You are so wonderfully silly and you always put a smile on my face when I'm having a bad day :) Thank you for being awesome Emmy!!
Hi Emmy, love your videos. I own a bakery in CT and when people ask me what red velvet is, I like to describe it as a buttermilk cake with a tiny hint of cocoa powder. When made correctly it is very moist and not overly sweet.
lol I commented you back last time and yes, I remember Pam. Hi, Pam!
Erm, traditionally, red velvet was not a chocolate cake dyed red, in fact as with most home recipes, the cake was a true conglomerate of interesting ingredients. Coffee, Beetroot, Cocoa powder and Buttermilk giving this cake it's particular flavor.
Seeing the Teaberry gum was a real blast from the past. When I was a child, there was an older gentleman (probably around the age that I am now, come to think of it) who would give the children around him sticks of Teaberry gum just before church services started. I haven't had a stick of Teaberry since my childhood (which was longer ago than I'd like to admit), but I still remember the smell of it.
T.K. Bertram Isn't it amazing how certain smells can trigger memories?
Teaberry gum is so good!!! Some stores in Mass. still sell it...
From a small town in Massachusetts and we always go to hull or the cape New England is so beautiful :)
I miss Paragon Park... It was like 6 flags amusement park ... one of the first and biggest longest Rollercoaster in the Country... Opened in like 1918 and closed in 1984...
+Cherry S. Steele .. it was in Hull Mass.
Boston baked beans are called that because they look like actual Boston baked beans :)
Also - Necco stands for : New England Candy COmpany
Red velvet is traditionally made using dutch processed coca and buttermilk. The dutch processed cocoa and the acid in the butter milk combine and create the red coloring. It really works and I've personally made red velvet cake this way.
I'm from the U.K. And I made some whoopie pies not long ago & filled them with soft whipped marshmallow, oh my goodness they are AMAZING! 😍
Oh...right. Thanks, it's been alooong time. :)
So many memories! I was born in Maine, and lived there for some time... I live in Washington now, but those Necco candies remind me of my grandpa. He used to share his with my sister and me, those were good times. My mom's favorites were the Boston Baked Beans :P
I was enjoying this video when you held up a package of Fizzies, and my childhood memories just rushed back into my head. We always had Fizzies in the house, my brother and I used to fight over the root beer ones. Put them in a glass, pour in some water, and enjoy!!!!
My favorite is Necco, boston baked beans and boston brown bread.
OH WOW! Thank you so much, Milford isn't too far. I used to go there all the time, I don't remember seeing them there. I'll have to check. Thank you again :D
Yes, you can find Canada part 1 and 2 in my Emmy Eats section. :)
I've only seen them on the East Coast, but I would think in CT you'd have no problem. Sounds like you need to take a little road trip. I've found gas stations on the interstate tend to have excellent candy selections. Good luck!
Massachusetts food is basically New England food which is known for it's lobster and other seafood like clam chowder. The lobster in the North Atlantic ocean is probably the best in the world.
Massachusetts also has massive cranberry farms near Cape Cod.
Which means you're awesome.
I was just in Salem mass yesterday ...they had a "thanksgiving" sandwich ...amazing!!!
coming from a baker, red velvet is essentially a chocolate cake with less chocolate, very mild flavor, and then yes, dyed red :)
Teaberry and Clove gums my faves! Yum!😍
No you're not wrong red velvet cake is a choclate based cake it just has red food coloring but it has vinger in it so that it stays red while it bakes it also makes it very light and fluffy when combined with the baking soda
Haha I used to love the original Neccos (I don't know why, though), I don't like tjem as much anymore, but I always use them to make the roof of gingerbread houses for Christmas. Thanks for doing a Massachusetts one and please use your library voice! :)
Finally!! :) thanks for the video Emmy... U are amazing.
Yay you did my area :) so happy right now love your videos
Bummed that you were sent a red velvet cake without cream cheese frosting...that's how it should be prepared, not with regular vanilla icing. Without the cream cheese icing, it's just a vanilla cake with a pinch of cocoa.
you have such a unique and fun channel! you are a delight to watch :)
It must be fun being able to taste all the delicious snacks sent to you :P
Boston Baked Beans is sweetened with brown sugar. So are the candies, and they look like little baked beans.
