  • Just a quick video for those techy type that are curious on how the old 2nd generation VHS mechanisms loaded and unloaded the tape cassette.
Considering how mechanically complex VCRs were I am surprised that thy actually worked through all the punishment people threw at them. This one is a Mitshbishi HSU65, considered to be one of the best machines ever built from a performance, and build quality perspective This one was made in Dec 1991. 22 years old, and the only thing that has gone wrong is a few capacitors in the power supply. Good old linear power supply, built like a tank. My professional Panasonic died years ago, and these Mitsubishis just keep on going.

A lot of ordinary folk found they had to regularly clean the machines heads or couldn't afford to keep putting the thing in for service/repairs, my kids were watching videos for many hours every single week for instance, we had about four hundred mixed altogether when we got rid.

I have never used a d vhs never mind worked on one. When I went to digital and hd it was all hard drive and bluray based. I had abandoned tape except hdv as an acquisition format only.
