There’s the additional ending which is on UA-cam there’s the additional shredder beating up the foot clan for failing, then there’s this. The original movie was probably gonna be closer to two hours long!
I can confirm having seen this in the theaters that a large portion of this was in the theatrical cut. I always wondered what happened to the farm meditation and training scene after it was released on VHS because it was missing ever since. I assume it may have been budget costs to make it fit on VHS more easily, and then they simply never bothered with restoring it.
The original cut would have probably been given the PG-13 rating. The studios would not have wanted that since they view TMNT as child friendly, and removed scenes to keep it PG.
Lol! I love TMNT the way it is. This cool, but it's not really integral to the plot. Zack Snyder's scenes all of them were integral to the plot and direction of the story. And the movie is good when it not messed with. 3/18/21 😁
It's a shame that New Line Cinema or Warner Bros or whoever basically treated the cut footage as poorly as it did, not even putting them on any of the DVD release. There was a minor push to get a special edition TMNT '90 DVD back in the day, but it gained absolutely no traction. A scene of them training for battle wouldn't have killed the pacing or been completely irrelevant to the plot. But there was an unwritten rule that "kid's movies" couldn't exceed a certain 90 minute timeframe. Besides, who wouldn't want to see more footage of the Turtle suited stuntmen in action? Though, I'll agree the actual ending they intended (the one where April and Casey sell the story to a comic book company) would have been unnecessary. Too bad stingers after the credits didn't exist back then.
One aspect I LOVED about the cut scenes on the farm, was the completion/inclusion of Mikey's emotional arc in the film, a plotline that was essentially cut out entirely when they removed those parts: Towards the very start of the film, when Mikey and Donnie are waiting for the pizza in the sewer, Don tries to prompt Mike: "Do you ever think about with Splinter, y'know...not having him around?", and Mikey noticeably ignores the question, responding about the pizza guy being late...So then, cut to later on, at the farmhouse...Mikey, the 'lighthearted, comedic relief' turtle...has the biggest breakdown of them all. There's the cut scene where he destroys the barn working out, screaming and bugging out...then, even in the finished film, there's a scene of a turtle from afar, seen on the edge of a cliff in moonlight, screaming "SPLINTERRRR!"...it's Michaelangelo, but bc they cut out his other parts here, they overdub the scene with Raphael's voice in the finished cut...then, once again, a scene that's left in the finished cut, but doesn't make any sense with the other parts removed...Casey and April are sitting together, they see Mikey walk in, and at first seem very tense...then he picks up the "Turtle Wax", makes a joke about it, but very quiet, mumbled...like he's justtttt starting to turn back to the old Mikey...and boh Casey and April sigh in relief, like, "*phew*....he's comin' back, we got him...". I realize this video was more specifically about the TRAINING sequences, blindfold etc, but being that the Mikey scenes are from the same VERY cut-up section (supposedly because of the 'darkness', the same reason the original director was fired, despite the fact that he hands-down made the best Turtle film in existence thus far...sigh....[Sorry, I realize this is a long ramble, and I apologize if I clogged the thread up...but I just always thought this was such a missed opportunity, the more I learned about it...]
I always hated that they cut Mikey's character development. Yeah he's the jokester, but a lot of people like that are just using it as a cover. I wish they would have shown his absolute melt down in the barn and not overdubbed Raph yelling for Splinter. If they would have shown it, it also would have added more weight to why he was the one crying in the camp fire scene.
@@shawnconder4984 Yes, I am totally with you...and good call on his tears in the campfire scene! I forgot about that. Raph had always been my fav, so I was fine that he got a lot of focus in the first film...but the point being, there was plenty of room for the rest of the turtles to get some, too...and Michaelangelo being the one that probably deserved/needed it the most...a shame. Side note: Have you ever listened to the Director's Commentary?? Bizzarely, its only on the German DVD, but thankfully, its up online with instructions on how to sync it up with the English DVD, so you can play them together...wanna try that out soon
@@shawnconder4984 I would have liked a more on screen well rounded Mikey character for sure, but as a kid even with these scenes gone it DID feel like we got one, at least I felt it when I was younger. I always wondered it was Raph's voice screaming for Splinter at the top of the farm though, when clearly Mikey's weapons were visible on his belt....part of the cut story arc as you mentioned.
