  • We spend a few days visiting the small off the grid community of Tenakee Springs, Alaska over July 4th, which is Independence Day in the United States.
    This video is less about boating than some of what we have shared and more of a travelogue and snapshot of our experience at Tenakee, which is a super cool and welcoming community on Chichagof Island in Southeast Alaska.
    Please subscribe to follow along on our travels and adventures.

    Worked in tenakee for a summer about 5 years ago for captain Tuck Harry, (the man running the fishing booth at 5:45) hands down the best experience of my life!

    Great fishing and hospitality.

    Jed you and your wife were wonderful hosts to me and my children.we will never forget you or Tenakee!
    We still talk about it how we were chased off a stream across the inlet by a Brown Bear!
    People ask me about my favorite places I have ever been and they are Tenakee Springs ,Alaska and Paris, France.

      Paris is a great city indeed - but Tenakee Springs is one of those unique and awesome places that one never forgets...

    A beautifully edited video of a sweet All-American town. The parade was as good as I've enjoyed in years! Loved the warmth, humor and community spirit. Thank you for sharing. We've been to Alaska 7 times and planning another for 2019. No place with more rugged beauty on earth. Thanks again.

      Paul Corbin - thanks! We agree about the beauty of Southeast Alaska. We just rounded Cape Flattery this morning and are headed south for our next adventure. We will always remember the awesome summer that we spent all over the Northwest but especially Alaska.

      Tracey Cerul - The weather in early July was spectacular. My only complaint is that the sun and warmth brought out horse flies all over the place!

    I am really surprised by how clean the town is and how well painted and maintained the houses seem to be?

    • @CassidysSailingTrawler
      @CassidysSailingTrawler  6 років тому +1

      radbcc - there are a couple places in various states of disrepair or rebuild but in general everyone seems to take a great deal of pride in maintaining homes and the town in general.

    How was the town powered- generators?

    • @CassidysSailingTrawler
      @CassidysSailingTrawler  6 років тому +2

      goutvols103 - It is powered by at least one large generator that is on the hill behind the center of town. I’m assuming it’s fueled by diesel. Water is all well water with some people having to carry potable water in containers to their homes.
