Ah this has helped so much thankyou!! I'm currently in year 12 but I really want to do the bbc apprenticeship and work on strictly, It's my favourite show! I'm so glad you've done this video so I know what to expect with the process, etc :)
This is really a great story to hear, I’m in my last year of college and everyone is applying for universities but I’ve come to the realisation that the education system doesn’t work for me. It’s likely that I have adhd and autism and I just struggle to pick up things in a school environment (for heck sake I’m 18 years old and still only know my 2 & 5 times tables when my peers can do them up to 12) I want to leave education behind me so I’m leaving this year and probably taking a gap while I get just a regular job so I can learn to drive and in my spare time set up a UA-cam channel and just let media become a special interest again. Then I want to apply for apprenticeships hopefully the more hands on experience will be a better way for me to learn.
I felt something similar too, I got bored being talked to constantly because it would never go in. On the apprenticeship there is still lessons similar to college but they make up a small fraction of the year and by far are worth the vast experience you get! Good luck with your application
I'm going to apply this year. I'm going to an apprenticeship fair in March and hopefully they are there because I want to talk to them before applying. I want to work for BBC in the production side, because I am very creative and good at come up ideas for shows and me and my friend is working on a few shows together for UA-cam. I would be good at filming and recognising great ideas from other people.
If you’re already a commutable distance then don’t worry with moving. So if you’re already in London stay there but if your like me and Lincolnshire then moving was my best option
I have a level 3 Btec in photography and digital imaging. Would you not recommend this apprentiship for someone like me? As ive hardly done any videography at all just all still imagery
Thank you so much for this!! I’m in sixth form and I want to do a production runner apprenticeship when I leave. Do you know if the application process is as long as complex as the ones you went through? I have no idea how to find the apprenticeships either 😭
Glad this video inspired you! A lot of the apprenticeships get posted around January-April so just keep an eye on all the career pages. I don’t know if you can do one specifically in production running. The one I did was just production which includes that. But I’m sure there could be an opportunity out there that gives you exactly that. Sometimes (the best advice I’ve got) you have to take whatever you can get to get in the door and then move your way to where you want to be.
@@James_Hancock13 thank you! Only just seen this message, sorry to ask did you do yours in London? Because I’m going to have to try and go to Salford, but I’m worried that there’s less opportunities for actually working on a production. If I was to go for any production apprenticeship, I would learn how to do it, cause I keep thinking to myself I don’t know what that is but I’d learn😭. Thank you so much, you truly don’t understand how much you’ve helped me!
I have a question for you, I got to the final 15 out of thousands but do you know how many people actually get taken on to the programme? I wasn’t successful on this occasion but I’m curious as to how it works if that makes sense. I do love your videos.
hey Euan, Did you just have your group assessment centre and interview? I think there are roughly 2 places per setting, or 100 places in total in the programme across all of the different settings. I've just had my 2:1 interview and assessment centre too in a group of 40 people, for I estimate 4 jobs. Well done on getting so far, I've got my fingers crossed but I'll have to see what they decide, there were lots of brilliant candidates and I was the first interviewee so I can't really imagine what they'll decide.
James' Studio thank you so much for your help. Also I commented on ur Instagram, so where is me follow 😂😂 I’m proper happy that you’re getting what u want x
Cant believe i commented on this vid a year ago but i have been invited to a virtual assessment centre, the final stage!! i’m so nervous and i don’t know what to expect since i also lack creating ideas from fresh, is there any advice specifically for this part?
I was the exact same I didn’t believe I had new ideas but I was able to come up with a rough idea but then what made me stand out was I found a way to combine the groups individual ideas into one fully formed idea Just be you and enjoy the experience and you can’t go wrong! Good luck!
@@James_Hancock13 Thank you! i’ve also been knocked back abit in confidence since i’m doing interviews for the digital editorial portfolio team? i’ve done research and do enjoy this, since i love video creation and editing, but does this department also give you the opportunity to work practically on tv sets, since this is initially what i hoped for, thanks x
If it’s the Production scheme you applied for it will that’s what I did. A lot had changed since I did it but the fundamentals of being on “placement” remains the same I believe
Hi great video! I’m finishing my first year at college this year, but I’ve always wanted to work in tv however, am I too young? As I haven’t completed 2years at college
@@racheldavies1379 if you are 18 on the day of scheme start you can apply check www.bbc.co.uk/careers more information on there they don't look for a lot experience
If you think you’re too young to apply this year my advice would be to make the most of this extra year and go out and film and make as much as you can! Whether you have access to a fancy camera or just an iPhone (which are industry standard btw, bbc news film on them) get as much experience behind you as it will give you something that you can talk about and relate questions too! Youth is in your side make the most of it

Hello. Thank you so much for doing this video. I have been accepted to BBC production apprenticeship assessment centre. I am so worried. What can you advise me. What do they mean by presentation in the form of a pitch and what should I take care of during the group interview?
So a pitch essentially like a sales presentation of an idea. It’s just coming up with an idea that you’re passionate about and selling it to them. Passion is key in my opinion.
@@James_Hancock13 I got an interview! Watching this video makes me all smiley when you say you got the apprenticeship I’m like ahh so happy for you I know it was a while back but I just feel your excitement through the screen ah!
