I absolutely love this. I must have listened to this superb performance a 100 times over many months. Still, I have been so curious about what seems to be words that Allison seems to mouth voicelessly just after the short break at about 1.12. It always adds to the spirit with which she plays. But what are those words?
..... the most musical.... set all your differences aside.... she executes some of the most exquisite phrasing I've heard in years..... hardly a miss.... just beautiful......
Criticism is healthy so long as it is not hurtfull. Alison is enjoying her playing and it shows. You go for it girl, show off if you like. Its back to the Arban for me and even if I get to your standards which is highly unlikely,I will never be as good looking as you. I hope you will entertain us for many years to come.XXXXX
Alison is such a stunningly beautiful lady that I have to close my eyes to hear the beautiful music, otherwise I am too distracted. She is by far the best classical trumpet player there is. 😍❤️🎺
Ááá végre valaki. :) Szerintem is sok amit csinál a leányzó. Ennek ellenére most vettem meg magamnak karácsonyra az egyik CD-jét és nagyon tetszik, a hangfelvételen nem látszik ahogy rázza magát, viszont nagyon szép puhán tud fújni. Kár érte. :)
Notice the big smile on her face near the end...she knows she's given another flawless performance. Incidentally, the guy with the oboe at 2:22 looks like Steve Forbes.
There are additonal factors. The make of the instrument, In Ms. Helseths case a Shilke. I don't know about Ms Balsoms trumpet. Trumpets are given different bores to suit individual players on occasion. This will affect the "coloring" of the sound. Ms. Helseth was in a recording studio...Ms Balsom was at a live performance...but either way I enjoy hearing both of them...they're both amazing.
@absoftitanium In most cases, yes, but in this case that's an assumption. She plays two whole measures rapidly before the rest of the orchestra enters, and we cannot see if the MD is conducting those measures or not. I've seen this piece performed live and seen several other videos where the conductor is visible. Usually for the third movement, the conductor takes the cue from the trumpeter during the opening measures. Regardless, my opinion is not a reflection on her capabilities, but one of interpretation. She's obviously someone to be looked up to as a model of technical and musical achievement. My opinion is simply that this movement should be performed a bit slower.
@absoftitanium true and not true. The star soloists usually rule the average conductors. But I don't think anyone blames her nor the cinductor. It is just a connoisseurs remarks : this performance is, undoubtfully, a bit too fast. And one should remember what Liszt wrote , in French, about that, as an advice to all pianists playing his works : "When in doubt about the right tempo, always chose to play too slow rather than risk playing too fast, because rushing always leads to vulgar (sic : "vulgaire" in French) results."
@@THall-vi8cp You seem to be quite right. Star soloists usually rule the average conductors. But whether it is due to the conductor's choice or the trumpeter's pride, this performance is, undoubtfully, a bit too fast. The conductor and the brilliant Miss Balsom seem to have disregarded what Liszt wrote , in French, about that, as an advice to all pianists playing his works : "When in doubt about the right tempo, always chose to play too slow rather than risk playing too fast, because rushing always leads to vulgar (sic : "vulgaire" in French) results."
La mayor cualidad que percibo en ella es su inteligencia, además de tocar la trompeta con mucha destreza es su habilidad e inteligencia para ser instrumentalista; además de ser bella y una persona con muchas cualidades
I think you're right. Alison's playing is very good and I really like her soft tone. I like her CDs as well. It's good if she can make more people listen to classical music. But I miss something deeper from her playing when I listen to this video. Actually I think it's not a very good Hummel 3rd movement. But she's wearing a fancy dress and she's moving nicely so everybody will like it. :) I have a lot of other thoughts but I cannot really share them with you because of my quite poor English.
Originally written in E but often performed on Eb, and consequently Eb trumpet. Not too easy on Bb and Eb trumpet in E major. The E trumpet I believe was invented mainly for the performance of this piece and is rarely used for anything else.
@schulzy5 And that's simply your opinion. Some would agree but others would not. You are no better than the people you were shooting your comment towards. I personally like Wynton's version.
I would be very nervous playing this with a symphony orchestra like this one...If I hit one bad note, they would hate me. Isn't that Steve Forbes playing oboe?
Kistrombitas - I have to respectfully disagree to the extent of this: How can you truthfully "know" what her playing is about, or what her performance was about? Regardless of what the record label or producer of the concert thought, her playing is very, very good. She has practiced, no doubt, for many, many years. The comment that this is too "popular" is intriguing to me... classical music is better when it is listened to by the small minority?
She is mind boggling excellent. Thank you for showing the world how great our horn can be.
I am 69 years old and I am proud to say Alison is one of my all time heros!!!!
So flawless, so perfect, so talented and so modest in her beauty..
I am in awe of highly skilled high brass and horn players. Such physical prowess is astounding.
Listening to her just makes me feel good! Brava, Ms. Balsom!
Dear... just care, Bravo its a genderless expretion.
Daniel Balasa Miguel well, no. Bravo is masculine, and brava is feminine. Gendered words are the basis of any Romance language.
@@thepatriarchy2514 Dear friend, as Ive sad, for the current use the expretion is genderless
In addition to all the comments about her brilliance, she phrases so creatively and that makes for a really compelling performance. Thank you.
Hands down, the top trumpeter of our time. She is the mark.
I would call Nakaryakov the best trumpeter of our time
I've attended concerts during which I wished the performance could have gone on forever and this one is no exception.
Incredible musicality! Sounds very playful too, you can tell that she's at ease playing this. Oh yeah, and pretty much gorgeous too.
Pretty much? 🙂
Beauty, talent, intelligence, a real first class british lady !!!
Thanks Allison.
She is great. A real grand performer.
Merveilleux, mille merci pour ce bel extrait !
She makes it look so effortless.
Oh Alison! You are simply fabulous! Out of this world! Can‘t get enough of you and your trumpet! ❤❤
I tried to play this once upon a time. Not easy. Kudos Alison!!!! Awesome
Hervorragende Technik und Ausdruck, kombiniert mit sehr guten szenischen Rraesenz!
Wonderful! Keep playing!
What a vivid and rapid sound! of course her technique is perfect. amazing! wonderful! Now she is the best solo trumpet player in the world. Brava!
Impressive that triple sound a challenge in itself, for my bugle playing days.. fantastic trumpet sound.
I absolutely love this. I must have listened to this superb performance a 100 times over many months.
Still, I have been so curious about what seems to be words that Allison seems to mouth voicelessly just after the short break at about 1.12. It always adds to the spirit with which she plays. But what are those words?
This masterpiece is far to short.
absolutely!
but the tonguing in that time frame caught my ear the most ;-)
Tonguing in your ear? You wish.
..... the most musical.... set all your differences aside.... she executes some of the most exquisite phrasing I've heard in years..... hardly a miss.... just beautiful......
As a trumpet player..... Holy shit !!!! She nailed that!!!
Amazing ❤
GREAT video!
Fantastic!
J'adore, elle est fantastique! 🤗❤️❤️❤️
Wife: “What are you doing honey”? Me: “ I am watching a classical music video”. Wife: That’s nice.
nice one! love the video! Loved your video! . just subscribed! I'll watch for your next post.
Aplausos y aplausos !! Y muchas gracias.
Astonishing playing.

