How does Luke Skywalker DIE in Legends? 🤨

- Most people can agree that the way Luke Skywalker died in the Sequel trilogy was very underwhelming and disappointing.
But how did he die in the Legends Expanded Universe?
Well, we actually don’t know.
You see as of the recording of this video, there is no information or explanation in Legends as to how Luke Skywalker dies?
But we do know that he eventually dies between the years 45 ABY and 130 ABY which means Luke lived to be around 69 to 149 years old!
And we also know that when he died, he instantly became a Force Ghost like Obi Wan and Yoda.
But even as a Force Ghost, Luke continued to help and guide the Jedi Order for many years, even showing up decades later to support his descendant Cade Skywalker!
He's about 65 in the final book featuring him. He fully reestablished the Jedi order and by that time had about a thousand Jedi knights. He reestablished the Jedi council, and had a fully rebuilt temple on Coruscant.
He accomplished soo much
This is exactly what we should have gotten in the Sequels.

Luke never gave up on his father, who slaughtered kids, and millions of innocents. Why would he give up on his own nephew because of a bad dream? If you like this writing, you don't understand who Luke Skywalker is
Agreed. They absolutely ruined his character
Preach it brother
His father wasn't his responsibility. Luke didn't train his father. He never met his father until he was steeped in the Dark Side and had already commited countless atrocities, nothing he could do would undo those acts. And yet his still nearly killed his father before redeeming him.
His nephew was Luke's responsibility. Luke helped train him as a child. Luke felt the dark future (because seeing the future is LITERALLY a Force Power, it's called Farseeing, so referring to it as a bad dream seems pretty disrespectful to one of the most powerful Force Users to exist) that was possible for his nephew, dozens of atrocities that had not yet come to be, but that could if he allowed them to pass. Yet even with that, he only considered taking action against his nephew for an instinctual moment. But that was enough.
Luke is literally on the other side of the situation with his father than he was with his nephew. The fact people seem not to understand this difference is not surprising. Also, if you accept that Luke is more powerful later on than he is in Return of the Jedi, then you must agree that people grow and change over time, or else you are openly hypocritical. Luke in a New Hope would mqke different decisions than Luke from Return of the Jedi because there is a difference of experience between those points in his life, for better or for worse. I can agree that The Last Jedi didn't do a fantastic job explaining why Luke is different, but to expecting Luke to be and act the same as the last time we saw him is frankly improbable.
@@josephperez2004Still bad writting. Even if I take seriously the event who develop this (Luke almost killing Ben, what makes no sense because he can left out his fury i'm the fight with Vader. An older and wiser version should not easy fall for that) isn't factible Luke just exiles himself and abandon his friends
That wasn't character development, it's a total rewriting of the character.
Anyways The Last Jedi is that bad what it waste filming time in two uselles subplots (Pol rebelry and Finn quest) instead of trying explain the Luke perspective in a more convincing way.
@@francopaoloni4701 Two points I want to add briefly. One, in RotJ, Luke does give into his anger at least twice, once with the emperor, where he is only stopped by Vader (otherwise he would’ve killed Palpatine in cold blood) and again when Vader is down on the ground and Luke is swinging frantically at him until he sees Vader’s mechanical parts and realizes his mistake. Two, this post is about Luke’s death in TLJ, which I think fits Luke’s character pretty well - once Luke shows up, he apologizes to Kylo and saves all the good guys, sacrificing himself so they can live on. That sounds more like the definition of a true Jedi to me than murdering all the bad guys.
Personal head canon: Luke gathers his students young and old, giving a partial farewell telling them not to be sad as he'll return soon. He hops into his now very old X wing with R2 by his side as they leave the temple and head back to Tatooine. When they arrive, they're greeted by 3P0, who'd gotten a personal ride to see them. They all walk the streets as Luke looks around seeing visions of Ep 4. Eventually arriving at the farmhouse where he grew up. They have one last meal together as Luke imagines him his wife, aunt and uncle, Han, Leia, a baby Ben Solo, Chewy, R2, 3P0, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, Padme and Anakin all together. And at sunset he walks outside where he stares at the binary sunset as the force ghosts of Leia, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Qui gon, and Anakin gather around him. As Anakin asks "You ready Son?" Luke replies "Ya I am." His robes fall as all that remains is a force ghost of Luke then the scene ends with him uttering "May the force be with us all."
Nice
This should be canon
Thanks asshole now I'm crying!
Good enough for me. 👍
Bro made a better death scene than Disney…which isn’t hard but god damn that was good

