I loved TRON: Deadly Discs, AD&D Treasure of Tarmin, SNAFU, Auto Racing, Demon Attack, Night Stalker, Utopia, just about all the sports games, B-17 Bomber, Bomb Squad and TRON: Solar Sailer for the Intellivoice, and the amazing Sea Battle!
I loved TRON: Deadly Discs too. How many hours did I play it? Way too many!!!! There was also a skiing game which I enjoyed a lot. I wish I could remember its name. Great days.
Sea Battle is one of my all time favorite multiplayer games that was ever released on any console. My buddies and I will dig up the Intellivision every few years and have a Sea Battle Tournament. Treasure of Tarmin was probably my favorite single player game.
Yes, finally finally someone that has good taste. I spent more hours playing sea battle and utopia with my brother than any other 2 player games. Treasure of Tarmin is still my most played game on intellevision...
Yes Sea Battle! Salvos!!! My friend and I made a treaty in Utopia just peace no war (of course only preparing for war). He couldn't help but inch his way close and sink my fishing boats, and giggling at the same time, but claimed it was an accident! It was an Act of War! One of the most fun I've had on Intellivision.
Sea Battle is still on my hall of fame list up there with any game for any console. The one drawback is you have to find someone as good as you or nearly as good as you to have fun with it. Rarer and Rarer as time goes by. I played with my neighbor and my dad growing up who were both worthy competition and made the game super fun. I tried to get my oldest son to learn the game as he got into games during the PS1/N64 era and while he did like some intelllivision games from my old collection he just didn't have the patience to learn this one.
1. Tron Deadly Discs 2. Burger Time 3. B-17 Bomber 4. Sea Battle 5. MLB Baseball 6. Armor Battle 7. Advanced Dungeon and Dragons 8. Astrosmash 9. NHL Hockey 10. Horse Racing /mic drop
Intellivision was so important to me as a kid. We had over 70 games for the system and we played the thing to death. We had to get a second unit when the first wore out. What a beautiful thing.
Thunder Castle - a great maze game that has amazing music and multiple layouts. Tower of Doom - an action RPG that started out life as a Dungeons & Dragons game, it'll draw you in. Diner - an exclusive sequel to Burgertime, done in an isometric 3D style, with more and more complex levels. Shark! Shark! - essentially a mobile phone game decades before mobile phones. You start out as a tiny fish and have to eat other fish your own size to grow larger and larger but avoid getting eaten yourself. Hover Force - an overhead shooter, taking place over a city under attack from terrorists assaulting the city with helicopters. You have to shoot them down and put out the fires from their attacks. Beauty & The Beast - a good, solid platformer in the style of Donkey Kong but with better progression, climbing the building section by section. Utopia - one of the earliest "God sims" available, you run one of two islands onscreen and you plant crops, build schools and hospitals, send out fishing ships while avoiding pirates, and so on. Keep the population happy and they won't rebel and you'll build a real civilization. Thin Ice - a game where you ice skate around other penguins to cut open the ice and dunk them in the water, but you have to avoid the really quick seal that's chasing you. Surprisingly good. Stadium Mud Buggies - an isometric perspective game with unusual racing mechanics along with crushing vehicles with your truck. A super rare game, this one's well outside most people's price range but the game did get ported over to the NES as Monster Truck Rally.
These are essential: * Baseball * D&D Cloudy Mountain * Dreadnought Factor * Utopia * B-17 bomber (one of the best games for the system) * Burger Time * Shark Shark * Sea Battle * PGA Golf * Motocross * D&D Treasure of Termin That is all my memory can dig up, but there were several other great titles that I can’t recall at the moment. All great games of that era.
Yes, we're passionate about the Intellivision. I've been playing since 1981, and now I'm an indie developer myself. I understand about the controllers and the higher complexity of games.
