- The Frank Gehry design for the Louis Vuitton Foundation building was certainly innovative. But from a structural engineering perspective, there was nothing to suggest it was actually possible.

We have a Gehry building in Cincinnati. It is the Vontz Center at the University of Cincinnati. Every year since it was completed there has been scaffolding up somewhere around the outside of the building trying to fix water leaks and other problems. It is an interesting structure, but completely impractical.
Exactly what I was wondering about, water intrusion.
I agree.
And that's what you call an eyesore.
disagree, its ground breaking and pushes the limit of engineering.
I remember when I began my studies in Architecture, back in 2000, and went in full force with the innocence of the college freshman. Names like Ghery and Libenskind use to conjure images of great modern architecture. Now, many years years latter, I can’t help but roll my eyes at these turnips.
Not HOW did they build it but WHY did they build that??? Just because we can DOES NOT mean we should...........❤️
Who asked ya?!
With all the engineering challenges and infrastructure needs everywhere - why spend time, effort, and energy on fanciful stuff like this?
Inspiration is important too. If there were no architects and engineers designed houses, they would all be cubes! And that's coming from an aspiring engineer!
Creativity, new ideas, ingenuity...
Why build the pyramids?? Why paint the mona lisa?? Why forge the thinker??
…there is value in pushing the envelope….a lot can be learned, But not with taxpayer money. This was in a public area and suspect tax payers flipped the bill. Let private investment do these projects.
Because. That’s why! And don’t forget it!
What a huge waste
👍
Like your education?!
@@dionst.michael5818 No I wouldn't say so. This is just an objective waste of resources that could've gone to a better purpose - like a building that made more sense, was more functional, long lasting, solid and beautiful. This building is an exercise in a lack of common sense.
Looks hideous. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
I’m super high right now and don’t know how I got here, but I’m so glad I did. This guys work reminds me so much of Art Vandelay.
What a waste of engineering and money to create a huge eyesore .
The architect signature "Fish"
Impractical. Must have lots of money to throw around.
Must they?!
@@dionst.michael5818 it’s not going to last for a long time like the pyramids. Total waste of money.
So, basically it is just a normal building with a Frank Gehry skin? 🤔
that building is awesome
I’m awesome too! Ask anybody!
Interesting and beautiful
Why yes, yes I am! Thank you!
Waite until the first good storm. His buildings leak like a sieve.
Ah, yes. I call this piece "pile of groin guards"
Unbuildable? Gimme a break. Don't those people know that it's pretty structurous and creative? This is supposed to be a futuristic building and Gehry is the creative key to our long living future.
With magic of course 😄😂
You must have a genie in a bottle?!
It looks like a giant plastic bag
Garbage bag maybe.
A busted plastic bag.
“I’ll do YOU one better, WHY, is Gamora?!” -Drax
Thanks u
Yer welcome!
Why would anyone want to build this monstrosity?
I like it, it looks very alien.
YOU look alien!
@@dionst.michael5818 Thats simply false👽
That is one of the ugliest buildings ever
As are many (most?) other Gehry buildings.
Izzit really though, Austin?! Izzit one of the ugliest buildings, EVERRRR?!
Crumpled up piece of paper
Someone dropped acid!
Maybe it was "unbuildable" because barely anyone wanted to make such modern trash
lol
Oh yeah?! Who told ya that, Colombo?!
Nothing is unbuildable - there are only budget constraints. This is why unique and groundbreaking projects should only be privately funded. Tax payers should never participate in ventures like this.
You tell em, Big Mo! Rrraaaaaagh!
Just because it could be built doesn't mean it should have been.
They used a lot of GLUE. Get it?
I doubt you DO! Get it?! Bahahaha!
@@dionst.michael5818 Haha, nice!
Completely buildable. Just tell me when we start.
Absolutely beautiful !
Yeah, I rock! Lotsa people think so! Ask anybody!
ARCHITECTS ALL OVER THE PLANET
HAD TO RUN THE BATHROOM ❗️🙄
It will leak when it rains. All his buildings do.
Geometrically appealing but too much struts and poles
What a joke
They should have called it "unlook at able." Looks like a dead albino roach.
Please don’t use emojis in your titles
You’re hysterical!🤣🤣🤣
There are more skin than usable spaces.
🥴🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮
My thoughts exactly.
First view
Eleven thousand, four hundred and thirteenth!
4th
Eleven thousand four hundred and thirteenth! How do you like them apples?!
Unnecessary
Yes, much like your comment, doncha think?! Unnecessary! Irrelevant!Lol!
