A great way to get over a bad game is to go outside the day after and practice what you did bad at. It helps your mind feel like you have progressed while others sit at home stressing about their bad performance!

Nerves and the way they can affect you have been huge for me in my time playing. The higher level you go, the more consequential your mistakes seem to be, making the nerves feel even more intense. It’s good to hear how a true pro would deal with this in a game situation and then go and have a great game!

You motivate me to not give up and to keep working harder man. Thanks matt, from the bottom of my heart. I tore my ACL last year and I thought i was never going to be the same player again. I spend weeks after surgery not wanting to know anything about soccer i fell into a really chronic depression. I hated it, But I started watching your videos and after a couple of months I started playing again and I was not the player I wanted to be .But slowly I pushed myself everyday watching your videos wrorking everyday. Im currently 22, I went to Las Vegas Light try out a couple of weeks ago and out 300 players, I finished in the last 11v11 soccer game, for the try outs. Im slowly getting my confidence back and deep down I know i will make it matt & i promise if i do ill reach out to you man to give you my thanks personally.

Hello Matt, i've been watching you for a couple of years now. I found difficult for a USA soccer player to play soccer, living in a country where Football is the national sport. Here in Greece our national sport is SOCCER. We are born with soccer and live with it, live in it. I remember myself 3 years old to kick the ball. I am impressed with all the hard work, will and determination you've been putting all these years. If i had the same work ethics when i was younger, i' have been playing in the first league now. Hard work counts, but (personal opinion) it counts only when you have talent by nature. In simple words a hard working soccer player can reach 6-7 out f 10. A talented soccer player can reach 7 by simple be in the field without hard work, and 9-10 by putting the least amount of work. So talent and physical attributes (body power, stamina, height) counts in soccer. Then comes work to inhance all these things. In the specific match you had no help from the center mids, so you need NOT to loose the ball. By keeping the ball and gain a foul, or by kicking the ball towards the side line. The other team found your weak spot which is pressure high front. The only way you can deal with pressure is talent. Talent and genius not to loose the ball by the entire team.

The advice at 3:20 has really helped me sometimes. In a championship game, I was making mistakes, losing the ball on the dribble, and I just switched my mindset to pass first instead of dribble, and I had a really good game and got a goal.

Great content man. I played 3rd division myself in Mexico but I just didn't have the discipline to make it further. Having 2 retired 1st division players in the family was a priviliege but big pressure also, but I can definitely confirm from them that the most important skill to make it big is discipline. You will get better over time eventually, but the most important things are being disciplined, commited and of course FIT, which you seem to be covering. Good luck with your journey and keep updating us!
Btw, those CM's in your team were really screwing you up not being open to pass most of the time. I also played LB and LMF I can really identify being presurred against the line with almost no passing options. Good recovery on second half though.

  • @dondonoplimo

great job mentoring yourself throughout the game, especially on the first 30mins! picking yourself up before halftime means you go into the dugout with more confidence, and that usually translates into an excellent second half.

I am just thinking because you have loads of video analysis, every winger who gonna play you next could have just watched this can try to find your weaknesses. You essentially let your opposition's coaching staffs having less analysis work to do. But regardless that still is a good attitude that you are not afraid of exposing your weakness and essentially push yourself to be a better player

18:59 could have had a shot there would definitely have caught the keeper off guard

Ehhh too far out for mats left foot. The run he made mightv created a chance but playing to the winger was safer option.

Maybe, but he was being closed down so it would have been hard with his right foot and he wasn't shaped correctly for his left (which isn't his strong foot). Plus, distance.

"Offsides" is just wrong, it's an offside trap to put the player into an offside position.

Even thought your performance wasn't ideal your mids drifted way out of position or weren't getting back enough or finding space, not sure what's going on there, but their st pressured you quite well, can see him maybe playing MLS or European...?

usually these usl team presses from the front. they don't get too compact so the opposite wings aren't left with too much space. and matt likes to combine with the winger in front of him and overlap