@@AnthonyPearson4JesusofNazareth Of course! It was Steve Barron, still credited (thankfully) in the final cut. I went back to make sure I had my facts straight, and while there’s some conflicting/unclear info, it seems like he was there for the majority of the film, and then they “completed production” without him…not totally sure if that means there were scenes they shot without him, or if it was just post-production. They did kick him off, though. They also fired the editor, Sally Menke, who was the editor for the first 5 or so Tarantino films, so we know she’s great at what she does…it was almost like the studio wanted something not as good as what we got, lol.
If this footage exists, it should at least be released as deleted scenes. We don’t need a super long TMNT movie but it would be nice to hold on that farm sequence and see them heal together before they go back to the city
I tough we gonna get a Michelangelo scene in the barn while April talks about the turtles and Casey,it's true that this scene is more important to the movie plot, but i'd like to know more about mikey during his time at the barn.
Yes! If you want, see my long rambling post above for how they cut out Mikey's emotional arc..he seems the most carefree turtle, but he's actually the most sensitive about Splinter and the prospect of losing him...
The blindfold training is also why Michelangelo can avoid an axe being swung at his head without looking. It was supposed to explain the "I love being a turtle" moment that was in the original trailer.
What's most sad is that portions of those scenes existed in the original theatrical version, but were cut from the home video release. I saw the movie a couple times in theaters. When I got the movie sticker book later, it had a sticker of Don with the hat and piece of straw leaning on the fence and I remembered that scene very clearly at the time. Ditto with a scene of one of them turning his mask around (pretty sure it was Leo). The whole cut part wasn't a long sequence (definitely only a small bit of what was storyboarded) but it was present in the theatrical cut for sure. So the footage probably still exists somewhere.
I can never get enough Ninja Turtles especially this movie. I pray alot they give us a 4k version w every deleted scene added to the story. This will always be my #1 movie of all time
I'd say the first Turtle movie is still one of the best hero movies, possibly top 10. A rerelease of the first 3 movies with behind the scenes stuff could do very well financially
Unfortunately, it seems like except for the one generation that came of age when these movies were 'new', they are all but forgotten...not to sound cliche, but the more I read and ask around, to anyone who has grown up with CGI being the norm, anything with 'guys in suits' is essentially just considered a b-movie now, a joke...it's a bloody shame. Don't know what they are missing. I was watching just the isolated clip of Splinter talking to Raphael about his rage..."turned inward, it is an unconquerable enemy"...and I don't know if it was just the day I was having, or nostalgia, or what, but I actually found myself TEARING up! Not too many 'hero' movies can have that effect on me...
@@mywhychromosome it's a shame as suits can look really good many times can look better than CGI like with Gone With the Wild or the DCEU. Considering the time and small movie budget it might at times look better than some of the MCU

Right. These kids don't know anything about being able to actually touch and feel the turtles, and that it's so much cooler that they weren't created on a computer. When you watch the old turtles, you see 6' walking, talking butt-kicking turtles and not dudes in a spandex motion-capture suit. I heard somewhere that those suits weighed upwards of 70 pounds.
@@KootenaiKing yeahh; well said. And yeah, there's some great articles out there with some of the actors who played the turtles talking about the suits, the weight, and how inside the head of the suits with the animatronic mouths, it was buzzing and "as loud as grand central station"
They always missed Michelangelo. When they're at the house April talks about all of the Turtle's except Michelangelo on how he was dealing with Splinter being gone. I've always wondered why?
Damn... I wish they release a director's cut with all the scenes included....at least the extended training with the turtles and the shredder sitting down kicking ass

This movie is like this untouchable time capsule. You can only go back for so long, you wish there was so much more...and you can only relive the same few moments, nothing more nothing less. But it's still worth it every time
This was in the movie when I originally saw it in theaters. When we got the vhs and watched it the first time we noticed that it was missing. The scene is in the book adaptaiton. I tracked it down just to prove it existed.
Honestly I’m glad we got to know more about the movie and how much depth they were willing to put into the Scene, honestly it’s my favourite part of the movie to this day and knowing all of this, all of the efforts they wanted to put into the final cut made it that more special.
I dunno if anyone else remembers this cause I haven't looked all the way through the comments section, but when I was a kid, I thought I remembered a story book kinda one of those flat paper ones you'd get at school book fairs and things, where they had a scene like this drawn out in the 80/90's toon style with Leo pulling his mask around for this training and explaining what to do or something. @@markus5862 a really big reason why Judith Hoag wasn't in Secret of the Ooze and Turtles in Time is because a "Mystic Through-Line" in her own words, was cut out of the final movie. I never noticed it before until I watched this video but during the entire field training sequence Michelangelo bandana is sideways and he’s fighting blindfolded.