What irks me 😖 in 2010s The Force Awakens, Luke & the story, plot drives to having him flash in, save the day & be a big hero. It was a simple, great way to set him up. Like how he is in the Mandalorian series S1 end. A big show of his immense power.
Should have been Puke Skywalker
I'm guessing 149 is probably the more accurate death age, just because it is canon that force sensitives live longer. And honestly, 150 is probably on the low end for how long the force could help extend Luke's life given how powerful he is in Legends.
The funniest thing is that, Disney never made Luke Skywalker reform the Jedi Order and now there are no Jedi left.
OMG, people are so stupid, I didn't mean it was ACTUALLY funny.
Sadly, they're making plans for a Rey New Jedi Order movie. As if they didn't already have a New Jedi Order people wanted to see on the big screen

In legends he was the Grandmaster of the Order, and died a heros death.
In Disney he was old man yelling at cloud, and died a pointless death

As someone who stared into that sunset alongside Luke, back in 1977, I say that Luke never died, and never will.
Legends Luke is the greatest hero in all of fiction.
It would be cool that Luke as son of the chosen one, the most powerful Jedi Luke, he's so special that...he's still is able to grab things, hug someone, use the force, and use a lightsaber like a normal living person, and and impact the living world like a living organism would, but still remains a force ghost.
Everything in Disney Star Wars is underwhelming

I think people just hate Luke’s sequel death because of how his character was up to that point. His death really wasn’t that bad. I mean he projects himself halfway across the galaxy to faux fight kylo and gives the resistance time to escape. People say they wanted to see the powerful Luke like we did in mando and we got it. This shows his power.
I can agree to an extent. What he did with projecting himself was powerful but it was overlooked by his characters bad writing in those films