When I was a kid my parents gave me the Radio Shack knockoff "Tandyvision" for Christmas one year. One of my favorite games was Utopia, which is probably a very early ancestor of Sim City and Civilization kind of games. Still fun to play today on my flashback console.
Commercial titles to be added are: Night Stalker, Thin Ice, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (both of them), Tower of Doom, Thunder Castle, Dig Dug, The Dreadnaught Factor, White Water, Beauty & The Beast, Atlantis, and Demon Attack. There are a lot of excellent indie titles as well, but you can start with these.
I completely forgot about Tron Deadly Discs - another essential title! If you want to cover titles for add-on peripherals, there's B-17 Bomber for the IntelliVoice, Melody Blaster for the ECS, and World Series Major League Baseball for both.
Imagic, "Microsurgeon." What an amazing title, and yes it requires command of the 12 buttons and learning the manual. But what rich game play! Another fun title is the Intellivoice, "B17 Bomber." It also uses the game pad, but the action keeps you on your toes, especially when there is a "bandit at 9 o'clock."
My alltime favorite is called The Dreadnaught Factor. All other space-shoot games pale in comparison! Love Burger Time & Snafu. Most of those other ones I didn't have as a kid. I've collected them now, but haven't been able to spend time playing. the single player release of Football (was it called Super Pro?) has been one that I bought recently and have loved. It was always frustrating to play the 2-player game by myself. Played the D&D and AD&D a lot as kid. Pulled them up recently but didn't have the patience. lol. Every now and then I can still get one of my kids to play Utopia with me. That's probably my 2nd fav.
Astrosmash. I remember completing all levels and starting over for the 2nd time, but the game was super fast. I had 75 lives left, so I thought I can take a break, get Dad to play it and I'd still be alright. I quickly grabbed a sandwich, and drink. He was struggling, so I finally took over with like less than 20 lives left. By that time, my mojo was gone and I lost. I just couldn't believe he lost 50 or so lives in a matter of 5 minutes lol. It was like dying every 1.6 seconds.
Hockey was the absolute best. High sticking 10 times in a row without penalty then the opponent does it once and goes to the box. The goalie going unconscious was so frustrating and fun. Love it!
Bump and Jump! That's the name of it! I had that song stuck in my head this morning. I don't know why. And I knew it was an intellevision game but I couldn't remember the name. Thank you!
Good list, but I'm going to chime in as I've owned my Intellivsion for over 35 years. 1.Tron Deadly Discs 2. Utopia, 3.Tower of Doom, 4 Diner (sequel to Burger Time) 5.Dracula 6 Space Hawk 7 Football 8 Night Stalker 9 Bomb Squad 10 Space Spartans
I used to watch my dad play Golf on this for hours. My faves were Burgertime and Tron Deadly Discs, but I loved putting in "Space Spartans" just to hear that 80's Robot voice. So ahead of it's time, playing voice audio like that.
The sports games were excellent. Football, baseball, bowling, skiing amongst others. Imagic published terrific games too - Dracula, Demon Attack, Microsurgeon; Ice Trek, etc. And can’t go wrong with Tron Deadly Discs, AD&D, Lock N Chase, Night Stalker, Burgertime... my Dad worked at Mattel HQ and brought home test games before they were released!!
I only got to play intellivision briefly at a babysitters when I was a kid. I played the crap out of PBA Bowling, burger time, shark shark, and beauty and the beast
That's a great list there! Tron Deadly Discs, Snafu, and Burgertime we're my favs. My older sister loved Lock N Chase, my bro loved Advanced Dungeons And Dragons, and my Dad taught us all new ways to cuss while watching him play Night Stalker. Good times!🍻
Great video. The INTV port of Bump n Jump is one of my favorite games, even better than the NES version of the game. Not often you can say that! Auto Racing is also an important game IMO. It was the first time I can recall a racing game that completely let you go off the tracks and drive between houses and through the landscape, even crossing to other tracks! That type of gameplay still lives on today and is very successful in games like Forza Horizon. Don't know of any others that let you do that prior to Auto Racing.