This is such an AWESOME thing to discover, and such a shame it did not make the final cut!! It's time they release this footage!!! It would make the film so much more exciting and meaningful!! I get that they most likely originally did it for pacing, but time has passed. TMNT fans of this film are older now, and would deeply appreciate these scenes being incorporated back into the film!!! It was awesome, and im confused to this day why its not in the movie. Does ANYONE else remember this??!
I first learned of this scene (and ninja hot potato) in the movie storybook and card set when I was 10, and always wished it was in the movie. Between this and a humorless Mike immersing himself in training in his grief over Splinter, it seems the training was originally a whole segment of the film, that was largely trimmed to a montage.
Wow, very interesting~ So was the training scenes with an apple and the one before actually filmed but deleted on the final version of the movie or did only it end up as a draft?
😃 Wow! I wish that I got to see those scenes in the original movie. I knew that the turtles were training hard before they returned to the city to confront the foot, but I didn't know that they were training that hard! This video shined a new light on those training scenes. 🐢🐢🐢🐢
This would had given more character developement for Leonardo, yes we get the meditation and Splinters spirit scene, but this could have been so much better, we just see a montage with everyone doing this for a few seconds, never get to know that Leonardo actually taught them all this.
That footage is gold! I'd love to have a new DVD release with the theatrical cut, a director's cut with the deleted scenes added in, as well as a separate deleted scenes section, even if some of those scenes are included in the director's cut. That way we can watch them on their own as well. Bet it would sell quite well.
Cool. If only they put the training scene with the masks turned around it would be a good chance see if they use the minds eye (to reference a Chuck Noris film)
I was young enough to enjoy the old magazines and sticker books haha and absolutely LOVE the original movie. Still brings chills seeing certain scenes. But I notice that other parts seem cut too, for example right at the start I'm sure I recall the punk pulls a knife on April, also in the epic return battle towards the end where Don skateboard attacks the Foot Raph shouts "show off" then appears to continue talking with no dialogue.
I remember reading the training scene in the Movie Comic Adaptation published by Archie Comics, and drawn by Eastman & Laird and Jim Lawson. I wish they had kept that scene in the movie.
Awesome video thank you for the update! I’m still curious about part of the farmhouse setting, while Aprils does a monolog/narration of how everyone is handling themselves she does NOT mention Michelangelo. E.G. Donatello took to Casey, and Leo watched over Raphael. What was Mikey doing?
Man, I tell you what, this is already one of my favorite movies ever but dang if it didn't just get a lot cooler after learning about that scene. Wish it got in, but either way I'll always love this movie!!!
I know that some parts of this scene is in some promotional idioms for the movie like the story book with audio tapes, the joiner novel, & in the comic.
Somehow, i'm very happy to have learnt this. And indeed, it would have brought more depth and mystic aura to the movie, at the cost of realism (it that's a thing with giant turtles ninja fighting). But i can see how all those scenes make more sense (the blind fighting in their sewer habitation following their return, the first words of splinter, saying they still have one thing to learn to reach their peak...) I wish we had those video scenes....
Duuude.. What I wouldn’t do to get an Extended Cut, with ALL of this stuff put back in (including Mikey’s little arc, which was too cut) re-mastered for a 4K Ultra HD release!… Maybe for the 35th anniverssary in 2025??? Is there anything we fans could ever do, to reach the filmmakers and make such a request/wish??? 🥰
In the official comic book adaptation of the 1990 movie, which I suggest you all read, contains several scenes that were cut out of the movie, including this scene. It has Donnie with the straw hat and Leo training while blindfolded, but unfortunately doesn't contain the other scenes.
I asked my parents for a copy of that book for Christmas. Fingers crossed that I get it. I heard lots of positive things about it. UPDATE: My Christmas wish came true! I got a copy of Ken Scott's book . Looking forward to reading it in the new year.
I’d be curious to know wether or not the voice actors recorded dialogue for these sequences. I’m sure there’s recorded dialogue by the temp voices that were in the deleted ending (Henson puppeteers?)
Kudos for the storyboard share. It should be a playable onscreen feature alongside the movie on an official Golden Harvest, Henson, Independent artists' retrospective edition box set with merch to increase collector market interest(toy, badge, card collectors etc.)
Love this scene, and it would have been fantastic to see even more ,the sideways masks are shown but not for long ,so more of that technique using sences would be great ,all the cut parts would be amazing to see in a future cut release wow that would be unreal, great video love any tmnt news and info

Between this and a humorless Mike immersing himself in training in his grief over Splinter, it seems the training was originally a whole segment of the film, that was largely trimmed to a montage.
