i like that we get both perspectives from jesse and oliver.we get the traditional karate from jesse and the mma from oliver on these techniques and application thereof,
You might the most intelligent, open minded, and well rounded traditional karate instructor I’ve ever seen. I just found your channel a couple weeks ago and I really appreciate your insights and what your doing, thank you very much. 🙏🏻
Now that was really interesting. I'm currently reforming my curriculum as a Krav Maga instructor and I find it very interesting that you and Oliver broke down the situation into 3 phases and gave answers for all of them. That's pretty useful because one thing that happens a lot in class, aside from the several "What ifs?" questions, is the question for when the counter-measure you're applying doesn't work. I'll take all of this into consideration while doing my reflections.
I love how you always try to connect these concepts to the Kata bunkai. Coming from a karate background it makes it easier to learn. Thanks for another great video Jesse!
I just learned more from this video about dominant position and takedown defense/reaction than i have learned in years of bjj. I am blown away by the defense here. Top notch. No wonder your brother is 9-2. footwork is king and it is not mentioned enough in your standard BJJ class unless you specifically ask a higher belt.
One of my Karate buddies challenged me to a fight. We're both 4th Kyu Karatekas, but he's a Judo black belt as well. Glad I have you guys, hope this video will help 😅
Respect, i like if its methodical. Iam working as a selfdefense teacher in the special forces and i realize the technique is not the most important thing, its the methodical way to find solutions. And people are more working witch pictures in their head, not only with words. Its very good to link new experience with that what you already know. (you said, this frame is very similar to Karate). There is so much to speak. But all in all, very good video. You and your brother are very homogeneous and authentic. Big respect. Go on....
Hi Jesse Sensei! I do karate and created my own martial arts & self-defense activity at my school, to protect ourselves and others in dangerous situations. I had a dream that you came to our place and agreed to be our coach and I was so happy! But then I woke up and realized the cruel reality that you are not my coach and my club activity is shutdown because of the situation right now. 😭
Thanks jesse i’ve been waiting for ur videos as lockdown at my city does not motivate my training at all. pretty sure your videos push me to my trainings !
Hi sensei Jesse, oss, Your all videos are wonderful, I learned from these and practice in my dojo..after this i make a video on same thoughts in our language and published for our Karate and martial arts athletes
Awesome work, many thanks, First time I hear Oliver speaking, it’s funny how it’s clear he’s in MMA with his tough Nurmagomedov-like intonation when he speaks :D
I say karate has alot to it just alot poeple don't kneo how to apply it even people that have been learn it for year's it worth a revisit and re study of this great art
Thanks for the lesson. Good points about the 90 degrees frame (and applicable to “Shuto Uke”) controlling the head, sprawling, and the tight waist (a new one for me). I favor the waist grab (almost in a horse stace from his side) then trip him with my leg. Also a necktie/ single leg takedown; but this defense would make that very difficult.
Good video. You can add a crossface (bring forward the arm of the same leg that is going back ) when doing the sprawl so its easier, and your body doesnt have to touch the floor.
Perfect technical terminology. Once I actually got tossed just like that by a guy with judo experience, it wasn't nice. Also anybody notice at the beginning Jesse (automatically ) went in a linear sideways stance while Oliver went into a more square stance?
So... shuto while going back to a neko ashi dachi (front leg closer, and low stance). Checks out, that's exactly the stance we always use the shuto with. And then just back to a normal stance, except by moving the back leg. I think I can remember that...
I really appreciate how realistic Jesse tries to be about Karate. Great video.
Including Oliver and MMA into your content is straight 🔥
Good to hear the discussion of "frames" in guard positions; this is really useful terminology that's often not mentioned in Karate classes.
Kata is literally a collection of frames! 😜💪 This is one of the topics that I’ll be teaching at my classes for KNX20 in August
frames has been discussed a lot in my BJJ classes when we roll, so I wonder if there is a connection here. hahaha
@Nikolaij Brouiller ahhh alright! that is interesting!
Is it my imagination or is something like a frame in the pinan kata series?

Just started watching your videos during the pandemic and it’s really inspired me to get back into Karate again. I really do miss every aspect of it.

I love brothers who fight for GOOD . True hero bro.
Jesse, you make grapplers like us to come up with creative ways to work on our throws/takedown also. this is a great video! OSS.

The end was amazing. Thanks for the educative video. ❤️❤️❤️
When things are down. I can always rely on sensei Jesse video to change my mood 😁

Excellent work as usual from the Enkamp brothers!
Now I have a new explanation for the spin and drop in Kusanku Kata 👏👏👏

Glad to hear I can motivate and inspire!
Good instruction, sir, thank you for the demonstration
LOL you guys... Reminds me of when I used to learn new lessons at the dojo and tried on my little brothers... Great video
Thank you for your great videos sensei! 🙏
good to see you again legend and your brother
It's really good to know this defense work against any grappler/wrestler.
Great video again
Greetings from Germany
Danke!
Great video, I always found judo personally a great art to train alongside striking arts, gives great knowledge of position balance and leverage
Thank-You! Great Tutorials!
Thank you Jesse and Oliver
I'm no karate guy, but I dig the comradery of fellow martial artists.
Just what I wanted to know. Thanks ❤
Another great video, Jesse. Thanks for sharing!
You and your family are doing a really good job. Wish you all the best (from France).
Great video! Oliver is a beast too!
You both are amazing
Another excellent video Jesse and Oliver! Thank you both very much. o7
One can always learn something new here. I thought the first line of defense was a Lyoto Machida frontkick to the face. Serenity now...
I am definitely bringing this up to my instructors.
It seems really useful! Thank you for sharing! XD
Hi sensei Jesse, oss, Your all videos are wonderful, I learned from these and practice in my dojo..after this i make a video on same thoughts in our language and published for our Karate and martial arts athletes
Very practical. It's just as cool as all your videos.💪💪💪
Great ridge hand and cat stance
That most of us dont know how to apply them. Keep it up. Any explanation of kata great. Awesome.
I got a Shotokan karaté base and I realy enjoy your vidéo. Take cares ! you guys.

Awesome work, many thanks,
First time I hear Oliver speaking, it’s funny how it’s clear he’s in MMA with his tough Nurmagomedov-like intonation when he speaks :D
😀yes I needed this
Sweet!
Shiko dachi, the Sumotori stance, has always helped me not being taken down.
thanks jesse for video
I find your techniques very interesting and effective and your videos are well done. Good job.
Oliver is just chillin there like "my bro is a total weeb. At least he can fight. I can still kick his ass."
He’s used to it 😂
Great stuff guys.
I like the way u instruct...but ur is good too...👍👍
I say karate has alot to it just alot poeple don't kneo how to apply it even people that have been learn it for year's it worth a revisit and re study of this great art
Thanks, that's very helpful! I was actually wondering that since one day I sparred and was trow in the ground.
Great! Now you know 😄
A takedown is a karate practitioner's biggest weakness, so I can imagine they would make very good fighters after they've mastered this.
I am a kyokushin kai Technique is excellent.and i follow your techniqes.🙄🇮🇷
Good to know! Thanks for the video.

Right on, brother! 🤙🏻

As a follow-up, it'd be good to see these techniques applied by a much smaller person.
Nice, funny that I was thinking about empi uchi earlier, before watching . Then there was the elbow. Guess I know what I’m doing later
