Thank you. Since this is my first time growing spinach, I wasn't even sure what I thought were seeds really were seeds. I got around 100 seeds from just 3 plants I allowed to bolt. Now that I know how to save the seeds I don't think I'll ever have to buy spinach seed again.
we thought all our spinach got eaten off before it came up this year, and the weeds had taken over that row. I went in to check on things and saw seed stocks, oh look! we did get some spinach! not much... but enough to save the seeds
I like your ''seed cleaner''! A woodworker here too. I'm gonna have to build one of those! Maybe hook-up a variable speed controller with an a/c fan, for different size seeds.
Yes, I keep watering, but only at the base of the plant. You don't want them to die. However, I stop a few days before harvest as I don't want the soil wet.
No, they naturally lost their ability to take up water. So I keep watering at the base every few days. Once I notice they are drying out thoroughly due to lack of uptake, I stop watering, knowing within a week or 2 it will be time to harvest.
@@valeriehowden471 Ok will do it. Since it's already built, it will just be a walk around with measurements and how I did it rather than showing the build
I did water it up to about 2 weeks before harvest. The plants stop the ability to take up water. so even if you watered it, the root system won't draw it up to the plant. I don't overhead water so the top of the plant dried up nicely.

I always enjoy a straight to the point video that doesn't make the project look like rocket science. I really liked the seed cleaner.
I agree 👍💯
Thanks for wisdom . I appreciate your video🙂

I plan on doing a how to on that. The fan is from a computer case.
Fascinating! Thanks for sharing...love the seed cleaner 😂
Great idea to collect spinach seeds. Thanks sir🙏🙏🙏
You're welcome
Thank you for the vid! Was wondering when I can get the seeds from my spinach that decided go bolt 💀
Hi. Great vid! May I know what variety of spinach this is? Also when do I stop watering my spinach if I also wanna harvest the seeds?
Great information ,thanks what about watering when we’re going to saving seeds??
Yes, I keep watering, but only at the base of the plant. You don't want them to die. However, I stop a few days before harvest as I don't want the soil wet.
Awe....yes .. thank you so I picked mine too early cuz they weren't as dark.
Thank you
Very informative video.Do we continue to give water to spinach plant when it starts giving seeds ? Pls guide
Autumn M it’s due to age I see the seeds on the plants .
He says keep watering but only at the base and stop a day or two before if you don’t want the soil wet.
Can you pull the stocks when they are green and let them dry out?
I would be hesitant unless you are certain they are very close to turning
Can I harvest seeds from hybrid variety of spinach?
Yes but they probably won't produce the same as the original plant
Did you stop watering once they started to bolt? Or did you water after bolting? Is that how they dried out by stopping the water?
No, they naturally lost their ability to take up water. So I keep watering at the base every few days. Once I notice they are drying out thoroughly due to lack of uptake, I stop watering, knowing within a week or 2 it will be time to harvest.
@@Growyourheirlooms thank you I’m a new gardener
Now all my spinach plants started seedlings, when can I stop watering the plant? Any suggestion?
What do you mean started seedlings? Are you saying they produced seeds? If so then I keep watering them until a few days before harvesting the seeds
Never saw that seed saver device. Maybe you could give us the 50 cent tour.
I'll probably do a "how to" build on it soon
@@Growyourheirlooms yes, please and thanks in advance!

The chaff separator is amazing. Clever design. Please make a how to video on creating one.
Hey, would love to see the how to on that. Looks great!
How is your spinich so tall? Does the seed part get tall after all the leaves have been used?
Yes. When it bolts and goes to seed it gets very tall
Where did you get your seed cleaner from?
I built it. I'm going to be posting a build video soon
Wait what camera are you filming on I didn’t see the link?
That was the Sony DSC-RX100 VII
Do you let them dry out in the ground? Or could you pull them out and let them dry out that way?
I don't pull them as I risk harvesting too early. Though I guess you could but I just never have
Did you stop watering it on purpose? It's next to healthy plants though
Thanks for this!
You're welcome
Excellent, thank you!

How did you get it to this dry?

@@Growyourheirlooms mine just won't dry up. I planted it on the floor, next to healthy plants so water seeped over and kept it alive
@@n0o0n if the seeds are fully there, i would pull the plant up and hang it to dry for a week or so. they'll be fine
Nice seed cleaner man! Did you make that yourself?
Thanks, Yes I did
