  • Fun day on one of my favourite rivers in the North Island of New Zealand. In this video I break down my approach as I fish a pocket water run for big rainbow trout.

Can I ask what length of leader/tippet you have out of the tip of the rod ie how far are you casting? Thanks mate, good channel

@@ruha6455 It depends how far away I am from where I think the fish are/how close can I get to the fish. Sometimes I fish very close and other times I cast >10m or more. Usually I fish with some fly line out the rod tip so maybe casts of around 5m. Fishing to far away can lead to loss of control so I try and move to the right spot to cast.

👌👋👍👌👋👍 Perfect Ollie... Just the question. Weight of rod? Which rod do You use? Why I am asking. For me personaly the rod seems a bit softer then I am normaly using in the same places for the same style of fishing, same fish... Probably it looks like that for me because GoPro video, I am not sure... But the bend of rod seems for me quite soft . I am using quite strong and fast action rods weight 5, 10ft... But it is not #5 as the #5 from all brands of course. This is the reason why I am asking...
    Cheers Martin

Hi Martin, I am using in these rivers 11' 3 or later in the season for bigger ones I make the whole set up a bit more strong (leader, tippet, hooks etc) and use 11' 4wt. The rod is quite strong but maybe 5wt is better for the biggest ones :)