The sequel trilogy really ruined my Interest in Star Wars movies. In hindsight the prequels ain't that bad.
Legends ignores a huge part of who these characters were supposed to be: revolutionaries.
Fr. They care more about others than what star wars really always was. It's about the skywalkers. Other expanded stuff is nice from time to time, but most legends supporters forget what it's about. They think their old republic characters are superior to the skywalkers and ahsoka and think they can easily be beat when George Lucas himself stated Anakin is the strongest and the chosen one. Not luke
@@TheRealAnakinSkywalker66nah bra there’s no way people are saying Ashoka is stronger then Anakin. It would be a good fight maybe even a hard challenge but that would be all due to her knowing most of his moves like obi wan but other then that nah
Yeah, they won the revolution in their 20/30s and rebuilt the New Republic and the Jedi order. When the old continuity was cancelled, Luke was about 65.
And that's just not true. Han & Leia, and others act never give up their revolutionary spirit throughout all of Legends
I see your point but to be fair, they won their revolution and needed to build a new galaxy
@TheRealAnakinSkywalker66 No. Anakin WOULD have been more powerful than Luke if he had reached his full potential. Luke literally has. The man was stabbed and was tangling with Abeloth and was healing himself faster than the wounds could cripple him, he fought Abeloth AND three powerful Sith at the same time. Yes, Anakin was the Chosen One but he didn't reach the full potential of what he could become whereas Luke did
"disappointing" is a rather polite way of saying "complete and utter tripe"
This is precisely why I like the sequels better than Legends. Legends reduces an entire dimension to Luke, Han and Leia. And don't get me started on their obnoxious kids. If you thought Rey and Kylo Ren were bad, wait till you see how precocious Anakin solo is. Or how unoriginal characters like Jaina Solo and Mara Jade are. Luke feels like a real character in The sequels, just like he does in the original movies, instead of some plot device.
To each his own I guess. I personally loved the Young Jedi series, as well as the New Republic Era. The Yuuzhan Vong War was just absolutely nuts, and Jaycen Solo's fall to the Dark Side was just so well done.
To each their own 👍
They already realized that ALL the characters were "killed" to give them more relevance forced by others.... How disgusting that is. 😐
I actually liked his canon death tbh
Idk id prefer for his life not to be a complete shit show just to highlight him finally fighting for something again to make the death “impactful”
@@Steven-hc1vy from a storytelling standpoint one could argue that Luke ending up the way he did wasn’t good writing but from a realistic standpoint I’d say it WAS because realistically no normal person remains the same as they are in their youth all the way into their elderly years it’s just not realistic PLUS Luke realized he was wrong for staying on the island (with a bit of help from Yoda’s persuasion but still) and sacrificed himself so that the Resistance and the Jedi would live on so do tell me how is that not impactful?
@@alphaxan8175 the difference is it’s Luke. If it were anybody else sure, but Luke is the embodiment of hope and perseverance no matter how dark the situation is. I liked Legends...except when it dealt with Luke, Han and Leia, and by extension, their kids and Mara Jade. Legends treats the characters that remain canon much better.
Legends books were where it was at!
Legends has the best books. Luke was the goat and I like how his son is powerful as well. Ben is one of my favs
@@StarWars_Insider I liked Legends in the prequel era, before the clone wars cartoon, when the clones were fully aware of the betrayal. Also I miss old Boba Fett, although I'm one of the few people that saw Book of Boba Fett for the masterpiece it was, mirroring the legends book The Mandalorian Armor. But tbh, I'm just still mad at how everyone missed the point of all of the Star wars movies, especially the prequels and sequels. Most people who like the prequels don't understand that they're the people being critiqued, that the prequel trilogy is a criticism of liberal bourgeois democracy, and how it will always defer to fascism, rather than side with organized labor. In the prequels, organized labor is represented by the Confederacy of independent systems.
@@StarWars_Insider I definitely don't wanna shit on legends, I just feel like most of the writers for that era really didn't actually understand the source material that they were writing about compared to that of the people who are currently at the helm. The Star Wars sequels and all of the shows are very consistent with their class dialogue.
Disney has severely messed up the entire franchise. It was so much better when Lucas held the reins and also made much more sense.
In canon, he died to the equivalent of a Force Skype call
The Last Jedi showed that Luke Skywalker did not have any children and never married, but in the original Legends timeline, that was a different story.refounded the Jedi Order and trained several new Jedi including Leia, Luke eventually marries an enemy-turned-ally Mara Jade, and they have a son named Ben
He is not going to die, because he is the strongest Jedi ever (like George said) and eventually he is going to even reach his full potential and live for ever
He became a force tempest, a literal storm of living force, then became a force ghost.
I like to think he passed on the mantle to his first student, and went on one last adventure. Like riding off into the sunset