Utopia probably took most of my time. But I also loved football, boxing, Atlantis and Beauty and the Beast. And I also remember liking and finishing Star Strike.
Cool video! Loved Intellivision - my favorites were AD&D, Night Stalker, Tron Deadly Discs, Space Battle, Star Strike, BurgerTime, B-17 Bomber, Bomb Squad and Tron Solar Sailer
I would consider Utopia to be an essential game, as well as anything from Imagic- Microsurgeon was a blast to play, as were the D&D games, which Mattel licensed before the series made it to PC...
Some solid titles here, but I think Atlantis and Bump 'N' Jump are un-missable games on the Intellivision, more so than a few that did make the list. Also Sub Hunt and Sea Battle. And Beauty and the Beast.
This was the system I grew up with. Essentials for me were Triple Action (I remember biplanes and tanks but can't recall the third game on it), Vectron, Choplifter, Night Stalker, Bump n Jump, Tron: Deadly Discs, Sea Battle, Hover Force, and lastly, B17 Bomber and Bomb Squad (Intellivoice Titles). These are the games I spent the majority of my time playing (that you didn't cover in your 10). Thanks for the trip down amnesia lane. ;)
I remember playing Atari back in the day, so i got a Atari flashback and that got the ball rolling, i had to get the Nes classic and the super Nes and then the Genesis, PS-1and Turbo grafx. Now you show me this! I'm now on the hunt. Very well done video by the way!!
Great video Tyler! I mostly agree with this list. Under their Atarisoft label Atari also ported Defender, Centipede, and perhaps others to the IntelliVision. I would have also included a majority of the INTV sports titles with computer AI opponents allowing a single player mode, and Utopia as potentially essential IntelliVision games.
I admire you for giving value to Intellivision. The beauty of the console is games that can't be learned relatively quickly - like Sea Battle, Lock 'N Chase, Utopia, Dungeons and Dragons - Treasure of Tarmin which deviate from arcade games at the time because they took a long time to play. Intellivision was a thinking man's console. Keep up the great videos brother :)
Space Battle was a great strategic/action space game which was originally supposed to be a Battlestar Gallactica licensed game, I believe, which it closely resembles.
Back in the 80's (Yes, I am in my 60's now...) My faves were Baseball, AD&D, Sea Battle, Utopia and, of course, BurgerTime. I had the Intellivoice module, the synthesizer add-on with keyboard. Started with the original module and upgraded to the all-white version. Return to Zork and Civilization put an end to the Intellivision...
Baseball was my favorite. I had some perfect games and could throw people out from anywhere on the field:). Loved utopia, football, hockey, skiing, b17 bomber, sea battle, Astro smash, tennis
I think for its time Baseball was the best Intellivision game made. In my town every group of different neighborhood kids had their best player take on a kid from another neighborhood. All these years later and I still remember battling it out for the bragging rights.
It was nice coming back to watch this video again. Beam Rider has a really nice aesthetic. I really love the scrolling horizontal grid lines. Of all the games in my Intellivision collection Burger Time is the one I keep coming back to, so I was happy to see it listed here.
I was always an Atari fan and always will be. But the intellivision deserves love to. Generally intellivision versions are superior but, dealing with the controller turns some off. They did make a joystick snap on that makes the controller 10 times better. Almost as good as the Ataris. But its difficult to find those snap on joysticks.
I had the snap-on ones until the clips broke. Then I got ones where you take the controller apart and swap out the discs with joystick handles. Those work better.
Oh how I loved this system. My uncle had one when I was 5 but kids weren't allowed to play it.I still remember the day my dad came home 8 hours late with the Intellivision box in hand. He'd stopped by the local electronics shop radio parts on payday and ended up playing the demo of 'Dungeons and Dragons - The Treasure of Tarmin' for 5 hours. He bought it then and there.Tarmin was I think the World's first 1st person action rpg.I played it and so many others as a kid.Oooooh Nightstalker and Tron - Deadly Discswere other essentials.
