- Join us on an incredible journey as the Lockheed C-121A Constellation 'Bataan' embarks towards EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023. Experience an exclusive, behind-the-scenes perspective, captured by four strategically placed cameras, documenting every twist and challenge. Pilot Steve Hinton describes it as “The big airplanes aren’t responsive like fighters, but the ‘Bataan’ has hydraulic boosted controls. Even so, it’s pretty heavy, and for such a large aircraft, the cockpit is very small because of its aerodynamic shape,” Hinton said.
"I was really enamored with this airplane, primarily due to its significant historical background and well-maintained state. It's fascinating to consider its evolution, starting from its initial design and manufacturing, to its present-day preserved status said pilot/owner, Rod Lewis. - Наука та технологія
Hands down the single most beautiful and sexy looking airplane ever to take to the sky.
Its a vintage Kelly Johnson design, alright.
The most beautiful airplane ever made.
These guys are a national treasure. Thank you!
Stunning. I was an AE (electrician) and worked on these in the Navy.
My first airplane flight was a TWA Constellation in 1950, In 1967 I was a Radial engine mechanic for the USAF working on 4 engine radials, R4360's, R3350's R2800's and any airplane with a round engine. I still think the C-121 is the most beautiful airplane of all, love the sound of a radial engine, smoke and oil and a lot of work to keep them flying.
Absolutley magnificent, thank you Mr Lewis and crew🤣
Beautiful doesn't describe how superific she is. It's magniferous
Magnificent and beautiful::::
Got to take a tour on board an Eastern Airlines Connie in Miami, Fla. when I was a boy. Always remembered that grade school field trip.
Awesome! I've always thought they look goofy on the ground but beautiful in the air.
Awesome piece of machinery.
Flying a Conny just as if he is driving a car on the parking lot. Makes it look so simple. Amazing!!
Love this video, I'm a big fan of Steve Hinton and POF. I finally got to see her fly at Reno Air Races and then the 2023 California Capital Airshow. Looking forward to seeing more of Connie at future airshows.
Glad to see another Connie restored and flying again. I seen another one in Europe ina UA-cam video. I flew for the first time in a Connie in early 70s from the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico. I'll put in my bucket list to visit her when I return to Texas.
There's been a Connie flying in Australia for at least the last 20 years probably 30.
@@chrisreynolds7164 Glad to hear that. Thank you.
My mother used to put me on a Constellation at LaGuardia, for a flight down to D.C. to visit my cousins. I got to my aunt's Maryland house before my mother made it back to her Manhattan apartment. Man, what an airplane. Fast, comfortable, beautiful.
What a beautiful bird.
With 3000 hours in the DC 6 I can I imagine what flying that airplane is like.
Great job!
Wow. A.Beautiful aircraft.
The sexiest aircraft ever….🧐👍👍💪….!
I am mistaken when I say that this is the Citroen DS 19 of the sky? I think it will always amaze everyone.
WOW! Amazing!
What a beautiful piece of history to preserve! Thank you for all your dedication to that restoration. I was a very lucky young 6 yr old to experience a Connie flight from Guam to Alameda Naval Air back in the 50's when my Father was in fact the flight engineer on the Mars Martin seaplane Hawaii. Yes, I experience a flight in that one but don't remember it being only 18 months old.
Great!!!
wonderful !!!
What a great restoration, inside and out.
My first flight was aboard a Constellation. I was two years old. I remember that flight.
Spectacular!
What an incredibly GORGEOUS beautiful plane. I would love to see it in person and up close.
Awesome job looks brand new Outstanding crew
What a beautiful aircraft!
What a beautiful plane!
Parabéns à equipe que restaurou essa verdadeira obra de arte da aviação! Meu primeiro vôo foi num Connie em 1961 , inesquecível!!
Stunning!
I can't wait to see this at Sun-N-Fun this year!
I did not know about this plane. It is great to see another Connie back in the air. I love this things. Like many folks, I think this is the prettiest airplane ever made. Great video.
Felicitations! Magnifique!👍👍👍👍👍👍
That plane is the sleekest most beautiful plane I ever flew on. Back when American Air line still flew.
To quote a pilot that flew these, now long passed, “ “The best three-engine airplane I ever flew!”
