I love Merle Haggard. Listening to his music over the past 35 years has brought me thousands of hours of pure listening pleasure. In my opinion Merle is the greatest country singer song writter of all time, and there have been some greats. I wish Merle Haggard years of good health. May God take a liking to you Merle. You have many fans who love you and wish you the best... PS, this is one of my favorite Hag songs ever.
I've listened to this song 3 times in a row tonight. If you're a man who has ever lost a love you have to be able to relate to this song. You sit with your buddys in the bar while they tell you you're better off without her but you just can't get your head around it all. And the line about the "woman who just came in" is so true. This my favorite Merle song even if he didn't write it.
I was a longtime country music deejay (23+ years) and Merle IS the real deal. So much of today's country music scene is about pretty faces. This guy was the ultimate!
Well damn close there are a few more equally as good Merle, he is one of the few left him and Willie, its really amazing how long these guys are hanging in,back in the day the concert life was a hard gig travel was mostly by bus,the parting those guys did was unbelivable,if a tour date was 4 months long it was pretty much party party party thats a hard act to follow but they survived,im george and waylon those two were hard core and they lasted!!!! God i would have loved to be a fly on the wall back then touring with those guys!!!!!
+intimidator6969 Hey, your comment brought me back to listen to this great song. So thanks. No, Merle is the best country singer and songwriter I have heard and will ever hear... in my book. Love George and Waylon too! Wish I had seen Waylon in concert. It would be hard to live a life like they did and not turn to vices. If you like Waylon check out Sturgill Simpson. He has a little of Waylon's style and a ton of his own. Take care
Seen Waylon & Willie way back in Vancouver great show, our beer garden rules were a little restrictive back then they wouldn't start playing till the stadium relaxed the rules a bit!!!!!! Great show and NO ISSUES!!!!
That's your opinion!!!! Merle is the one voice that can top all the other voices in country music.....You must be a young one....of course there are others that have beautiful voices, but Merle can be one of the best. I love me some Marty Robbins and yes I do think Conway is awesome but when you listen to Merle, it is COUNTRY without a doubt.
Get a life....I am from the 60's and Personally Elvis was the best...I don't have to argue with people looking for an argument. I love the Beatles, John Denver, Elton John, James Taylor, Conway and Loretta, Willie Nelson, Boston, Pink Floyd, Buddy Holly, Johnny Paycheck, the Temptations, and I could go on and on....I have an 8-track collection beyond belief so I do think I have a GOOD grasp of music....Oh and let's not forget the gospel music my momma played on Sunday mornings... and if for one second you think I like what music has become, think again. I am entitled to state my opinion and you need to find someone else to argue with. When I become an encyclopedia, then I will state fact...MY OPINION It is people like you that make me wish I would have never said a word, BUT THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY and I can say what I choose...GET A LIFE ON ANOTHER PAGE!!!!
I was born in 1968...I was raised on ALL types of music. I love gospel, classical, instrumental, pop, rock and roll, country, opera, etc. The list above was just a small group of what I love. You don't love anything. You are just trying to make yourself big only you are like a man I know..."A person with a little person complex; otherwise you would have moved on already...You are just toooo sad...You are a lonely person who just wants to be right. Go find someone else to argue with cause you don't have the education or gumption to argue with me. You need a life. I was taught by my mother to not always call people what they are and I am restraining myself to not call you the thing YOU TRULY are. MOVE ON AND DO NOT RESPOND...YOU HAVE TAKEN SOMETHING THAT WAS MY OPINION AND CONSTRUED IT TO SOMETHING DISRESPECTFUL. Music is what makes my life fun and keeps me from calling people what they really are...I am listening to Conway now as I type and he is making me remember that lonely people need help...Let me go help someone WHO REALLY NEEDS IT!!! I used not one curse word and I still made you look small
My husband says..."GET A LIFE:..my hubby says you must have no one else to listen to you... Hope you find someone soon so you can leave us music listeners alone!!!!!
...this is one of my very favorite songs of all time. Incredible writing. Merle's vocals and phrasing are extraordinary. Singers this good only come around once in a lifetime. Merle Haggard is an American Icon. I'm also impressed that this live rendition is even better than the studio version. Unbelievable Merle! You Are A Treasure....
If anybodys gonna fill their shoes, we won't hear about it on the radio. There are some great traditional country singers still out there though. Maybe not famous, but good. For example, I met and heard this old boy singing in a small club in Nashville just the other day. I thought he was right up there: ua-cam.com/video/oDgiphiSH7k/v-deo.html
No one can compare to the talent of Haggard...loved his music since I was just a kid...he always has been the consummate performer, carrying a terrific band that icludes in this video the talented Scott Joss on fiddle and vocal harmonies...Thanks for sharing this great video!
They are pretty much gone. The CMA Awards need to be changed to "Pop Country Awards," And reserve the CMA to real country. Sadly, it would only be a 1/2 hour show. There is only a handful left that do it right.
I think he's up there jamming with the other greats that passed before him, all unique, all loved, Cash, Waylon, George, Tammy, June, etc. What a party they must be having, welcolming Merle into Heaven.
One of the all time greatest composers and singers. Once Merle sings a song - he "Owns" it by putting his unique style and vocals forever burned into your memory. The lines on his face show the miles he has traveled and from the looks of it not all of them were paved.
I met a wonderful man in Brainerd over Labor day weekend and played this song to his (Which both of us in our 20s were the only ones who knew this song) and than the end of the weekend came and my fear over took the best of me and now I know that was a BIG mistake. SO I sit drinking with my country heroes and remembering the wonderful weekend.
Merle Haggard is one of those singers that sound better as they get older. If you know what I mean. I'm not saying that he didn't sound great when he was younger but once he got older he developed the tone that he needed for his songs to sound perfect. All Respect to Merle Haggard.
Dylan Murry, i totally agree with you. He just gets more amazing as he gets older. At first (When he was younger) We were amazed, then he gets older and your BLOWN AWAY
seriously all u haters....close your eyes and just listen to his VOICE!! if he were on the VOICE today...do you not truely believe all 4 chairs WOULDNT turn around???
MERLE HAGGARD - "MISERY & GIN" Listening to this song I just forget to breathe. How can that be? I don't even drink...But, wow, what a VOICE! NO COPYRIGHTS INFRINGEMENT INTENDED.
I was so glad that I lived in the U.S. at the time the Bulls were at their best. Jordan was a dream to watch, with Scotty, Bill & Dennis & co;. Also I caught up with a lot of c.w. music that you don't get here in the U.K. Happy days. Jordon even managed to get my wife to watch basketball! Then she started to get in to ice hockey.
This is real "country music" not the crap they play on today's fraudulent country radio! Rip Merle! Today's country artist's couldn't carry your guitar case>
Mr Merle Haggard, Will be missed by a lot of people throuout the Universe, With his particular way of singing Country Music, sending my condoeleunces to his family. From Brittany here in FranceP. Duffy
PATRICK DUFFY You are sooo right. I listen to all of his music! I also love ALL of his gospel songs. And, he is the only one I love. God, he can sing like no can. 😢❤️
my fav Hag song is Looking for a place to fall apart. That song reminds me of a lost love. It is one of his best. If he ever come to my are Birmingham alabama, I will definitely be there to see him
There was this one and another that was recorded at Billy Bobs a few years earlier. That one was CD only, as far as I know and I don’t know that this one had a CD.
Merle has so many, but out of all of-em this is one of is my favorites. i deeply thank you for uploading and sharing to us music lovers. take care my friend... COA ...
And I am again mixing misery and gin sitting with all my friends and talking to myself..... I look like I'm having a good time, but any fool can sure tell........... I love that part!
The singers coming out of nashville today, never lived a life required, to write such music as this. Singing about tractors and bubblegum just don't cut it these days. There are one of a kind, from the heart, gen-u-wine, originals trying to make it, but the music industry wont pick em up and promote them. Everybody today is an instant star, and a LEGEND by their second album. We live in a jay-Z and Beyonce world now, so they tell me. I live in Texas, I guess I would'nt know.
@Drydoc2 That's the finest commentary I've ever heard about the state of the current music situation. I grew up with Redd Volkaert and still get to play with him once a year or so and I have to agree that it's about the most under-rated country song of all time.
50 years old drinking a few beers and listining to Merle. His voice got better with age. Who agrees?
The older the better
Without doubt his voice was fantastic
I love Merle Haggard. Listening to his music over the past 35 years has brought me thousands of hours of pure listening pleasure. In my opinion Merle is the greatest country singer song writter of all time, and there have been some greats. I wish Merle Haggard years of good health.

