    Again, after seeing your review I searched and search all over the internet for the best price. I found a Black Gyrfalcon at DVOR for $130.00 (Sept 2017 prices are still averaging $210.00) and immediately bought it. Thanks again for an awesome review.

    I LOVE the idea of the removeable pouch at the bottom!
    I'd probably take that off and use it with the waist belt, but turn it around so that the pouch would be in front and you can access it with the pack still on. Kind of like a tactical/hiking fanny pack.
    I'd use the leftover room and the straps on the pack to hold a tarp or sleeping bag/MMSS.

      Yes, I have found that out. This is a BAD PR move on Maxpedition's part. For this reason, I'm now looking at Eberlestock. Specifically, I'm considering the Halftrack. I actually TOLD Maxpedition this-they have not responded in any way, shape or form. Again, BAD PR move, Maxpedition!

    The GyrFalcon would be an excellent mid-size pack, in-between my ILBE pack and Condor Medium Assault Pack, Sootch! I was REALLY impressed with how well the pack hugged your torso while you did your woodlands acrobatics. You sold me on the GyrFalcon - and any Maxpedition pack is worth saving for!

      +TheTacticalDefender That was a feature that I liked also. I wanted a pack that would stick to my body in case I have to do some running with it. I didn't want one that bounces too much when running. I ran a half mile with this and it fits great with little movement.

    Hi! Just a little update. I now have a Maxpedition Gyrfalcon Backpack-LOVE IT!!!! I keep it in my Pickup at all times. I have TWO Water filters, TWO Flashlights, a 9 source Fire Kit, Shelter, Food & Cooking setup, some extra clothing, some ham radio gear and it is provisioned for myself for EIGHT DAYS!
    This past week, my truck was unavailable to me due to a weather event, so the wife and I shared HER car for four days. The Gyrfalcon stayed in my truck. Though I had no emergencies happen, I got to thinking: What if something happens and my Gyrfalcon is 20 miles away?! Or, what if some human caused event takes place and Im cutoff from my truck? So, I'm thinking of getting a little Falcon II and setting it up for my basic emergency needs for 2-3 Days just in case. The Gyrfalcon is the Mother Ship & the Falcon II would ALWAYS be with me away from my Truck, regardless of where I am or what I'm doing, and will serve as an EDC "Lifeboat", with duplication of my must-haves to survive. If I still have to book for home on foot, I'll go back to my truck, pull the EDC gear in the Falcon II, transfer it back to the Gyrfalcon, (assuming I can get to it-if not, I'm still provisioned for the minimum 3 days) and off for home I'll go.

    Looks like a great bag! But a think it has three major problems
    1. It is relatively a small backpack I think a person should be looking for at least a 50 to 60 litter bag
    2. It is heavy I would want my bag to weight less than three pounds
    3. With all the zipper and compartments i think it would be hard to keep everything dry.
    From everything i know about a backpack you need to be able to hold enough volume to keep most of your stuff inside without having to attach it to the outside. You also want your bag to be as waterproof as possible and make it as easy as possible to add extra layers of waterproofing such as a pack liner. Keeping things dry will save your life. The pack weighs 4.35lbs that may not sound like a lot but ounces = pounds and pounds = pain
    I think a better option might be something like the Osprey Exos 58 Pack

    • @patswift8356
      @patswift8356 8 років тому

      The osprey Exos has more problems with durability cause it is used it doesn't sit in the back of someones closet waiting for SHTF. The Osprey Exos is frequently used to hike the Appalachian Trail Maxpedition is never used cause it weights to much and is to small. If i am going to carry extra weight i want that weight to be food not 2 lbs of extra molly attachment straps

    • @patswift8356
      @patswift8356 8 років тому

      I don't think you get what i am saying that Maxpedition is a small bag 36 liters is small. I want room for a sleeping bag tent sleeping pad extra clothing 3 days of food and room for extra food. I don't want a bag that is completely full with just the minimal gear included i want extra room.
      That bag is also heavy for its size it is almost 5 lbs I also question how water proof that bag is. Even that best bags are not waterproof. it is all the extra compartments and molly straps that would make it hard to add additional layers of water proofing. I also think that the ultra tactical looking bag makes you a target.
      Many of the Osprey backpacks have over 2000 lollygagging miles of use. My Osprey has over 3000 miles on it. I would say that makes it durable. At best i would say the Maxpidition is un-tested zippers break and are hard to repair
      Oh BTW my BOB is the Kelty Redwing 50 and it sits packed in the back of my closet ready to go. I have an EDC bag or get home bag that i take everywhere

