You can Sellotape the eye to the Quill & also "Catch In" the start of the whipping thread. It'll be fine, as the Float will be painted/doped/varnished etc.
I used to put a small piece of bronze bar in the base for counter weight...you could get it from model shops it was a good diameter for most float adapters. Nice vlog clive👍
I use good quality cotton sewing thread instead of “nylon whipping”. I prefer more wraps of thinner material, and a material which will “soak” up epoxy throughout the wraps. Something that nylon wrapping doesn’t do. I use this method for floats, rod eyes, and even rod repair.
Nice one clive keep them coming very instructive vlogs mate be interesting if you can find a venue near you and demonstrate the use of these great floats and the correct shotting for them
Hi, just found you...er just started again after 50 years...ha I remember tank aerials and porcupine quills...OMG Just wanted to say...Hi...But also to say high science low tech...
He's made the float upside down! That not how we made um in the 50s, I find it difficult to get quills these days, but you can get porcupine quills on ebay dead cheap , clean um up, paint um and there you have it an excellent float for about 40 pence, and I use um for all my still water fishing , carp on a small quill , single no.4 shot, 5lb line ... great fun. And you're not loosing £2.50 if you get snapped.
Dave... Sometimes in Lidl, they have very fine tipped paint marker pens, silver and white stand out well and they're cheap, I use them at work. may be good for this purpose too. cheers :-)
this video is one of the most charming I've ever watched and I feel like I just finished hearing a story from my grandfather

I steam them straight and epoxy a small swivel as an eye
Hi Clive
Could you use them in fast flowing rivers like the Severn or the Trent
Hi Simon Normally on slow moving waters
Goose feathers are fantastic, be Carefull if stripping by hand you can damage the feather
Doesn’t the paint and varnish add some weight to these sensitive floats and affect the rating?
Hi Brian You must take that into account when Making these type of floats
Your accent sounds like mine :) I am guessing Cardiff or South Wales area? I'm in Barry. Cool video thanks :)
What make of pen did you use Clive to write the shotting capacity on the float
A Pilot marker pen Dave
