Jan and Dean were a very underrated surfing song duo. They were around before The beach Boys appearing on "American Bandstand" in 1959 singing "Baby Talk". They made several smash hits between 1963 and 1967.
Ah, the memories! I was a junior in high school when this first aired (Side B of Deadman's Curve) and remember cruising in my old beater car with my buddies. Miss those days and the "surf sound" in music!

Used to cruise around Blackheath in a hotrod with Sheridan and Big Nick.Great times we used to listen to this and summer means fun in the rod. What times. When we saw a bunch of girls we used to howl out the window like a pack of wolf's. Bit like Wolkman Jack sound. Still has it's old interior bit like stepping back in time.Got to put the yellow flames back on the car and paint it red as it was then.
Jan and Dean were always my favorite singing group growing up. I liked others but they were my favorite. The Beach Boys came in a very close 2nd place.
With 16 Top 40 hits (6 of which were in ther Top 10) and over 20 million record sales, Jan & Dean have had more billboard chart success than half of the already inducted HOF acts. As for influence, it's hard to compete against the first ever made film portaying the lives of any rock stars, "Deadman's Curve" was a rating hit that literally lauched the comeback for Jan & Dean. And then there was the shear dedication of Jan Berry fighting back against all the odds to not only walk and talk again, but to perform music once more for another 25+ years. And yet with all of this, they continue to get overlooked by this so called Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.....a real shame.
I love classic rock and all, but there is nothing like the classic doo-wop sound! If it weren’t for my grandpa I would have never made my own surfing music and jamming on the guitar while tailgating with my wagon. I probably wouldn’t have my love for hot rods and collection of moving violations!

If no one's mentioned it yet, this song had to be re-done from its original, "Gonna Hustle You" version because, "Little girl if you only knew, when summer comes gonna hustle you" was considered too risque.
This is a good stereo mix, as opposed to some of the others on here...there is one where the track is on one side and the vocals kind on the other..fascinating for study, but not very good for total listening...
If they capture your youth and you feel they should be in the Hall of Fame, then so be it. But please stop over inflating their vocal ability. I've heard enough of their music to know they're flat at times. And people keep mentioning these great harmonies. There are two guys singing, and all the rest of the harmonies are backup singers.