    I have this backpack in wolf gray I love it. I just took it on a 25 mile hike last Saturday. Its decently comfortable for hard use gear. Its not very big, smaller than I thought it was when I bought it. With the pack being divided into so many compartments for better organization, it makes the individual spaces smaller. I added two Janus pouches to the waist strap area and they work great. I added the single sheath to the shoulder strap for quick access to my knife and I added the triad pouch to the center of the bag for more outside organization. I am still trying to figure out if I can use this for an overnight. There is little room for something like a sleeping bag or sleep sack. The main compartment really is shallow, IMO :). Overall, I love this pack. I use it as my all day in the woods pack and I use the pygmy falcon as my daily EDC that I take to work.

    • @davisfamily3723
      @davisfamily3723 8 років тому

      +Davis Family oh, and I am an over packer so my pack was 53 pounds. I guess the size of the pack actually keeps me under control. As with all maxpeditin gear, I would wish for more internal packets on open areas, but still love them enough to stick with the brand.

    Hey Sooch. You said that the water bladder compartment is in a zippered compartment within the main pocket. This is the same pocket where you said the card was (this is the internal frame sheet with the aluminum stay). Are you sure about the intended location of a water bladder?
    The industry standard (for as long as internal framed backpacks have been around) is that the sleeve outside of this zippered compartment is where a water bladder goes. You see this in pretty much every backpack with an internal frame and water bladder sleeve.

  • @Eric_Schon
    @Eric_Schon 8 років тому

    The backpack seems like a good addition to what ever gear your planning on taking with you when you bug out. However, I do have some questions.
    The first question is, how do you keep your gear from moving around? For example, if you're carrying an ar15, or a large ak. The way you carry it on your side, like you showed us in this video, seems very uncomfortable, because you always have to keep your hand on it, from moving around. I suppose you could always carry a pouch on your right side of the belt, to rest the hand and the rifle on it, but, do you usually tuck it in somewhere?
    Another question would be, what kind of clothes would you take with you for a bug out situation, if you needed to stay in the wild for an extended period of time. Would you wear your plate carrier or keep it in your backpack? Do you recommend a gas mask of some sort?
    If the situation goes to the point where a firefight is imminent or atleast foreseeable, would you still recommend this backpack (I imagine a smaller backpack, like the falcon would be alot more comfortable and would stick out less) and what gear would you recommend?
    If I would plan to bug out, I'd make sure I could carry all of my primary gear on me, but what would you take and keep in your truck?

    Hey Sootch, awesome video. While I know you were just making an intro to your video, but as I watched, I noticed you made a lot of foot print. What I mean by this, that you were walking and making a lot of sign. Practice walking slick (with no gear) and recognize how your walking. Try to walk with care to not leave obvious sign. Be cognizant on what your stepping on, what your brushing up against or what your grabbing. As you practice your walking, put more and more gear on yourself. Before long, you'll be more difficult to track

    Hi Sootch, I've been waiting for this review, thanks. You seemed to have missed a pocket though, I was looking for a get home/bug out bag, could you please do a video with the bag fully stocked? I live in South Africa and work 96km (59.6 miles)(2 hours with good traffic
    )from home, I have struggled a few times to get home due to riots and unfortunately we don't have forests to bug out to! I just want to get a setup for the day that I won't be able to get home for days!

    Please do a follow up. I'm a few $ away from purchasing this bag and if love to see how it's held up and how you feel it's aged.

      Ahh yes! I wanna 'years later' follow up vid as well!
      Bought mine from this very review, 2 years ago...and to be honest, its still like new! I've been beating the crap out of this pack just to 'break it in'!!! Awesome for bug out, or camping, or for a get home (I'm always reconfiguring it). The zippers even, do indeed, get better over time! For the most part, its a huge, indestructable, tank of a backpack, and Worth every penny. Definately!!

    Looks like you could put a full gun in that main compartment! maybe a broken down AR, an SBR, or even a takedown 10/22! That'd be quiet convenient :)

    Excellent sir. Looking to buy this eventually and start prep work. Best review I've seen on the pack without people getting out and showing their gear rather than the bag. I was particularly fond on the 3 until I saw it's big gryfalcon brother! Haven't had a single doubt or bad feeling about this choice and I'm hoping to get into serious prepping. Would very much also appreciate the matter if this discount code is still available? Not at all an issue if it is not. Also happy 4th brother from across the pond 🇬🇧 bless you and loved ones.

      Hey, were you able to fit a sleeping bag in the main compartment? How much space should I be expecting for those bulkier items?
