    Just flown mine, dam it's so so good. I have been flying rc gliders and planes since I was 15 years old. I am now 50.. as long as anyone can get to grips with the left and right reversing when the plane is coming head one. Then no joke, any one can fly :) I wish there was this tech when I was a young man, it would saved many planes. Put it on expert and you have a lively jem, your be on the sticks all the time:)

      Hi Jay! Yeah, I love that tiny Mustang ;-) What fun these Micro Warbirds are. I'm going to be doing a Brushless Conversion on mine as it's time to replace the Motor & Gearbox. If it flies as well after the Conversion I'll be a Happy Camper ;-) I've been flying RC Planes now for approx. 5 years. I wish I would have had time for this Hobby at a much younger age. I've got you by 8 years young Man ;-) Have fun and I'll see you in the Air!

    Right on GC. Good advice for any rc plane. Don't have this p51 yet....but I finally got the big brother, the Volantex 768-1.
    That company you warned me about never shipped the plane so after 3 weeks PayPal refunded my money. Ordered another from a California outfit on eBay and received it today. Paid $112.99. Already have it assembled and went through all of the checks you mentioned in you video.
    Thanks for another informative video!

    Very good review and tips for the EAchine Mini P-51D plane. I'm still waiting for mine to arrive. By the way, I pre-ordered the new Eachine Mini F4U EPP 400mm Wingspan 2.4G 6-Axis Gyro, it looks awesome at a great price.

      Thank you much! With a few tweaks this handles very well in manual mode ;- I saw that Mini F4U and thought, "Man! I can't afford another Plane ;-)" It does look very cool and I love the old Warbirds. I think they have found these Micro Plane to be very popular indeed ;-) Hopefully they'll come out with a few more. See you in the Air!

Would like to see your eval of that one too. What about the other Volantex/Eachine mini series? I want more. Heard a T28 is in the pipeline, but not sure. - Jim

    Hi: Am I correct that you never grew fond of the big brother 768-1? I have the 761-4 Sport Cub 500 and thought 768-1 would be a nice upgrade (mainly due to brushless motor and larger, hence easier to see in sky) but I trust your reviews too. It seems you thought the 768-1 had some flaws so maybe I should try the little brother 761-5 you reviewed here? Thanks!!

    • @GroundControlRC

      It's Big Brother is a beautiful Plane, but it does need some work to get flying the way I like it to fly. Most of the Factory Planes I've owned do need some work to get flying the way I would like but the larger P51D a bit more work ;-) See you in the Air!

    Hi GC. I just received my p51 today, I bought it on the strength of your reviews. Looks great but I haven't flown it yet.
    I think I'll remove the landing gear on mine to save weight but just concerned about CG... Where would the optimum CG be in your opinion?
    Also... you mentioned possibly putting the Aileron links in the top holes in the 'maiden' video. Did it help?
    Thanks.

    • @GroundControlRC

      Paul, congrats on receiving this plane. I'm having a blast with it and will have some more videos posted on this plane in a couple of weeks. Are you going to fly in Manual Mode? I mostly fly in Manual Mode but the Beginner Mode is a blast as well. I don't really care for the MID Position Gyro. I decided not to move the Aileron Linkage as I thought it would make it too twitchy so I'm just living with the Slow Roll Response ;-) I did move the Elevator Linkage from the Elevator Control Horn Middle Hole to the Bottom Hole and I like that a lot. It added quite a bit of additional resolution on the Elevator and really tamed the Elevator in Manual Mode but still gives plenty of authority for pretty tight Loops and Split-S Maneuvers ;-) The Stock CG seems to be fine and it flies nice and level in Manual Mode after Trimming. I did have to Mechanically Trim the Elevator Linkage a bit as it wanted to climb when switching to Manual Mode. I put mine in a completely Neutral Position, making sure I had it in Manual Mode beforehand so the Gyro didn't move the Servo. I also had one Aileron that was a bit high if I remember corrected and Mechanically Trimmed that as well. If you're going to be moving your Elevator Linkage like I did, I would do that first before Mechanically Trimming the Elevator. Yeah, wish I had a nice grassy area to land in and I would remove my Landing Gear as well. Sorry to rattle on but I wanted to give as much info as I could. Let me know how you like it and ask any questions and I'll try to give you a correct answer ;-) See you in the Air!

      @@GroundControlRC Hi GC, I maidened it just an hour ago... and it is just as good as you have all been saying. Had a blast!
      Nice wide speed range and flight envelope, extremely manueverable, nicely geared and the prop saver is a killer feature that Volantex/Eachine would do well to keep.
      I flew around in top and mid mode for the first lipo then tried manual for the second, it immediately went into a steep climb, stalled, went in nose first and broke the prop. I'd trimmed it all mechanically but it seems that stab mode trim is different from manual.
      Trim it for level flight in manual mode it wants to dive in stab mode or trim it in stab mode and it wants to climb in manual.
      Might be wrong but I suspect with my undercarraige removed my cog is far more rearwards than with it... as it feels like it needs an extra few grams in the nose to have any stability.
      It seems that the slow roll rate is perhaps due to the gyro still fighting it after the roll is activated or is it pretty slow in manual also?
      If I can get it to fly well in manual I'll definately be using that for training as I think stability mode is a bit of a crux that I'd be best not getting too used to... but its probably best reserved for still days for my beginner skill level.
      I've ordered some 360 mAh lipos which are aprox 1-2 grams heavier than stock at 11g, so that might help a tad..
      Thanks for all your tips and advice, I'll work through it if its a still morning tomorrow.. :)