To me, there are three games for the Intellivision that have stood the test of time and are still very fun to play to this day even for those of us that have no personal nostalgia with the system: 1. Burger Time 2. River Raid 3. Shark Shark
This is one console that I have absolutely zero experience with. Although I will say Astrosmash does look fun! I always loved Burgertime- such a weird idea but it worked really well. A couple of these were obviously new to me, but I'm glad I played a bunch of these in other formats too :)
Night Stalker, Shark! Shark!, Bump 'N' Jump, Vectron, Thunder Castle, Space Hawk, Space Armada, Star Strike, AD&D Cloudy Mountain and Treasure of Tarmin, and Bomb Squad.
I loved both the 2600 & the intellivision. I remembered thinking once I bought & played the 2600 version, I couldn't wait to see how much BETTER it would be on the intellivision's. The controllers didn't bother me AT ALL, tell you the truth !!
I loved this console ...ASTROSMASH WAS MY FAVORITE.....THE FIRST GAME I GOT WAS SPACE BATTLE ...loved it...lol ...then dungeons and dragons ...skiing .....ect ..The Best memories ever ❤
I loved FrogBog, Astro Smash, Night Stalker, Lock -N- Chase, Burgertime, and Baseball. They were the best!!! I loved Star Strike and Space Hawk. And Las Vegas Poker and Blackjack!! So good!!! To this day!
first video I've seen on this channel. Great production quality but I was surprised none of the sports and betting games were highlighted. I owned an intellivision back in the 80's and didn't play or own any of the games you highlighted. will check out more of your content though. it's obvious you put a lot of thought and effort into making polished content
My brother and I had the Sears version. I remember playing Space Hawk for days on end one summer. I always liked this system better than our Atari VCS.
"What is love." Wasn't this the bery first 16-bit console? I think that's crazy and I often wonder why it didn't power past everything if it's true. Even if its RAM was paltry and very slow having a company like Mattel behind them should have let them go wild. I can imagine making games with extra helper chips that really kicked the tires of that maybe 16-bit hardware.
Newer games utilize something called JLP which allows for: real-time multiply and divide, extra 16-bit RAM, and saving data to EEPROM. I put all those features to use on my final release of FUBAR.
Utopia, Beauty and the Beast, Tron Deadly Disks, Hockey, Lock and Chase, Night Stalker. Dungeons and Dragons. Boxing... There are lots you should try. 👍
We had one growing up, I would include mostly mattel made games only on the intellivision. My favorites were baseball, football, auto racing, basketball, and space armada. Those games were far superior to what Atari had at the time
Tron, Shark Shark, Sea Battle and Football are all essential. Add the talking games - all four were great. I think you've missed some of the 'fun' of the multi-player games - Sea Battle was our group favorite, and the one that started the most fights was Utopia.
My thumbs start to ache whenever I see an Intellivision controller.... but it was great. Best games were: Advanced D&D II : Treasure of Tarmin (A 3D-like game) Bump N Jump Nightstalker B-17 Bomber (with voice mod) Tron Deadly Discs Astrosmash Snafu Frog Bog (think they changed the name later to Frogs N Flies) Two player games: Utopia ! Triple Action (this had a smaller version of Race, Tank Battle, and a Biplane battle) Sea Battle (THE ANCESTOR to World of Warships !!!) Swords and Serpents
Sorry.. but many of the sports games were amazing on this console. I grew up playing them against MYSELF... right hand vs left hand. Tennis, baseball, football... so many great sports games to choose from. Also, Bump n Jump... classic!
