally carry your teammate.
I actually recently played Advance 1 again and honestly I really like Amy's playstyle. Sure at first its really tedious and pace-breaking from what you expect, she can't jump on her foes and can't curl into a ball at all while having the weakest attack in the game in terms of versatility, but when you play and learn her enough, she ends up handling the stages in her own fast-but-not-Sonic's-fast pace instead. She can easily reach heights only Tails can hope to keep up with consistently, she has a significantly better version of Sonic 3's insta-shield (itself a hard-to-master-but-totally-worth-it move) in her midair hammer swing, she has a spinning downward hammer attack if you absolutely MUST jump and harm your foe traditional-like, and she makes damn near every boss a total cakewalk since they aren't really designed to handle an overhead up-close swing, instead being meant for jumping on them. Her little quick-hop also helps her quickly gain enough speed in an extremely short time that even taking damage won't keep her slowed for long (unlike the other three who would at best need to rev up their spin-dashes to get back into the action. For added points, she can almost always backtrack up even the steepest slopes by repeated use of this where the spin-dashes would dart you downwards if they didn't get you all the way back up. Amy ended up being my preferred playstyle here and I even made it a point to get all the Chaos Emeralds using her specifically. Her biggest weakness really is simply adjusting to her different playstyle but is very rewarding if you can get creative with her. For example, if you want to get a high jump but keep your momentum, quickly let go of the directional pad, press down+B, then hold the pad again.
Tails: *fights bosses with a Piko Piko Hammer* Yes, you heard me right, folks. In Sonic Advance 3, Amy wasn’t the only playable character with a Piko Piko Hammer.
The Sonic advance trilogy was my childhood along with Pokémon. I actually got so nostalgic about those games that I installed a CFW on my 3DS just so I could play gba game on my console and replay those games again.
48:10 there are two other pairs that do matter: - knuckles & tails; possibly the most vertical movement-focused duo there is. the glide gets a buff so knuckles does a double jump before he actually starts to glide, plus the whole climbing on walls thing with the addition of tails' tag action make it great for finding chao. - multiple teams involving cream; yeah, cheese is still the god of destruction, especially against bosses. cream & tails very much eases the pain of chaos angel act 3 if you have trouble with that act.
Yes indeed. The reviewer cannot really claim to have done Sonic Advance 3 right if he just glosses over 25 of the 27 combinations. It seems to be the whole part of the game.
"Wait there are chaos emeralds in Sonic Advance?" Imagine my surprised pikachu face when I was on my 3rd playthrough as Tails, and ran into one of those springs. For those wondering, I didn't get the "go get the chaos emeralds" tip at the end because I have the (bad) habit of resetting right as the Credits start rolling.
Fun Fact: If you hold left on that wierd goal area in Sonic Advance 2, you'll start braking and, depending on which colored segment you land on, you'll gain more points. (If you go in the goal fast enough and brake on the yellow segment you'll get 1600 points which is neat)

