I stopped talking to Trump supporters about politics long ago. There is absolutely no way to get thru to them. It is an exercise in futility.
I find the best approach is to facetiously "agree" with them. For eample: "Oh yeah, all the violent ones on January 6 were BLM and Antifa, and the vandalism was a front to incriminate peaceful protestors, even though what Antifa/BLM was doing was disrupting the very election confirmation that they wanted to proceed. Makes sense!
And of course Ashley Babbitt was NOT Antifa or BLM. And Republican senators tried to block the January 6 investigations because....uhhhh..... well anyways, it all makes complete sense!"

Low inflation, high worker participation rate, wage growth was higher compared to Obama, homeownership rate was rising were it was dropping prior to Trump. And yes, the world was more peaceful under Trump. No new wars, the Abraham Accord. Things were great.

I see the same thing happening with my spouse. She will never say it out loud but if you listen to her responding to newscasts you can hear her grunting in approval or disapproval based on which President is being referred to in the story.
She even went so far as to start complaining about Joe Biden after I showed off my new aviator sunglasses that I was very proud of because I have a harder time finding glasses that fit my head.
While I know that using logic and facts is a loser's game with a cultist, I find myself constantly frustrated and flabbergasted that someone who has a master's degree from college absolutely refuses to accept that the high grocery prices are not a result of the current president.

I once got a MAGA livid when I reacted to his "trump is a great businessman" claim with the fact that he bankrupted four casinos. He first told me to "stay in my lane" because I didn't understand how business works and what it's like, and how Trump makes more money in a month than I'll make in my lifetime. I told him "OK, I'll stay in my lane. I will continue to never go bankrupt. And since Trump has bankrupted four casinos, he's also LOST more money in a month than I'll make in my lifetime." The guy then gets pissed and writes "Holy Shut your stupid!..." and continues on with about then more spelling and grammatical errors.

I will connect this to our friend caller. As a UK listener and the Brexit debate. Once people are in a quality of Dogma; their is no amount of conversation we can have. There is more to it than that. I was going to take the vaccine until I was told I was still going to have to wear a mask and still have to social distant. In the state I lived at during time even with vaccination rates being high masks were still required. So what was the point of the vaccine if we were not going to go back to normal? Also, when the vaccine became mandated it was clear covid had nothing to do with public health but about control.

Same here. Here's what I gathered though. Although the caller is not a full on Democrat, he's still a reasonable man and his family are MAGA nut jobs, and David basically says there's no hope for them.
In life I on rare occasion interreact with folks who I realize are somewhat divorced from the reality of a situation or fact because it runs contrary to their pre conceived notion of how they think the world should operate. This is a form of narcissism, and these folks can be difficult to deal with. Simple matters often get unnecessarily complicated with these folks, and nationally they hurt us all. And many seem incapable of listening. What to do?
Tell them you know damn well what the appeal of Trump is and it's despicable, disgusting, anti-American and vile. Then tell them that you will speak to them after they leave his cult and mode of thinking or never again. Their choice.

Dusty needs to find two or three friends that he meets maybe once a week at McDonald’s or Tim Hortons and they get to discuss politics. All trump did, after disbanding the White House Pandemic Response Team in 2018, was he stayed out of the way. Somehow he resisted his instinctual urge to dip into all the funding that was allotted towards fast tracking the vaccine. Research on mRNA was around since the 60's, nanotechnology brought a great breakthrough and in 2016 the Ebola Vaccine was ready. All that was basically left was to isolate the spike protein from the covid virus and mass produce the vaccine.
My friend’s son has an illness that is not covered by insurance. She voted for Trump because he was going to provide a health care package like you’ve never seen.

I think it boils down to the severe loss of trust in government. Trump is anti establishment, and that resonates with tens of millions of Americans. Even if he farts or wears diapers, in their view it is still better than any career politician. In a way, I think it’s fair to say that Trump is the byproduct of decades of politics leaving many disillusioned.
After covid many people have lost trust with many of our large institutions. I have myself. Many examples but take the recent correspondent dinner. Biden was doing a toast with the media praising the media for being the ones to give us information. Scary that the media and the government are that close.