      @@paulhope3401 , I'm glad you had a very successful Maiden. My Trim was the same for Stab Mode as it was for Manual Mode but I did recalibrate the Gyro. I had the Plane in Manual Mode when doing the Mechanical Trim so the Gyro wasn't moving the Servos. In Gyro Mode it was nice and level and when switching to Manual Mode the 1st time, mine climbed as well, but it seems not as steeply as yours did. After Mechanically Trimming the Elevator it was nice and level in Stab Mode as well as Manual Mode. I always hand-launch in Stab Mode and then switch to Manual Mode and now no surprises when switching between Modes. You may be right regarding the CG without the Landing Gear. I've had mine attached for every flight. I just checked my CG with the Stock LIPO and Landing Gear attached and it has a Neutral CG between the Main Wing Spar and where the Screws secure the Landing Gear. That's approx. 108mm from the front of the Prop Spinner. The Rolls are still very slow in Manual Mode. I think the most wind I've flown in Manual Mode is around 7mph. It was a lot of fun but can be a bit abrupt at times when the wind is gusting ;-) Let me know how it goes an have fun with this Plane. I'm liking it a lot ;-) See you in the Air!

    • @paulhope3401
      @paulhope3401 4 роки тому

      @@GroundControlRC Thanks, thats really helpful. My cg is a few mm in front of the main spar exactly in line with where the battery compartment meets the foam.. so mine is possibly a mm or 2 behind yours which might make some sense of the difference.... although admittedly, I hadnt calibrated the gyro. Hey, I'm sure I'll get there though.
      Regarding roll rate.. I'm gonna try increasing the aileron throws by using the top hole. Hopefully the gyros effective gain increase wont be too much... and also the resolution wont be affected too drastically. .. at least its reversible.
      Last resort would be to chop 5-10mm off each wingtip... Roll rate and speed should increase but in another sense it would be a real shame to do it due to the scale look being somewhat gone and the stall speed increasing... but I guess I can just replace the wing if I dont like the direction I've gone in.
      I'll keep you posted . Thanks again!

    I've been flying one of these for a few weeks now and just adore it. Thanks for all your vids/tips/tricks - was a big part in putting me on the thing. Couple of things I've done... I opened the hole in the nose (upward towards the prop center into U or V shape) just a bit to see if that would let more air pass along the motor. I do grass landings and don't live in a dry climate, so dirt is of minimal concern. I'm unsure how effective the increased flow will be considering it's the internal rotor that carries the bulk of the thermal load. Also, I've taken to cleaning the gear(s) with a small amount of Isopropyl alcohol and a soft toothbrush every few hours - still operating very smoothly! I'm curious how long the brushed motor and gearbox will last. Yours fell victim to desert dust/debris, correct? Did you ever determine if it was the motor or gearbox or both?

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  3 роки тому

      It sounds like you're having a lot of fun with this Plane ;-) Thank you for your kind words as it is much appreciated. I have not cracked it open yet but it certainly sounds like the gearbox to me. I would expect it to fail first based on the environment in which I fly. My experience with Brushed Motors is that I typically get around 100 flights before I have to replace them it they are fairly good Motors. I'd have to say I was probably close to that before the Gearbox problems started. Not bad I'd say ;-) I'm hoping to start the conversion in the next 2-3 weeks after I complete the documentation on the FlyBear SU-35 Conversion and I have another Plane to assemble and review. I hope the Brushless Conversion on this Plane turns out as well as the SU-35 ;-)

      @@GroundControlRC Looking forward to your take on a conversion. The ones I've seen eliminate the prop saver feature. If there's a way to go brushless and keep that, I'd be all in. Considering transmitter batteries: at what voltage do you recommend replacing the (alkaline) AA's?

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  3 роки тому

      @@livebyreason Thank you much! I won't be installing the Prop saver but I'm sure it could be done. I'm going to be using standard Props on the Brushless Motor as they are much less expensive to replace than the Stock Props.
      I use a larger 2S LIPO in my TX. Mine is a Zippy 2S 1300mah LIPO. It fits in the TX16S nicely and the TX has a 2S Balance Port so no adapter is needed.

    Hey there brother! We talked a few months ago and I enjoyed your review..
    I have nearly 200 trouble-free flights over the past few months..Alas this brushed motor is near its life expectancy..It doesn't pull the same torque in barrel rolls or high banking turns..
    Do I crack the fuselage with a razor and replace the 10mm motor or spring for another at $75..I have an idea how the gears and motor are set under that EPP but don't exactly know where the "sweet spot" is to access the drive system..
    200 flights is a true testament to how this bad boy endures!!!
    Peace man!

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  3 роки тому

      Wow! That is a lot of flights for a brushed motor. I think my record is just over 100 flights. I guess they are getting better and better just like their brushless Cousins ;-) I had someone else ask this same question, except, I think they were going to replace the Gearbox. Since the seam of the Fuselage runs top and bottom. You could use a razor to cut along both seams or use some alcohol to loosen up the glue. The alcohol may remove some of the paint though. It looks to me like the Motor and Gearbox have to be forward of the Battery Bay. So when it comes time for me to do the same thing I will most likely open it up along those seams. You see where the line is that goes over the Nose and all the way to each Wing? I think I would removed the Battery Hatch by loosening up the glue and cut right along that line to completely remove the Nose and the two halves of the Nose so installation of the Motor and / or Gearbox would be easy and then just glue the Nose and the Battery Hatch back onto the Fuselage. I think that may be the easiest way to do it. You have to be careful when you cut though because the Receiver Wires going to the Motor have to cross that line. I hope that helps. It will be a bit or work but the Motor replacement would be pretty inexpensive. See you in the Air!

And for beginners is awesome to learn and then flight the mig15 I saw a vid. And yes it’s very cool.
