If you are watching this and you know Mongo Santamaria, you know what true art/music is.
Thanks to my dad I grew up listening to this music, and we were fortunate to see Mongo and Tito Puente perform at the Blue Note back in the 80’s - great show !
Too much sax solo
Finally, at thirty-five years of age, I can say I’ve seen a shekere solo.
This is bad ass in 2023 and will be in a hundred years. Finest melting of jazz and Afro Cuban music. The tenor player was smoking, the percussion clean and popping.
Mongo Santa Maria, Tito Puentes, and the band is all that! I love Afroblue.
Always will remain the best version of this fabulous composition, Had the great pleasure of seeing Mongo way back when at the famous Birdland...Along with Herbie Mann featuring the great Willy Bobo on timbales. NO matter how many covers of Afro, this will not be dethroned!!
That tenor solo just EXPLOTES MY MIND!!!
Man, this is SO GOOD! I remember seeing Mongo Santamaria open for Hugh Masekela at several of his concerts. Five dollars for music like this!!!
the sax guy.... he's the man
"Afro Blue" is a jazz standard composed by Mongo Santamaría. Mongo Santamaria recorded his composition "Afro Blue" in 1959 when playing with the Cal Tjader Sextet. The first recorded performance was on April 20, 1959, at the Sunset Auditorium in Carmel, California, with Santamaría on percussion.
Yeah, Bob Quaranta on piano! Yeah, Bobby Sanabria on drums! Awesome performance
Ive been performing this song for over twenty years. There is nothing that feels better. All time classic.
I WAS LUCKY TO CATCH MONGO AT THE VILLAGE GATE HE WAS GREAT.

El Más Grande... Maestro Mongo Santamaría, ¡¡Gracias Por Preservar Nuestras Raíces Africanas!!!
Beautiful. Awesome. Soulful. Genius. Timeless. Cosmic.
Mongo one of the true diamonds of Latin music. Or just music period.
Absolutely wonderful! Que ritmo tan fantastico, se me eriza la piel!
The audio is flawless, incredible mastering...