Some singers have the ability to reach in and grab and twist your soul. Singers like Merle.
I've listened to this song 3 times in a row tonight. If you're a man who has ever lost a love you have to be able to relate to this song. I miss the days when country music was country music.
Ain't comin' back. Thankfully we have technology to save the past!
I was a longtime country music deejay (23+ years) and Merle IS the real deal. So much of today's country music scene is about pretty faces. This guy was the ultimate!
Merle always told it like it was. What an amazing story his life was. All the hardships. He did pretty damn good though. Love ya Buddie.
Merle is the best country singer ever

Merle, Waylon,Jones, and Willie. All I need.
I think Waylon, Johnny Cash, George Jones, and Hank Williams are pretty darn good, too.
If this song came out for the first time today country stations would never play it....how sad
I love the older country music singers and there is NO ONE AND I MEAN NO ONE could every come close to Merle's awesome voice!!!!
I am guessing you are a troll....You just want someone to argue with. Go somewhere else
Get a life....I am from the 60's and Personally Elvis was the best...I don't have to argue with people looking for an argument. Listening to him for years... One of the best voices ever!
Got to see Mr Merle here in Chapel Hill NC. I have seen over 100 shows in my life. Merle's show rivals Robert Plant and Fleetwood Mac....
...this is one of my very favorite songs of all time. Incredible writing. Merle's vocals and phrasing are extraordinary. Singers this good only come around once in a lifetime. He truly was one of the very few that could speak to a person's heart. No more heart aches Merle.
I’ve loved this song since 1980. Brilliant!
Like George said who's gonna fill their shoes... We are losing so many of the traditional true country legends he will be missed.
If anybodys gonna fill their shoes, we won't hear about it on the radio. There are some great traditional country singers still out there though. Maybe not famous, but good. . Merle Haggard, George Jones, and Luciano Pavarotti will tear your heart from your chest, and you love the pain.
Merle Haggard has not aged in his singing , rather he is still very young.
The definition of country music. Thank you Merle!
They are pretty much gone. The CMA Awards need to be changed to "Pop Country Awards," And reserve the CMA to real country. Sadly, it would only be a 1/2 hour show. There is only a handful left that do it right.
Merle has to be the greatest sing that ever lived. I saw hi concert the August before he died at the Minnesota state fair
I think he's up there jamming with the other greats that passed before him, all unique, all loved, Cash, Waylon, George, Tammy, June, etc. What a party they must be having, welcolming Merle into Heaven.

You may be gone..... but your memory will live forever! God be your music now!
One of the all time greatest composers and singers. Once Merle sings a song - he "Owns" it by putting his unique style and vocals forever burned into your memory. The lines on his face show the miles he has traveled and from the looks of it not all of them were paved.
