Yes, but a darning plate would be for free motion quilting and a walking foot is used without a darning plate. The walking foot can also be used for sewing long seams.
When you are winding the bobbin if you will thread the thread through the hole in the top and hold the end up as you start winding it will wind smoothly without a twisted mess at the end. I just hold the scissor next to the thread as it starts to wind and it will cut it off neatly.
How many years would this machine last if it was used for about 15-20 hours a week? I want to upgrade my singer 6233 to something smaller and lighter but I don't want something that will break in a year or two because I sew all my own clothes and a lot of things for my daughters. What material are the gears made out of? I wore out the gears on a janome and I want something that will last many years. I also had a silver crest and it died after a year. I just want a basic machine that isn't heavy or large that will last a long time and has straight stitch and zigzag.
Do you mean the front where the bobbin is? You have to slide the arm off first and then open the little door in front of the bobbin. If your talking about the plate cover that needs to be unscrewed.
Will this machine sew through thick fabrics? I’m trying to make pillows with multiple layers plus zippers. My current machine just stops and the screen reads out that it’s overheating. Even with jeans needles. Makes me crazy because we paid a pretty penny for it. I’m trying to find a small workhorse that will do thick material. But not super expensive. The Zest seems like a good price but I don’t want to waste money on something that wouldn’t do the work. I can’t justify spending major money on one when I have a pricey one sitting there. Plus with home repairs money is tight. Thanks!
I have a Zest. Bought it since I am a beginner. I paid about 100 for mine and it is pretty good for a basic machine. It was cheaper than the Janine I looked at but definitely constructed just as good.
Is your fabric stuck too? I’ve had that happen when it all gets sucked in and won’t move anymore. So I have to cut it out, or maneuver the needle so I can pull things out and release the tension
Hey!! Do you still have the Baby Lock Zest Sewing Machine!?? I need the foot pedal if you are willing to sell. PLEASE LMK!!❤️❤️ OR can you help me FIND a pedal and plug that fits this baby lock zest!?
I do still have the machine but I don’t have an extra pedal. I suggest contacting your Baby Lock dealer and talking to them about getting a new one! Hope that helps!
Hi Wendy...picking up this machine tomorrow...can you do small quilting projects with this using the darning plate and a walking foot?
Yes, but a darning plate would be for free motion quilting and a walking foot is used without a darning plate. The walking foot can also be used for sewing long seams.
Just bought this after watching this video. Thanks!
YAY! I hope you love it so much! It’s such a great machine 🎉🎉

Thankyou so much for the great instructions for this machine .
Always always turn the hand wheel toward you which is counter clockwise!!!
Yes! That’s so true!
You need to consult with Baby Lock directly they told me you are wrong! telling people that only causes trouble for them
Thank you for the tutorial!
Thanks for watching 💛💛

Thank you for watching! 💛
Where do you cut the excess thread off
This machine doesn’t have a thread cutter but there are ones you can buy and then stick to the side of the machine! They are really nice
The bobbin needs to turn clockwise when you pull the thread when in the bobbin case correctly right?
Yes it should turn that way!
Would this machine be able to patch jeans?
Yes I think it totally would!
so helpful!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!!
You can turn your wheel up and back with NO DAMAGE to machine as of Baby lock direct
Why do you have thread coming down and wrapped around in the machine and through the needle AND along with bibbin thread? Thats 2 independent threads.
The machine works by stitching the top thread and bottom thread and looping them together to create stitches which then sews the fabric together.
How do you open the face cover
Do you mean the front where the bobbin is? You have to slide the arm off first and then open the little door in front of the bobbin. If your talking about the plate cover that needs to be unscrewed.
Does it come with a walking foot or can you buy one for that machine.
This one doesn’t come with a waking foot.

It sews really well and I think would be a great workhorse of a machine!
Great vid. Show the pedal work too.
My needle got stock I can’t move the noddle up