I Think General MacArthur would Love It ! Very Nice !😊
The most beautiful airliner ever designed. I flew from Sydney to San Francisco in a Qantas example in 1957 with stops in Fiji and Hawaii. It took three days. 5 Star hotels overnight included. Silver service all the way. There was a years long waiting list. The competition was the PAA Boeing Stratocruiser that was noisy, slower and crude by comparison as it was a converted B29 bomber. Then the 707 arrived and changed everything. Qantas still has a Constellation in flying condition to this day. It does regular excursions.
Please bring it to the UK
It looks better than new!
I agree from germany, !Gänsehaut!
Amazing job, congratulations!
Now the next challenge, in order to preserve not only this magnificent plane and its legacy, is to develop, instruct, instill the attitudes and aptitudes of the new generation.
And they should be now in their mid twenties.
Time to pass the baton!
Fly it to St. Petersburg, Fl so I can see it!! Wanna fly in it too! ❤
Me too.....would love to see it.....and fly it!
I live near St. Pete (Winter time)
I have just under 2,000 hours of (Navy) pilot time in the Connie.
Is that Troutdale airport? I worked there in the early 1980's at the FBO, AAR Western Skyways.
wow what a beautiful job you guys did on her she sparkles
I think charleston AFB still has it's connie on display at the back gate to the base
Back in the 60s C121 Connie’s flew picket duty with their special radar attachment 100 miles off NE coast for 8 hours each tour 24 hrs a day.
@rodbutler4054 - If the ones off of the NE coast were USAF, they were the EC-121 Warning Star models... if US Navy the designation was WV-1 Warning Star. In Vietnam, there were several based out of Ubon Royal Thai AFB in Thailand, for a variety of missions: airborne radar support (for friendlies); radar jamming (enemy); airborne communications relay center for strike aircraft. They had large crews = 20-31 officers and enlisted combined.
Wow Congratulations what a beautiful job everyone did. Are you going to add an Observer seat to the flight deck? Best of luck to everyone.
Anyone know did those propellers? Arnt they supposed to be Curtiss electric propellers?
I'm sure that when the General few on it was !st Class+. I caught a hop on the General of the 3rd Air Force'S VC-118 out of London and it was over the top, especially for a SP4. R.H.I.P.
Any plans to recreate the interior?
The second most beautiful aircraft ever made (after my beloved B747)
What was the take off and landing weight and fuel on board ? Take care 👍👌
This whole project would have not been possible if Ed Maloney had not seen the future of the aircraft and Rod Lewis had not financed the most recent restoration of the aircraft. Thanks to all who were part of this great project.
What a beauty. They must have bought polish by the barrel.
This gives me the fizzz
My family departed cmh to lax in the 50tys I beleaguered e it was a 10 hour flight. They served box lunch and dinner fried chicken Had an in flight movie 8 Mm but didn’t work wellMy brother and I were dressed as cowboy going west got to visit the cockpit and set in the co piglet seat
did this start in CA
Southern Arizona.
Looked like Lassen with Shasta in the distance early on in the video. Not sure.
Needs a polish. Joking. Me being silly. Great video.✅
The pride of this crew and stunning airframe is evident..Kudos gentleman..where can I donate to keep this bird flying?
OMG she is beautiful. 1:59
The aircraft where controls are still moved with bicycle chains.
Macarthur named it in honor of those who suffered in the bataan philippines death march.
Wait! Rod Lewis said the Connie is out of Arizona. Is THIS Connie 'Columbine II'? If it is, I have photos of her leaving Marana. OK. So it isn't.
I think this one is MacArthur’s Bataan
When men were men and the constellation was THE airplane.
Betcha that rehab was minimum 30 million.
46,000.00 for fuel and oil? How did the airlines make any money if a round trip to Oshkosh costs that much?
Cuz 46000 in today's dollars was under 4 grand in the 50s
Still at today’s prices and the amount of passengers that plane holds (40) I don’t think a ticket would cost 1500.00.
Maybe Steve was tired from the long flight = he misspoke when he decribes it's speed (just after the 20:10 time code mark) as "250 mph" which is far less than this aerodynamically-designed 13,000 horsepower beauty is capable of = The Lockheed Constellation's cruising speed is 340 mph and maximum speed is 377 mph at 24,000 foot altitude.
an old pilots 😅😅😅😅