if you go looking for shite then shite is what you will find , i personally found it absolutely delightful
When I watch this video I try SO hard to ignore that dress she's wearing and just concentrate on her talent and the wonderful performance.
you are absolutely right. She does't need that kind of dress.
The dress is lovely, classy, and flattering. I, for one, think she is talented and charming.
@@jaypark2254 "She does't need that kind of dress." Are you out of your mind?
@@jaypark2254 sorry if this comes off as rude but I don't really understand what is wrong with the dress? it isnt short or very low cut or anything
What incredible talent
Superb performance.
Now I know trumpet is the beautiful. She motivated me.
All talent, thanks.
Regards
I am so in love with her👍👍👍💐💐💐
How about performing one of the Fisher Tull trumpet concertos, please!
Thank you!
she really has got everything!
Alison is such a stunningly beautiful lady that I have to close my eyes to hear the beautiful music, otherwise I am too distracted. She is by far the best classical trumpet player there is. 😍❤️🎺
Fabulous.....
Alison is… incredible!
Elle est vraiment formidable. Quel talent.
such a gorgeous use of contrast at 2:49 till 3:02

I thought I played this well until now. Grrr. A dozen years of playing and I just got smoked. Hahaha
Bravissima veramente... ma anche bellaaaa!!!!!!!!!
Enjoyed the dress nearly as much as the music.
Pretty music, pretty performer...
Straordinaria 👏
show de bola!!!!
toca muito e com sentimento...
showzaço...

Ich kenne keine bessere Version. Bravo!
When I watch this great video I try SO hard to ignore that dress she's wearing.
it does her no favours
@o4o4oto I'm not saying whether I agree or disagree. Keep in mind, this is a live performance. The video of Helseth isn't.

Is she advertising her body or her awesome skill with the trumpet?
Nice playing. Faster than I like to hear this piece.
Yes, too fast. The orchestra is not able to deliver nicely its replies.
@absoftitanium

Sounds like jazz articulation sometimes :D I lover her playing
She does jazz too. She’d be a great jazz musician-with Chet Baker and Miles’ sensibilities!
Me too...isn't she just fabulous!! So talented, the dress IS a distraction which I am sure she regretted...but the TALENT! Sublime...:))))))
Maravillosa intérprete acompañado de maravilla de mujer es un don de la naturaleza

Assuming I had the ability, I'd dread playing along with an orchestra this good.....If I made mistakes they'd secretly hate me.
SEI MERAVIGLIOSA ALISON CIAO
I would be intimidated by just having an orchestra like that playing for me....If I screwed up they would hate me.

Alison has come along way since this but I still love it and of course and the added bonus of a gorgeous backside to boot xxx
Reminds me of my third girl friend.
why didn't the camera pan into the fingering on the third page trills?!
Une fée descendue sur terre ..............

The best bits are 1.31 and 2.17. Dancey, bouncy and getting "round the corner" jsut right.

How did she get the last name Hummmmel?