In the last Jedi he said “see you around kid”. I figured that meant in the next movie he’d be an Obi Wan type visiting Kylo and leading him towards his destiny.
Dont remember the original source material name, but i do remember that luke doesn't technically "die" he actually becomes so powerful in the force that he basically just transcends, and becomes a "force ghost" so i guess technically he is no longer "living" but he didn't die, in a traditional sense of the word.
Luke never died in the EU, which is canon not "Legends", because Lucas had just a few but very strict rules about what the writers were allowed to do. Namely Luke, 3PO and R2 could never be killed. That's it. Other than that he let the writers do whatever they wanted. Though he did provide feedback from time to time. In the New Jedi Order series they were originally going to kill Han but Lucas told the writers the fans wouldn't care enough about his death. So they killed Chewie instead.
He was shot by a Stormtrooper, while taking a shit. That's about the only way to make it more lame than Disney's version. On a more serious note, it would have to be the Father of Shadows.
Nothing else works, simply because of how powerful GM Luke was. Unless you give him the Yoda treatment ofc.
So he at least outlived his cannon version by 10 years.
actually more than that he lived around between in his 80's and 149
We don't consider the sequels "canon" anyways. Disney ruined the franchise with their "sjw" bullshit, bad actors, and terrible production.I think we can all agree on that.😂
The new Star Wars sucks. They should’ve made luke amazing. I don’t know what they did. It was horrible.
we can agree the sequel was a mess .
Legends Luke would be too OP for the Disney cannon.
Grandmaster Luke could probably defeat the entire First order army without tricks
He died between Fate of The Jedi after whipping Abeloth and the Legacy comics featuring Darth Krayt & Cade Skywalker. Legends Luke is THE GOAT 🐐
This is the thing i hate most about the Disney canon. They did the original main characters dirty and killed them off in a disappointing way. Especially Luke, who had achieved so much in Legends, became a loser in Episode 8. At least it felt like that, when i watched the movie.
Completely disagree, fast jedi Luke's death was good, after all he used a dark side ability that strains the body, and he did at such a distance, plus his body wasn't use to the force as once was cause he cut himself off from it fir years
He died when Disney bought Star Wars haha
At least Legends respected the characters, given them many new stories and adventures, unlike a certain corrupt company *coughs* Disney
I can sum
Up the entire Disney Star Wars trilogy with six words "that's not how the force works"
We don't know how Luke died in the EU, and that's how it should be.
Too many writers succumb to the notion that they need to kill off their character, and that is simply not true. Now, obviously, it depends on the story and the character. However far too many times have I seen a character death that was underwhelming at best, infuriating at worst and all too often completely unnecessary.
More writers need to understand that oftentimes, no definitive ending they can create will be as satisfying as positive ambiguity. Seeing our hero ride off (or in Luke's case fly off in his X-Wing) into the sunset with the promise of more adventure is what I would argue most fans really want to be the last image of that character.
If I had made the Sequel Trilogy, that would've been Luke's fate. Luke would've also once again been the main protagonist. Yes, there would've been new characters to pass the torch to, but ultimately, Luke would still have been the main focus, and as I said before, he would've flown off into the twin sunset.
Honestly, Star Wars/Disney now lost a core of fans with Luke’s treatment.
Luke Skywalker was killed by a 'woke socialite'. A very dangerous monster indeed.
My head canon is that he lived to nearly 100, he became 1 with the force, much like Yoda, resting in bed, surrounded by family and friends. Not as flashy as dying in battle or sacrificing himself to save the galaxy yet again, I know, but I feel after an entire life of saving the day, he deserves rest
Actually this would be amazing. Now we know Yoda's full life so his passing with Luke by his side has much more impact. He had seen so much. He'd seen friends die in Order 66 and old age, a student became the most powerful Sith and trained his son to do different.
Any way of Luke's passing with his loved ones around would be beautiful. A confirmation that he did right and by the end of it all, Anakin did brought balance to the force.
He did not die, force telaport. If they can telaport a lightsaber. Why not telaport a person.
🤔
Well in the sequel trilogy, I call Luke’s cause of death as “overdosing on the force”
What disney did is unforgivable, what they continue to do i dont know who the hell they are making it for anymore
If he died in 45 ABY, he would’ve been 64 years old. He was 19 at the Battle of Yavin.
please do more legends content. I can't speak for other star wars fans but disney completely trashed the star wars brand and I only consider the content that is considered legends or pre-disney content to be actual star wars.

It’s a shame that Legends makes Luke so over powered because he is a cool character but it’s not really enjoyable to have a character that overwhelmingly strong be the center point of all the legends lore.
If they did legends it would revive Star Wars franchise.💯
I'd imagine he just died of old age assuming nothing bad happened since then.
Any one of these stories is a hundred times better than the lousy trilogy that Disney gave us.
I just hope he won't have the problems and old man has as a force ghost
