This is a great animation. And for those who say you shouldn’t show this to your kids, I think it can still teach them a valuable lesson- that life isn’t fair all the time, and that they’re going to have to live in a world that constantly challenges them to endure and try harder in the face of doing what they love.
And that they need to live without shortcuts because what easy comes, may also easy go
At first I felt sad for the ending. Then I realized the real meaning of “sweet cocoon” was something that you get easily by stealing other’s efforts. The fat lazy caterpillar didn’t try to built its own cocoon step by step. Instead, she took someone else’s cocoon which obviously didn’t fit her and yet she still tried to make it her own. I think the ending was trying to imply that even if you succeed from taking short cuts, the success won’t last for long because it doesn’t really belong to you.

Nobody realized that the caterpillar pulled out a similar hair from the cocoon before she tried to get in. I feel like this was a story about karma. That was not her cocoon.

I just read a bunch of statements below and I loved how most of them are trying to make sense of it with their own interpretation. I didn’t even think about it I just laughed my head off!

Everyone who's complaining about the negative ending... I want to tell those people that "real life" doesn't work in happy endings... And that's the message in the video itself.... This is the reality... This is how the world works
This is not "real life", it's an animated cartoon, they could have made it a happy ending
The effort she placed into trying to take someone else cacoon she couldve placed that same effort into making her own
This animation tell us "the story of life is not always happy ending"

I figured this was how it was gonna go. Showing the bird shadow in the beginning is actually called "foreshadowing." This reminds of the video on UA-cam of a guy finding a mouse in his trash can. He feeds it and then takes it out to the woods and lets it go, but out of nowhere a hawks sweeps down and grabs the mouse.
The ending is pretty funny.
Some people are saying it wasn't a happy ending, I think it was neither a happy nor a bad ending, to generalize the meaning I think it's about how all that work we put into something can turn out to be for nothing, but then we'll just move on with our lives.
My sick humour made me bust out laughing at the end. I feel like a terrible person because I watched it twice

How? I mean, the caterpillar can't not transform into a butterfly, it is inevitable change and a part of growing up. I think the lesson is to not grief over a failed mission, like the bugs brushed off the fact that the butterfly practically died

Traumatizing story aside, the animation here is simply *gorgeous*. The way the sun shines through the insects' semi-transparent bodies, the facial movements of the characters, the amazingly detailed textures, the lush setting complete with subtle background animations...seriously, this looks like either Dreamworks or Pixar made it!

Childhood is really the best time to learn about how nature really functions. It’s not all cute and pleasant. Instead, more often, it really is by the understanding of the grand design of it, always beautiful, but survival in it is ugly and harsh. Early in life is the best time to learn all the possible fundamental lessons of life, including those that can be learned from nature, to help them be the good people you want them to be from the beginning before other lesser forms of worthless knowledge take hold in their minds.

on the bugs' perspective I think they helped a person in need not asking for anything in return, but it wasn't in their hands to change her life, so they went on with theirs (maybe feeling fullfilled that they helped in some stage of the others life)

(я согласен) Сначала мне было грустно за финал. Затем я понял, что реальное значение «сладкого кокона» - это то, что вы легко получаете, крадя чужие усилия. Толстая ленивая гусеница не пыталась шаг за шагом построить свой собственный кокон. Вместо этого она взяла чужой кокон, который явно ей не подходил, и все же попыталась сделать его своим. Я думаю, что финал пытался показать, что даже если вам удастся сделать короткий путь, успех не будет длиться долго, потому что он на самом деле не принадлежит вам.

At least the butterfly provided a snack for the bird continuing the system of nature as a whole.

Beautiful storyline great animation I was laughing all the way through and I knew where it was going to end because this was a comedy and a comedy always has a pratfall in the end and of course her pratfall was showing off to the boys her beautiful new wings and of course doing it right in front of the sun where this bird would be able to fly by and grab her it's perfect execution it would have been a movie with you and beings in it but oh my gosh it might hurt my child's mind I hate to tell you this but my kids thought it was hilarious because they see nature all the time and don't protect my kids from things that really happened and this was a cartoon they see worse than this on the cartoons they watch cheese gosh get a life if you think your kids are going to be and those of you who have been your adults get a life this was one of the best cute little shorts in a while I've seen an animation thank you very much

When the caterpillar removed evidence of the cocoons actual owner at the beginning, it pissed off and triggered karma(thus the bird's sound) and at the very end, Karma did her thing. It doesn't matter how much effort we put into life, it doesn't matter how genuinely passionate our friends help is to our cause; if we begin by stealing other people's effort and making them our own, eventually our cookie will crumble.

Funny ending. My five year old watched this and was fine. He was shocked that the butterfly got caught and says he didn’t like how it needed but was fine. Not crying to having a crisis.

The 2 little bugs went out of their way to help the caterpillar. But when it turned into a butterfly, it never thanked the 2 little bugs..

Faith Kobayashi-Tanaka In the middle of the short, you might have noticed the bird looking for a meal. Plant-eaters and “meat-eaters”, in this case, it was a “butterfly-eater”, both need to eat. One law of nature is that life must be taken for life to be given or continued. Otherwise, everything will die, nothing will continue or even begin to live again. It’s the cycle of life.

It’s great that the bug (the butterfly) was able to come out of its cocoon just in time to provide that majestic bird with a nice snack!
And a stomach ache! Monarchs are poisonous. The bird could have had a better snack by eating the caterpillar instead of the butterfly, since the water, fat storage and protein percentages are much higher along with the chitin being lower (chitin can cause intestinal blockage, stool hardening and constipation since it is harder to digest)