I really love Worm Whomper, Go-Sub and Intellivania. I have the TandyVision One Radio Shack Intellivision Clone and also play the ROMS using Berryboot Retro Pi on the Raspberry Pi 4B 8GB in the Vilros keyboard/touchpad hub with an 8bitdo N30 wireless mouse and my Favorite controller. I think it's like a Stealthy Black C64. Keyboard PC'S are back in style in my book. I had to pick up a Raspberry Pi 400 as well. Go-Sub is being offered for free now as a ROM by the developer but Intellivania is like fifteen bucks or so. I may get Gooninuff as well. I missed out on Sydney Hunter.
Burger time was great, there was also a World War II bomber game that one person had to pilot the plane and the other had to run bomb crew. That was fantastic.
I'm mostly shocked that you went with River Raid over Dungeons & Dragons. For multiple players, I still love Auto Racing, Utopia, and MLB. I would say D&D, MOTU, Burgertime, Pitfall, Astrosmash, and MLB are the best.
My favorite was Dungeons and Dragons.....played it for hours! 😁
Absolutely!! Dungeons & Dragons!! So many hours into that game!
Yeah , I remember planning my escape if I opened a chest and a monster came out of it .
That was my brother's favorite. That was a good one.
Them snakes at the end of them tunnels 😂
@@gumbie007 Yes, Treasure of Tarmin.
Great days.

The joystick adds so much.
I had the snap-on ones until the clips broke. Then I got ones where you take the controller apart and swap out the discs with joystick handles. Those work better.
I grew up with this console. I enjoyed the 2 dungeons and dragons games Night Stalker Thunder Castle,, horse racing and football the most.
Space Spartans, Atlantis, Sea Battle, and B-17 Bomber would be on my list.
crying wanting this back in my life...burgertime, utopia, night stalker, poker, bowling, skiing,
Oh how I loved this system.
To me, there are three games for the Intellivision that have stood the test of time and are still very fun to play to this day even for those of us that have no personal nostalgia with the system:
1. Burger Time
2. River Raid
3. Shark Shark
This is one console that I have absolutely zero experience with. Although I will say Astrosmash does look fun! I always loved Burgertime- such a weird idea but it worked really well. A couple of these were obviously new to me, but I'm glad I played a bunch of these in other formats too :)
Auto Racing, Skiing, baseball. basketball were some of my faves.
Night Stalker, Shark! Shark!, Bump 'N' Jump, Vectron, Thunder Castle, Space Hawk, Space Armada, Star Strike, AD&D Cloudy Mountain and Treasure of Tarmin, and Bomb Squad.
You def need to check out "B-17 Bomber", "Star Strike", "Sea Battle", and "Bomb Squad"!
This channel has a pretty good production quality, especially for its size. I've been enjoying your videos a lot.
Thank u so much 4 this content...great channel
I'm from the UK, I used to rent this console from a shop called Radio Rentals !
I remember Astroblast, Night Stalker, Sea Battle, poker, some educational game.
I'm surprised no one mentioned SHARK! SHARK! One of the most unique and original games EVER in that generation...
Tupinik Thanks for watching. Yes, That kinda surprises me too. It just barely didn’t make the cut for this video.
I would have had B-17 Bomber and Dracula in my top 10. Also, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: Tower Of Doom, and Treasure of Tarmin.
I loved both the 2600 & the intellivision.
I remembered thinking once I bought & played the 2600 version, I couldn't wait to see how much BETTER it would be on the intellivision's.
The controllers didn't bother me AT ALL, tell you the truth !!
Right on! I still don't like that controller, but for some games its not deal breaker. The graphics and sound have that much needed upgrade.
I loved this console ...ASTROSMASH WAS MY FAVORITE.....THE FIRST GAME I GOT WAS SPACE BATTLE ...loved it...lol ...then dungeons and dragons ...skiing .....ect ..The Best memories ever ❤
B-17 Bomber was by far my favorite when I was a kid.
Your videos are really great, I watch a lot of retro gaming UA-cam and I really appreciate your passion and knowledge. Thanks for all your work!
You added He-Man...and left off AD&D??
