I'm about to get this device in the mail tomorrow. I've already got a microSD card on standby just waiting to put the new firmware on it. I'm glad you can make most of these games work well. thanks for these vids
Nice video. Quite impressive to see PSP games run well on the H. I can see how many would like to play PSP games on the H if it's their only device, but man, i hate stretching out the screen to fill up the 4:3 aspect ratio and if i keep the 16:9, the screen's too tiny for my eyes to appreciate. The PSP's my favorite handheld console, and buying a retroid pocket 3+ was the best thing i did for my PSP gaming, and it is glorious. I still have the RG35XX H as my daily driver, but when i am mainly playing a PSP title or two, i bring along the RP3+ with me instead.
Yeah totally agree. I mainly play psp games on my vita. Since I love to test & tweak & I reviewed this handheld I thought why not make a complete set of videos related to the H starting from review, all the way to cfw & game testing. I still want to make a couple of more videos of different emulators. Let’s see how that goes. But this is a tiny powerhouse for the price point.
The RP3+ is what turned me on to PSP. At 3x upscaling most games look, and still run amazing. When adding some PSP games to the RG35XX H in a pinch, try 0.85 aspect in the PPSSPP settings for a good compromise with the 4:3 screen.
Kinda random but do you think the Ben 10 protector of the earth (psp version) could run at least in 30 fps on the rg35xxh? I remember playing as a child on my psp and I would like to remember the good old days
I don’t see a reason why. You should give it a try. You can try out with settings I’ve shown in the video. Either the Gow settings or the settings for megamanX.
@@DrBrute7 I actually used the setting in your video, and I must say, than you! I def made my experience smother. I was thinking about playing coop that game with 2 controllers but I discovered that psp can’t play multiplayer in the same device, kinda sad.
You also forgot to check the part where the frame drops to 16fps when I am on foot(right after the tunnel) If you’re expecting constant fps on a budget console with limited hardware capability that relies on opengl then it’s better you stay away from these devices. And the cut was at 9:06 because of dead fillers while recording.Obviously I had to cut that part off (Lol ridiculous)
@@DrBrute7 I tell u that because I already bought it and tested in in GTA and I hate that moment when frames drop near the airport :) Actually with some settings it could performs very good and I love it. Even playing Motorstorm on stable 20 fps feels very good and smooth

Just change the emulator it is using from game to game. I believe there’s a menu for that. Sure that may be annoying but some emulators just work better for other games and there’s not much else we can do about that.
Idk what testing and tweaking you've done on batocera but with last V40 bato as latest Knulli as well, I'm getting the same performance in god of war like you show here. Stock has 30fps cheat enabled and frameskip 1, nothing magical that let's this game play better. Enable the same cheat and settings and you'll get the same performance. Your universal settings don't make a difference in that game either, btw.
Well I didn’t say that these settings that I am using would be magical. I demonstrated the games on the stock firmware and did some settings that reduced the stutter & there were differences in performance as opposed to how it was when it came out of the box. If you didn’t find any improvements then you didn’t but it did for me & that’s what I have shown here. And as for Batocera, you’re right about the 30fps cheat with god of war. I only figured it out way after making this & was about to mention it after testing the latest Knulli build of Batocera. But still I prefer Stock OS over the batocerav40 in terms of overall experience. If you have different opinions then that’s totally fine.
What about Batocera performance on everything except psp? I am mostly interested in playing n64, dreamcast, ps1 and below. Is Batocera performance good for those consoles?
Ps1 & below you shouldn’t have issues. As for dreamcast just wait a couple of hours, you’ll get to see it for yourself. N64, am going to start testing them.
My problem is I cannot enable retro achievements in ppsspp on 35xxh because when I plan to input username the keyboard does not show up so I cannot type any letter. Anybody know how to fix this?
I have a working PSP but I thought maybe if the H can handle PSP emulation like the actual PSP then it'll be my main. But I guess PSP will be on PSP and for rest I'll stick to Miyoo mini plus.
You don’t have to worry about emulation settings upto PS1. They run very well without tweaks. You can change the aspect ratio to your liking but then again, the rg35xxH’s screen is very small.
If only the low end anbernics is powered by snapdragons chipsets not unisocs, then emulations is smooth as hell, the cheapest Snapdragon for emulation is Snapdragon 680, that chipset alone can run most ps2 titles and can run 2x or 3x resolution on ppsspp, I don't know why Anbernic is doing this
Snapdragons are available from Ayn for $200 to $500. Phones with a super smooth snapdragon 8 gen 2 cost $450 minimum. So the Oden 2 base model is a smokin deal for the processing power you describe. The Rg35XX H/+ is not in that league, but costs just $50 to play up through PS1 and NDS smoothly, plus select games from N64, Dreamcast and PSP. So there's a price point for everyone. Anbernic probably does this because they stand to make 100x the profits on the RG35XX series as Ayn will make selling snapdragon devices in a decade.
I accidentally selected vulkan in the PPSSPP settings. Now none of my psp roms are playing. I am using Batocera lite v40. How do i access the ppsspp settings to switch it back to opengl?
This device isn't well suited for PSP due to its 4:3 screen and underpowered SoC for the task. You'll need a Unisoc T610 or better SoC, and a 16:9 544p or better screen, to experience PSP in all its modern glory. That said, 30% of the PSP library will average 25/50 fps or better using auto-frameskip=1 on this device. So that's as smooth as any PAL rom from that era, assuming ~100% game-speed. Another 30% of the PSP library never drops below 20 fps at 90% game speed. Which is arguably 'playable' without noticeable stutter. The last 40% run poorly (mostly unplayable). I haven't tried all the firmware options for this device, but ArkOS on the R36S just added Standalone_2021 which can lock GOW Chains of Olympus at 20 fps to remove those game-speed inefficiencies (mere 90% at 15 fps becomes 100% speed at 20 fps). And that's on a lowly RK3326. This device is considerably more powerful on the margin with PSP, Dreamcast and N64.
@@wingsfromheaven8788 Yes the screen size is too small to experience psp games despite it’s crisp display of colours. The psp emulation through the modified stock OS on this device is quite good though. But Gow Ghost of Sparta’s performance despite several attempts(idk if there’s any fps hack) was not favourable. It was running at 50-60% speed or even less with 15-20 fps while chains of Olympus ran at 100% , the performance on Batocerav40 is not good when it comes to psp emulation (pretty sure the os is too beefy for this device) This handheld’s chip is just there to experience a bit of everything but not powerful enough to experience all of it.
@@DrBrute7 Yes, you have great insights into all these handhelds. Nice work! Do you contribute to any of the "compatibility spreadsheets" (Google Sheets) for any of these devices? Those are super valuable for the community, particularly the marginal/ bonus systems on each device.