Fun Fact: the 2-player mode had an interesting way to resolve potential de-sync issues with moving objects such as enemies. The game would keep track of objects on each player's screen separately, which led to oddities because sometimes things like enemies would only be on-screen for one of the two characters.. Unfortunately, this meant that if the players got separated on Chaos Angel Act 3, only the one still standing on the platform would be able to see and interact with it, so the other player would be prone to the pit drop for the rest of the level, thus meaning that the only way you could complete the level would be to hope the one standing on the platform could hold/juggle the other player with the Tag Action.
Reading some of these comments really make me feel old. I was actually 13 years old when the very first Sonic game came out in 1991 😳😳😳😳 The people who created the Sonic Advance trilogy were the same team who created Sonic Pocket Adventure for the Neo Geo Pocket Colour and a port of the first Sonic Advance game was later released on the Nokia N Gage.
Nice video Garrulous64, I wasn't aware you uploaded this until now and I was very happy to see it eventually happen. The Sonic Advance Trilogy will always be my favourite video game trilogy ever. Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure I love also. There just basically most of my childhood, especially Sonic Advance 3, which is my favourite out of the trilogy growing up and Always will be. 😇🦔👍
You got something wrong about the end points of the Sonic Advance 2 Levels. You don't just get points for passing the end post quick, you also get points for how quickly you stop. The pathway after the post has different colours, If you go past the post at maximum speed and manage to stop before the floor colour changes you get a huge bonus and unique animations. You basically need to hold left as soon as you pass the post to pull this off.
The Sonic Advance series in my opinion does a better job at putting a more modern Sonic into a 2D Sonic game than Sonic 4. More evidence that Sonic Advance is Sonic 4.
I loved the sonic advance games and still do I go back and replay them all every so often. SEGA needs to show them some love at least rerelease them out then in a collection
Sonic advance 1 was really fun, but the controls feel very heavy at first, which takes getting used to, but the chaos emeralds were not as bad to obtain since you could replay the stages as knuckles or tails, and just explore at your own leisure til you found the bonus area. Sonic Advance 2 may be faster and more fun casually, but I hate the bosses and I really hate how you get the emeralds!! I gave up on getting the emeralds because the special stage was awful too! Sonic advance 3 was pretty solid, though! Everyone hates it, but I enjoy the 2 player system, and I'm glad I don't have to get the emeralds with every character! The character combinations make the game fun in its own way.
i feel like with these games, dimps tried to appeal to the wrong audience. instead of appealing to the majority of the sonic fanbase, they rather wanted to appeal to the "hardcore" part of it. these game, are, and are meant to be challenging, and boy do i love me some challenge, but i 100% get why someone that isn't fond of that would not like it. i'm not trying to discredit this vid, since of course, this was your experience, and you did make some good points, but overall, this game is clearly meant for players that want a good challenge.
I will fully admit that I'm biased towards liking Sonic Advance 3 (it and Sonic Heroes were my first 2 Sonic games). I almost 100% beat the game before my Gameboy Advance SP broke when I dropped it in a doorway. That being said, I still think there's too many bottomless pits, and the Chaos Emeralds could have been handled better.
Amy's hammer hitbox is so bustedly MASSIVE that she can kill all of the bosses way faster than any of the other characters. yes, even (and ESPECIALLY) Ice Mountain.
knuckles and either cream or tails are great combos too. with tails, knuckles gets a little jump and then glide, while also having tails's fly and tails's launch moves. with cream, he glides like normal, but gets a homing attack and can borrow cream's chao
Overall, a great review of one of my favorite sonic series. Too much cheese tho, but its sonic which is known for being cheesy so it fits. To answer you're question which I assume to be rhetorical at 33:42 , it's easy to mistake a challenge as unfair or not fun. No one ever thinks that sonic games are hard but they are and sonic advance 2 is a hard game and being frustrated is natural and to be expected. Some enjoy it while others don't. Now granted, it's just the bosses that I find to be challenging and fun, but not the way the special stages were handled with the seven rings or heavy emphasis on death pits. That's just cruel. And I bet you any hard core advanced 2 fanatic will agree with that.
The closest to sonic advance I played was a game online on a random website I can't remember that only had 2 levels "green Hill" and "ice cap". And then you had to put in some code to unlock shadow, cream, and Amy.
I once had Sonic Advance 3 as a 4year old and I didn't go past Route 99 because I didn't know how to get back to the hub world... -w- I wish I still had the game so I could actually try it. Well, at least I can always fall back on Rush.

I liked the first and third but never got into the second. Hoping for a rerelease someday. If Castlevania Advanced can get a collection then this should too.
I think Sonic Advance 3 would've been a more fun experience for you if you've tried out some of the team combinations. Some examples: Sonic and Cream gets the fire shield dash as well as the water shield bubble. Knuckles and Tails gets a double jump glide, which is very good for level exploration. Knuckles and Amy gets a wall spin dash. Tails and Amy gets massively increased flight speed as well as being able to use the hammer attack while flying. Cream and Knuckles is the enemy/boss destruction mode, Cheese circles around you constantly which destroys enemies on impact and you can still Chao attack.
37:00 so i see Garrulos dont like animal friends, maybe is confusing to have normal looking animals to anthro mobians but in most anthro sereis is very comoon to have the two together whiout much atention to that, inst that bizarre common idea?.
I found the Chao hunt in Advance 3 to be very bearable. It keeps track of how many you have and which ones are in each act. Granted I just used a video guide but I was coming off the heels of Advance 2 and dipping slighlty into Battle, so I did not want to waste too much time. I could imagine having fun finding the Chao in Advance 3 legit without guides because of the combinations of characters you could play with and how the game also has the gold medal system to encourage replaying the levels.
The idea that SEGA saves their bad ideas for later instead of scrapping them is hilarious to think about

I think Sonic Advance 3 would've been a more fun experience for you if you've tried out some of the team combinations.
Some examples:
Sonic and Cream gets the fire shield dash as well as the water shield bubble.
The second boss is an unused boss idea for spring yard
Tbh I preferred advance 3 over advance 2 which I prefer over advance 1
I've also replayed all 3 in the past year
Advance 2 and 3 make Mania look super easy by comparison.
Imagine if dream cast sonic and classic sonic had a baby there you have it
You do realize that Sonic would have to have sex with his younger self?
Also, that would make him gay.
this game created the boost mechanic for future sonic games prove me wrong
before sonic advance, dimps made sonic pocket adventure