Cool there is much more to this than I initially knew about
Wow, very interesting~ So was the training scenes with an apple and the one before actually filmed but deleted on the final version of the movie or did only it end up as a draft?
😃 Wow! I wish that I got to see those scenes in the original movie. I knew that the turtles were training hard before they returned to the city to confront the foot, but I didn't know that they were training that hard! This video shined a new light on those training scenes. 🐢🐢🐢🐢
Absolutely one of the best Tmnt videos on the internet! This is my favorite movie and you made me look at it differently. Crazy.
I’m actually going to rewatch this film tonight and review it.
Love all the news about the original movie, the best interpretation still
Awesome. I’ve been waiting yeeears for more info on this! 🙏
I only want one thing for christmas, a TMNT 1990 directors cut featuring this content. Not a big ask!
Duuude! Thank you for this! Always looking forward to these new updates!
I'd have to admit this is the best one. I Like real not computer 💪👍
They should have totally kept that in the movie that's awesome thanks I never heard of this
Such a huge fan! The 1990 movie is by far the best TMNT movie
Thank you for this! Never knew the details about this scene
I feel like they left out a lot from what they wanted in the movie. Would be awesome to get a deleted scenes version
I remember reading the training scene in the Movie Comic Adaptation published by Archie Comics, and drawn by Eastman & Laird and Jim Lawson. I wish they had kept that scene in the movie.
i love finding out more and more info about my favorite movie of all time
There is parts of the training in the comics adaptation of the movie. I remember when Leo is covering his eyes and beat his brothers.
I feel the original is a masterpiece as is. But this is interesting, wouldn't mind seeing it.
I hope we get a deep dive TMNT special edition home release with the german commentary and a slew of deleted scenes. That would make my LIFE.
I just watched the movie on hbo max and noticed Michelangelo’s headband was covering his eyes
Great video! Just when I thought I knew everything about TMNT 1990! Thanks!😁👍🏻
Long time ago we was thinking it was a Movie Mistake that the Bandanas are not in positions
*hehehehe*
Wow, I knew there was more to the farmhouse seen but I had never seen images of the blindfolded Turtles. Where did you get that footage?
Wow. An extended version was screaming (--------) to be made.
Thank God i have a copy of the screenplay
How does one get that?
I wish they would have put this in the movie. It would have been a great scene
It makes sense that there would be training that they would be doing aside from what we see
Great video, thank you so much!
KEN SCOTT WHO PORTRAYED RAPHAEL IN TMNT 1990 HAS A BOOK CALLED BECOMING THE REEL RAPHAEL IT LOOK'S PRETTY DOPE LOTS OF DETAILS ABOUT THE FIRST MOVIE.
I asked my parents for a copy of that book for Christmas. Fingers crossed that I get it. I heard lots of positive things about it. UPDATE: My Christmas wish came true! I got a copy of Ken Scott's book . Looking forward to reading it in the new year.

Pretty good stuff, honestly i love this things. Thanks a lot 😄
Man this is pure awesomeness!
They HAVE to released a directors cut!
#releaseTheTMNT90MovieCut
I’d be curious to know wether or not the voice actors recorded dialogue for these sequences. I’m sure there’s recorded dialogue by the temp voices that were in the deleted ending (Henson puppeteers?)
Please, please release an Extended Edition with all the deleted scenes! Make it flow like the LOTR Ext. Editions!
I really hope all this is in another version they release one day...
You can tell Raph absolutely loves his brother Leo.
Kudos for the storyboard share. It should be a playable onscreen feature alongside the movie on an official Golden Harvest, Henson, Independent artists' retrospective edition box set with merch to increase collector market interest(toy, badge, card collectors etc.)
That's pretty radical! Awesome!
Bruh- I needed to see this.
Love this scene, and it would have been fantastic to see even more ,the sideways masks are shown but not for long ,so more of that technique using sences would be great ,all the cut parts would be amazing to see in a future cut release wow that would be unreal, great video love any tmnt news and info
We need an extended version
Sounds awesome 👏
Well......That was just pure awesomeness
great work thank you !
AWESOME Video!!!! 👍
Soooo in love w this channel ❤#bringback80stmnt
Great video!
I remember having the audiobook as a kid. I remember it saying that Leo turns his headband around
Amazing. Would of been nice to see this scene