I love your candy reviews.
Down the Cape in Hyannis or Dennis, there is a store called the Candy. Co and they sell SO many awesome candies and I'm thinking of going there in the summer and maybe getting a package for you!!
Thank you miss j and great video Emmy!
I freaking love sky bars was my go to candy as a child and today!
Omg I'm from MA and it was nice seeing you try sweets there Emmy ^0^
Necco's are sooooooooooooo awesome! i love them!
Yum! I love Teaberry gum!!
oh my....Everything looks so good!~
Oh, and it's typically paired with cream cheese frosting - I'm surprised they didn't put that in the middle of it, haha.
Well, Boston is commonly called "Bean Town", so my best guess is it's a reference to that.
I believe red velvet cake is a mix of vanilla and chocolate flavors :)
Red Velvet is a little chocolate and vanilla + red food coloring, the original erd velvet was made from beet juice instead of food coloring though.
Love Teaberry Gum.
You'd never had red velvet before? D: You poor thing! That's my absolute favorite kind of cake aside from cheesecake (which is really more of a pie, of course).
I really love nonpareils too, pretty nostalgic for me :3 I used to always want them whenever my mom took my brother and me out to the movies.
Now I want to try Fizzies and Bog Frogs... somehow I've never seen them before, even though I'm on the Mass border. Maybe it's because I'm not near Boston? Hmmm.
Please use your library voice :U
Emmy, what do you do with the food items after you've tasted them on camera? A part of me really hopes that you do not throw them away.
Im from eastern N.Y. and we had most of those candies back in the 70s. I hated all of them! LOL
I live in Springfield , Massachusetts I had all of those candies when I went to Boston with my aunt and mom and 2 brothers and I got to eat all those candies And can you visit southplainfield,nj cause I moved a year ago from Massachusetts because I was born in nj then I moved to mass now I'm leaving down here again
Red velvet cake is choclate cake dyed red but all the dye gives it a different flavor
Red velvet is... Interesting. It does have cocoa in it, but it's not technically a chocolate cake. The amount of cocoa in each recipe varies. I'm not really sure, it's hard to describe... I really want red velvet cake now.
Silly iPad I wasn't done with my post I was going to say the nonpariels look laundry like a lolly I really like called freckles only they have all different colours of sprinkles not just the white
In Australia nonpareils are freckles
Red velvet is a whole new flavor.
Peanut chews are delicious!!!!!
I want a whoopie pie it looks soooo yummy
I can get you an awesome recipe if you want it. really easy! *from new england btw*
Alicia Grass yes that would be awesome thanks Alicia
Kgive me a lil bit to get it typed out
Valeria Galindo Cake
1/2 cup baking cocoa
1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup shortening
1-1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup buttermilk
FILLING:
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Dash salt
1 cup 2% milk
3/4 cup shortening
1-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Directions
1. In a small bowl, combine cocoa and water. Cool for 5 minutes. In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, vanilla and cocoa mixture. Combine dry ingredients; gradually add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition
2. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. Flatten slightly with a spoon. Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes or until firm to the touch. Remove to wire racks to cool.
3. In a small saucepan, combine flour and salt. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth; cook and stir over medium-high heat until thick, 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat. Cover and refrigerate until completely cool.
4. In a small bowl, cream the shortening, sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add milk mixture; beat for 7 minutes or until fluffy. Spread filling on half of the cookies; top with remaining cookies. Wrap in plastic wrap to keep them moist either the entire dish or wrap each one, *I wrap each one because usually they get given away because they make so many!* & store in the refrigerator. Makes: 2 dozen.
***This snack is such an awesome party gift or friends gift for school because who doesn’t love chocolate. You can make them into any kinda cake you want really. If you want to add chocolate chips to the chocolate batter you can, make the filling minty with some mint extract or orange with orange oil, coconut with coconut extract and some shavings… there are endless ways to change these up! Let me know if you have any questions!! ***
Alicia Grass wow thanks sooo much now I can taste and make them , what can I use instead of shortening?
