Jeremy Dale's G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary Comics

- I'm excited to be part of this year's Cobra Convergence. This year's theme is underrated Cobra stuff from G.I. Joe and I discuss the fun comics that Hasbro made in 2008 as part of its 25th anniversary of the 3 3/4 inch action figure line.
The issues were written by Joe stalwart Larry Hama and 6 of the 12 comics were illustrated by Jeremy Dale. I talk about some of Dale's comics history and style, then review the figures that came in the 2-pack with this comic: Destro and an Iron Grenadier.

Jeremy Dale was a sweetheart. When I was first getting started in the tabletop game industry back in late 2001 or early '02, he graciously did a bit of artwork for the first edition of my Cartoon Action Hour roleplaying game at a price that was far less than it was worth.
Bravo on your production of the Weapons Wheelbarrow commercial! It came out amazing! For a second there I thought it was a lost GI Joe animated episode! Keep up the incredible work here at Comic Tropes! Yo Chris!
I've been looking for the Weapons Wheelbarrow for years. They go for such outrageous prices on Ebay. Loved the animation! Nice job.
You NEVER disappoint. 😄
I still love the hammer head! That huge vehicle& amphibious ship has been greatly overlooked
That Commercial was the best!!!!!
Fantastic and hilarious job on that Weapons Wheelbarrow commercial!
Another great episode mate!
Very touching to hear you speak so fondly of your friend.
(And of course the Weapons Wheelbarrow ad is an easy A+)
Great job! That animation was sweet. The whole commercial was very impressive. And with G.I. Joe and comics together it's-a-perfect.Top marks, Chris.
Man I can't stop binge watching these episodes.......
......help me!
I recently found you and I am so happy I did! Keep up the great work!
I love you.....
I honestly thought you added some original animated bits with existing footage from the Dic era, CC looked spot on. That's a compliment that your work totally fooled so many of us.
I've followed Jeremy Dale's art since I ran into it on penciljack's message boards.
It's cool seeing his work getting reviewed.
I'll stay with the Vintage GI Joes
that commercial was A.W.E.S.O.M.E......for a second there I REALLY thought it was a lost commercial. great job! RIP MR.DALE.
Love all of your vids keep it up and I love your intro.
Nice job
I have a few of the original GI Joe comics. I'm proud that I have kept them in good condition all these years
That ending really hit
One my first GI Joe action figures was the classic Destro
I remember issue number 2 of GI Joe, there was an introduction of a fantastic bad ass by the name of Quinn, who played the issues main antagonist, he was fantastic, but never appeared again, loved the comics more than the show, AWESOME CHANNEL Thanks
This is an old video I know, but I just want to point out that this comic takes place before ARAH issue #87, when the fake Cobra Commander assaulted Destro's castle and they were both wearing these uniforms.
R.i.p. Jeremy Dale.
Here comes Destro with more gun.
That commercial was awesome, including the audio! If someone published a TP of all those pack-in comics, I would definitely buy it. But there's probably a rights issue preventing it.
My favorite issue - Volume 1 # 86, Not Fade Away. The reveal of who the older officer really was brought a tear to my eye.
BTW - Larry Hama made some appearances on SNL in some supporting roles, usually with Mary Gross (sister of Family Ties' Dad Michael)
This was great and I'm glad I found you through HCC!!
Your channel is awesome and G I Joe is underrated
I'd definitely buy the wheelbarrow!
Thanks for doing this video~- I really enjoyed it! I have some of those comics & wish they would be reprinted as I am something of a GI Joe completist. Would've been cool to have an omnibus of them or some kind of mail away offer to get just the comics.
Just to let you know, the little red gun goes to the iron Grenadier.
Hello I’m ShabooRu.. I’m friends with HCC788 ( he kindly did a guest spot on my upcoming vid and I was also in CobraConvergence) ..,I’ve been doing IDW GIJOE Comic Reviews... I’m not as good as you guys but I’m still learning .. I wanted to say hello and introduce myself... I think your channel is amazing
Destros v1 look is iconic but v2 was perfect. Soft goods done right
But the silver mask was a family heirloom!
Those are sweet figures.
I LOVED GI JOE!!!!
but as I got older, I got more intersected in things like girls and fireworks. And I became a pyro in high school... so I combined my love of the Joes and fireworks and had a massive war where the Cobra tank caught on fire after it was hit by a missle. It was a messy battle, but in the end, YO JOE! won!!! 🙂
Any ideas where I can find a copy of skyward omnibus?
good video hilarious
Chuck Dixon's Joe comics are also awesome.
YO JOE
I am the first to go here after he brought up the beginning in the live stream?
What's the joke where you pass items above the screen all about? I've seen it in a few videos now and still don't get it, I'm a bit slow...
He’s playing both dudes in a split screen... he has to pass it offscreen to pass it to his myself in the other frame.
Comic tropes!!!!!!
Sorry but I’m going to have to be Nerdy Comic Book Guy here. There isn’t a continuity problem here - this issue takes place just prior to #87 of the original Marvel run when Destro wore his Iron Grenadier outfit, Fred VII is pretending to be Cobra Commander in the Battle Armor outfit and Sneak Peek was alive as he didn’t (seemingly) die until #113. Sorry!
That's true that it could be slotted in there, but Cobra Commander's dialog feels like Cobra Commander and not Fred pretending to be Cobra Commander. Also, Baroness was at Fred's side for pretty much his whole time. Still, your idea could fit.
ComicTropes There's no "could" involved - the setup of Lord Malaprop's caravan park and the Joes' covert surveillance (including Sneak-Peek) occurs in #87, along with the big battle that didn't occur in this story.
Spot on. I have the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow comic in this run, and it slots into the continuity of #21'Silent Interlude'. I'm guessing the whole release was written as 'between the panels' stories (something Marvel UK had to do all the time!).
roguishpaladin thanks for the back-up 👍
Huw Morgan yep, that was the whole thing of that batch of comics - that they were between the panels or between issues of the classic series. Loved those things!
Started collecting 2 years ago. Now my wallet can't handle these ebay prices.
I found this 2-pack in a vintage toy store, new, for $20. Felt like a fair price to me.
Why did you stop numbering the comic tropes episodes?
It made new viewers feel like they had missed something. But I don't really have any ongoing skits or anything so I wanted it to be clear that people could jump into whatever topic they wanted. All the episodes are put into playlists so that you can be sure you've seen them all.
That makes sense
Sometimes, chris just wants to let you know he thinks gi joe is attractive
Larry Hama has a horrible writing style. He doesn't draft or plan; he just writes as he goes, one page at a time. He doesn't know what will happen on page 16 until he finishes page 15.
And yet his stories never cease to amaze. But to each their own.