Burger time. The strategy of saving peppers till chef couldn't out run everything was so fun. Took hours
Great video. Shark Shark and Tron Deadly Disc have fond memories for me. And chess too. Snafu a great game!
NightStalker, either of the Tron games, Trucker, Utopia, and Starstrike!
I loved FrogBog, Astro Smash, Night Stalker, Lock -N- Chase, Burgertime, and Baseball. They were the best!!! I loved Star Strike and Space Hawk. And Las Vegas Poker and Blackjack!! So good!!! To this day!
Great video. Yes now that we have seen the best 10 games maybe when you have time we could have a round 2 of 2600 vs ITV.
I really like the "round 2" title! I may use that :)
first video I've seen on this channel.
Some must plays for the Intellivision are Sewer Sam, Thin Ice, Tower of Doom and the most impressive game in the Intellivsion ever, Hover Force.
I put all those features to use on my final release of FUBAR.
baseball - yer out! voice was a big hit in our house
OMG Frog Bog !!! I didnt even know I forgot about that one until now! Great video
Great games list, will have to play these classics again
Beam Rider looks impressive, I really want to play it now.
Sea Battle, Utopia, Microsurgeon, Dungeons & Dragons, and Swords and Serpents!
Get ready for Intellivisions Amico 👍
Utopia, Beauty and the Beast, Tron Deadly Disks, Hockey, Lock and Chase, Night Stalker. Dungeons and Dragons. Boxing... There are lots you should try. 👍
We had one growing up, I would include mostly mattel made games only on the intellivision. My favorites were baseball, football, auto racing, basketball, and space armada. Those games were far superior to what Atari had at the time
Donkey Kong?!?
Are we sure this video wasn't supposed to be uploaded on April 1st?
Love burger time, lock and chase , auto racing , space battle , triple action , still play it
The sports games were good too. Baseball was the best. We had Hockey, Basketball, Boxing, Skiing, Auto racing and horse racing, just to name a few.
Misson X is a good one. Super Pro Basketball, Space Battle and many more.
I bought this console in a plug in version with 60 games . I've got to build my own cards to play.
I have a few Game Cards that came with it .
Best games were:
Advanced D&D II : Treasure of Tarmin (A 3D-like game)
Bump N Jump
Nightstalker
B-17 Bomber (with voice mod)
Tron Deadly Discs
Astrosmash
Snafu
Frog Bog (think they changed the name later to Frogs N Flies)
Two player games:
Utopia !
Triple Action (this had a smaller version of Race, Tank Battle, and a Biplane battle)
Sea Battle (THE ANCESTOR to World of Warships !!!)
Swords and Serpents
Utopia was a game a spent a massive amount of time on, and one of the best games on the system.
Sorry.. but many of the sports games were amazing on this console.
I’d suggest Space Battle, NightStalker, Demon Attack, Ice Trek, and Atlantis.
Burger time was great, there was also a World War II bomber game that one person had to pilot the plane and the other had to run bomb crew. That was fantastic.
B-17 Bomber
Dungeons and Dragons, Night Stalker, Pitfall, Astrosmash, Frogger, Burgertime, Tron Deadly Discs, Lock N Chase, Snafu, and Utopia
Beauty and the Beast and NIGHT STALKER. Baseball, Blackjack, Sewer Sam, Worm Whomper
Snafu was my all time favorite for the intellivision. Kind of surprised Night Stalker didn't make this list though.
I'm mostly shocked that you went with River Raid over Dungeons & Dragons. For multiple players, I still love Auto Racing, Utopia, and MLB. I would say D&D, MOTU, Burgertime, Pitfall, Astrosmash, and MLB are the best.
Oh man, Snafu. I played that so much I heard the music in my sleep. Snafu and Pitfall were my faves, then Pinball.
Yep, Snafu would’ve been a favorite of mine back in the day too. 👍 Pinball would’ve blown my mind.
My favorite was Dungeons and Dragons ....I think that was the name . The boxing was ok too
