Thanks for sharing. To me it's a little mind boggling you living in Vietnam. I was stationed there during the Tea Offensive back in 1968. Your experiences in Vietnam are so radically different than mine and my fellow US service men and women. You're a very talented photographer, keep up the great work!
Thanks Justin. Love your approach. Down to earth, honest, modesty balanced with the confidence one needs to take on such a project. Delivering what the client needs is so essential, not only because you take pride in doing that but also because happy customers are returning customers and we all gotta eat.
I hear all the time that shoots like this are basically a series of troubleshooting projects. Sounds like you had some real rough spots, but wow. You sure came through! Great stuff, Justin. Oddly, I also liked hearing about how you delivered the product, including that THEY have a retoucher, etc. I somehow thought you'd be on the hook all the way through to print, so to speak. So that was new for me. Great story and wonderful shots!
Thanks for taking the time to comment Chris. Yeah , every shoot is different regarding retouching. For shoots that go though my production company Mott Visuals we handle everything but sometimes I work independently and some large companies have their own and then other times I work through other production companies who have their own retouching.
@@AskMOTT - ahhh. I see now. So a lot of times, you DO handle it that way, but sometimes, they have their own. Got it. (No reply necessary, but I love how responsive you are.)
Great, great insights. Thank you, Justin, for sharing so much knowledge in these videos. So many people are obsessed with gear (I've been there myself!), but this is the content we should focus more on. Learn from professional photographers experiences, pay attention to tips and tricks (so many in this video alone), and then put all of that into practice. Thanks again!
Thanks , yeah I get why people do gear stuff as every gear episode you do gets exponentially higher views so I can see the temptation to go gear heavy on episodes but these episodes are where my passion is at.
Hey Justin. Great video. Looks like you had a lot of fun working this assignment, which is always a good thing. Quick question: do you have an assistant that travels with you for a commercial assignment like this one, or do you hire someone local? Thanks!
Absolutely love this segment, and I think the length is just right. Coming from an AI background, two possibilities I can think of to preserve the creative process when given AI generated guidance: 1) Ask why this image was selected, and what elements are important 2) Ask for the text prompt they used to generate the image. You will often see in a prompt some specific details vs. generic descriptions that could be insightful.
Thanks Glenn, it was so odd getting that first brief on my first shoot for them as it was so real. Your advice is good actually, when I have a better relationship with them I will ask them for the prompts.
Great stuff man. I always love these and thanks for sharing. There were really some great shots in there, so they certainly hired the best man for the job. Good to see you still rocking the older SL-S2. Many folk are chopping over to the S3 and the 3s, but it's not always necessary. I'm still shooting all my paid work with two older Nikon Z's, haven't found it necessary to spend countless thousands just to get slightly better AFC. That's about all I'd be getting. Probably similar for you.
I was definitely tempted by the SL3 Philip but really the SL2-S is just so solid and I love the build and I've never had any complaints from clients. Maybe one day if I feel I can use Leica for all of my commercial work I'll upgrade but I'm in no rush :).
Hi Justin! Thank you for sharing all this wonderful insightful information on how you conduct your professional photo shoots. Question, Besides the photo studio lights that you had to use for those specific foam shots, did you use any additional continuous lights or strobes throughout the facility? For example, like the shots of the CEO in the foam?
@ Thank you for your reply, Justin! If I may ask, was that a continuous type or strobe light. I really love the over color grading that you chose. It's very clean and authentic to the environment you are in. (Truth be told, love all your work! ) Ive been using a Nanlite Forza 500B continuous LED spotlight with a modifier at some of my commercial shoots. Love those continuous lights, giving you real time effects. In addition, thanks for being so real in all your videos. Keep up the great work, Justin!
Really enjoying this series. Picked up an SL2-s w/ 50mm summicron. Love it. Renting the 24-90 for a week and it’s an absolute beast in terms of size/weight. But, damn. The quality of the photos 🤌😘 How do you think the Leica 24-70 stacks up against it ?

@@ChrisBrogan My pleasure, yeah it really depends on the shoot dynamics.
Amazing work as usual, Justin. 👏🏿
I appreciate that, thank you.

Yes , for most of the portraits I used 500w light and a large light dome.

It's so heavy Chris, but that extra range up to 90mm comes in handy more than you might think, at least for me it does.
Super good stuff!
If you're ever in Shanghai/China you got a free beer if you shoot me a DM. :)
Thanks for the offer :)
