Elephant herd runs away.

A herd of elephant run for the hills when they see people at Kukhama waterhole in North east Botswana. The area was a hunting concession and at this time even though there was no hunting taking place, the memory got the elephants to flee immediately. #elephants #botswana

yeah, elephants don’t spook very easily, especially with little ones to protect, so something must have really un-nerved them.

The waterhole had just been reopened after a hunting ban 4 years prior to this incident. We had slept in tents at the waterhole and weren't noticed by the elephants until the last moment. So we were the first 'non hunting' people there at a now new 'non hunting' area... the elephants didn't know that yet... just assuming things were as before. Over the next few weeks the elephant herds figured it out and came to drink at their leisure.
