OMG this is with out question mind blowingly brilliant. Jan was and still is a supremly brilliant guitar player who just seems to make each note he plays come alive and sing off the fret borad. Jan is outstanding and I hope he will do a Northen England tour soon, cause I would love to see him live in Liverpool.
Jan's work; solo and with Focus, is beyond words. His playing is so expressive. He plays with great phrasing and tone. So many think by memorizing Slonimsky's SCALES AND MELODIC PATTERNS, makes them "profound." Jan transcends genres, styles and allows the music to flow through him. True, also, of Tjiis van Leer. Focus is one of the best bands of ANY time. Love the way they were able to create music of simplicity(ie-profound), melody, counterpoint, improvisation and humor. Unique in ANY time....still sounds fresh today; 40+ years later.
This one particular track opened wide my brain to a sound I had yet never experienced. The way he riffs over the lush strings and pointed percussion is sheer genius. The counterpoint of the smooth bass ties together the elements as Jan simply LIVES on his instrument's fretboard! Wow - and wow again. This is pure adrenilen, pure bliss! Thank you, thank you for posting!!! ~Jon
I'd like to think I'm a fairly well-traveled musician and writer. But I've never heard anything like this anywhere else. I'm dying to find out what's in his head when he writes something like this...
Just on a par? That's an insult to Jan Akkerman, whose guitar playing is not only technically fantastic, but his songs and playing have an emotional quality that make those other guys' music look pretty boring.

Bought this second hand lp yesterday!!!
I had this on LP back in 1977. This is among the greatest Jazz-Rock Fusion masterpieces of that era. It easily stands the test of time!
I still got mine...