Red velvet was originally made from radishes but now it's mostly made from chocolate and red food coloring
Oooh, anise :D My speakers really couldn't catch that (or maybe my ears) and I constantly heard another word because I heard "u" instead of "i"... Guess that's what I get for reading youtube commments on all the videos XD
This video made me crave whoopie pies.
at 2:17 a car horn beeps lol emmy didnt notice
Take a bobby pin bend it outward. Rubber band with a button. Windup, insert in envelope. Made the rattle snake gag toy when I was a kid.
I wish she would eat North Dakota we have great Miso Soup surprisingly and alligator plus frog and cajin, Cajun food or however you spell it
Making my mouth water, lol
Loved the video..:)
Yummie Whoopie pies!
Have you got basket from anywhere in Canada yet?
I live in Massachusetts :)
What do you think emmy does after videos? Throws away the ones she doesn't like and eats the ones she does over time? Or do you think she throws them all out? Maybe, she keeps them all. Who knows :p haha
hey emmy! i was just wondering, what do you do with all the leftover food?
Last I knew, she shares them with friends and family. She doesn't really eat so much candy :P
"Please use your library voice." :D
U.S here I come
I always wonder this too! I'm sure she saves them but the fact that she had to open them all at the same time to taste them probably greatly reduces their shelf life.
It has cream cheese icing
Your clothes are always so cute! ugh adorable! haha! I'd love to visit MA one day! Theres nothing special here in ohio..nothing i can think of really @_@
Yes there is, Skyline Chili
On behalf of the state of Massachusetts, I'd like to apologize for the existence of NECCO candies.
Yummy
when you were talking about the double chocolate whoopee pie, you meant to say ho-ho instead of ding dong
"N.e.c.co." waffers ..... it means "New England Candy Company"
Please use your library voice. Oh Yum!!!
ain't the first thing she ate a woopie pie? I love woopie pies
I live in a bordering city to MA :)
I live in MA
haha ugh I used to live in Hull
please, testing sweets from Argentina.
Emmy eats Vietnam!!!!
I like how she gives her opinion about the sweets she try out, without putting strange faces like other people out there...so unrespectful
AngelWink01 yep she's very polite. #TeamEmmy
Red velvet cake is actually slightly sour and way more moist than a chocolate cake because of the vinegar and buttermilk - the red is supposed to slightly red as the cocoa basically changes colour because of the vinegar or something. sadly, a lot of places just put food colouring in.
I live in MA and never seen some of those treats i guess it depends on what part of the state u in Western mass is well ignored when people think of MA they think of lighthouses and Boston well not in western mass because its simply GARBAGE!!
Why didn't she have boston cream pie (I really want a boston cream pie donut)
Red velvet is vanilla cake with cocoa powder and red food colouring! I know this is a old video but for anyone wondering...
Aww, grandparents are great.
I lived in Massachusetts my whole life.
OMG! Yes, yes, and yes, please. :) My PO box is: 24 Corliss St. #40935 Providence, RI 02940. Thanks for thinking of me.
lol Of course, I have one. :) You can find it in the About section on my channel page.
Red velvet is a chocolate cake, but it tends to be less chocolatey (and, unfortunately, a good bit drier) than a standard chocolate cake. When you consider that most red velvet cakes use cream cheese icing instead of chocolate, they get even less chocolatey. Plus, a lot of pre-made ones have barely any chocolate at all.
the nonparelis looks exactly like Snow Caps! I used to get a whole box of the mini ones all the time :3
I share, share, share. :) I don't like wasting anything.
Ooo...turkey with cranberry? dressing/stuffing?
I listed my top five at the end of the video.
I love Necco wafers!
Another famous treat from Massachusetts is the chocolate chip cookie, first baked in Whitman MA at the Toll House Inn. :D
lol I only like the peppermint. :)
Interesting...gobs, I like it. :)
Yay! then I did it correctly. :)
