  • Milkweeds are the food of choice for monarch butterflies, and the best milkweeds for them are native varieties. California is home to a variety of milkweeds, like showy milkweed (Asclepias speciosa), narrow leaf milkweed (Asclepias fascicularis), and more! Find out how you can grow them to support monarchs at all stages of life!

I live currently in central California as a child i lived in the Bay Area , I loved watching them , I decided to try and plant milkweed , what other native plants grow in central California that they would like . I have heard two different ideas on the non native milkweed , I already have two of those plants I hate to rip them up, in the spring I was planning on starting . seeds . I need to watch this again and take notes

Thank you for the great presentations and discussion about milkweeds and monarch butterflies.
Do you have any suggestions on how we keep the monarch caterpillars protected from the birds?
    Thank you.
